  • Here is my first video to begin 2024! In the cold and chilly hills of the famous Severn Valley Railway holding it's first ever Winter Steam Gala event, with the majority of it's own fleet out in action! Some noteworthy marks from this event include the first major outing for the LMS Stanier Mogul 2968, returning from an overhaul that lasted over 10 years, and will be properly repainted into LMS lining and renumbered 13268 in the next few months. Fellow LMS Locomotive, Ivatt Class 4 43106 "The Flying Pig" made it's last appearance in service in this event at the end of it's Boiler Ticket and will go into storage after with it's future plans currently unknown, while SR West Country Class 34027 Taw Valley, currently in Wartime Black and SR number 21C127 will go for an intermediate overhaul this year with hope to return to service later in 2024 or 2025.

Magnificent Barney I was here on the 6th of January and I too caught the last run for taw valley and the flying pig before they are withdrawn
And also caught the stanier mogul of 2968 first time seeing that loco in its 1990s livery

I was there on the 7th, and I took 43106's last train up to Bridgnorth. The Flying Pig went out in style (loved that they actually put a flying pig (albeit a toy pig with wings attatched) on the bufferbeam)! I also got a great shot of it going up Eardington earlier in the day. It's a shame that future plans for her are unknown, 1), she's unique in that she's the only one of her class in preservation and 2) she's one of the few engines who've been at the railway since the very beginning.
2968 has a nice whistle, quite ghostly.
Erlestoke Manor was in fine form, but this year as with last she'll be spending the summer away from the SVR.
I was on the footbridge at Highley when 7714 left for Bewdley and had asked the guy next to me if he reckoned it was going to do the two-tone whistle as it passed the Engine House. Called it!

Oh yeah, 43106 has had a really great run especially considering it was at SVR pretty much from the beginning of both their preservation lives. Hopefully they take good care of her in retirement too.
