I love the scene in the limo.
Lex: “You can’t even handle a mere mortal”
Joker: “there’s nothing mere about that mortal”.
When he calls him Mr Clean tho 😂
Usually Lex is the aggressive one when they talk, not when Lex said that. Joker got triggered
Batman IS a mere mortal. People never take the opportunity to kill him when they have it! Even Luthor's dumb henchwench could have easily killed him but she did the cliche "sneak up behind him and put the muzzle of a gun just barely touching the back of his head" routine instead, giving him the ability to disarm her.

Yeah he also did the voice for luke skywalker fun fact
@Jigsaw Joker lmfao
His career is so overshadowed by Luke Skywalker that people don't see him for what a great actor he actually is.
Not going to lie, his design before he becomes Joker is still golden. A mafia fox.
He was charismatic and evil before a specific incident in a chemical factory happened.
I love that the Joker was some unnamed scumbag in this universe and not a sympathetic guy like in Killing Joke.
@yurifairy2969 why do you like that?
He reminds me of hazama rom blazblue
@@javontetreault6713 Because adding that kind of pathos to Joker ruins the point of his character, which is to be an irredeemable psychopath, the opposite of Batman
Return of the Joker is by far the best version, best performance. Unhindered by the FCC sensors we got full throttle psycho Joker.
That speech he made in THE KILLING JOKE was pretty damned good tho. And in this clip, watching Mark Hamill slip so effortlessly into the character (facial expressions and all!) is almost terrifying. czcams.com/video/r9Jz4xCONAE/video.html
1:29 Cold hearted hitman Joker is even creepier than usual Joker.
Bro I see you everywhere on these
I don't think Joker ever went insane, I think it was all an act. He was always a scheming psychopath, the acid bath just gave him an excuse to reinvent himself. The clown gimmick & claims of insanity served to make him less predictable, his image more grandiose, & to land him in Arkham instead of a proper prison. That's why Ace's power was able to work on him: He was just lying, like he always does. I could swear I saw a quote confirming this, but I've been unable to find it again.
Napier was already a cold-blooded, murderous, career criminal. That kind of mentality deems one "not normal." The chemical bath not only changed his appearance but pushed his already sadistic mind over the edge. What was already there was freed with a colorful streak of theatrical unpredictability added.
Aces power work because having the mental equivalent of a piano dropped on you will work no matter who you are
You're probably thinking of a line from Grant Morrison's "Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth", where the Joker's proper diagnosis is described as "super-sanity", a heightened form of sanity that allows him to understand things in ways no one else can (thus appearing insane to everyone else).
Depends on what you define as “insane”. He pretty much ticks all the boxes for narcissistic personality disorder.
@@pn2294 And he’s also a sociopath.
The evolution of the DC animated universe is insane for everyone. From Batman to Batman beyond everything and everyone has such subtle details that come together into major events
I'm always amazed at the Joker's dental insurance. All those times he gets his face smashed in by Batman and still has an incredible set of pearly whites.
Jack napier was perfectly designed and fitted the now joker perfectly. For me the definitive origin of him, how cold he was before and honestly feel seeing more of him would of been terrifying.
The greatest Villain of all time and the definitive version of the Joker
A villain so popular he’s evolved beyond just a comic book character and has various versions of his character in different forms of media
18:23 I think we all agree that Batman WAS going to kill the Joker. This is not ur usual Batman that just leaves you unconscious and several injuries, but the fact that he literally threw him a knife just says it all. One of the most tragic moments of the Batman mythology and the DCAU
No, I don't agree. He had Joker on the ropes, but he hesitated: Like Joker said, he didn't have it in him, even as mad as he was. Only Tim would've killed the Joker, & that's partly because he wasn't in a healthy state of mind at the time.
@@TheLithp he literally said I'll break you in two and before even that he threw him a knife at the head but dodged it. Joker just advantaged of Batman hearing his response, got him distracted. The way Batman mistreated Joker's body like a toy when he already exploded after him laughing about his parents trauma just tells you everything, the guy was already sick. It doesnt really surprises me tbh, since in A Death In The Family (comic) event, Bruce also went (very directly said by him) for the kill, but the Joker disappeared and Bruce was left unsatisfied of not have done something to him. Well returning to the DCAU and leaving the trivia, that night Batman cut every friend connection he had, even quit the Justice League, thats why for me this is the most important event of the Timmverse, its tragic and sad because of the consequences of it.
Why doesn't Bats just put him in a medically induced coma in the Batcave? It's not murder and it humanely removes him as a threat to society.
Time for a truce. Batman wanted to kill the Joker and was going to, but then hesitated when Joker reminded him of his vow to never kill.
8:52 - Now this line hits me more than ever since Mr. Conroy isn't here.
I love this Joker, he will be timeless for his sincere and sadistic personality. It's so current even though it's from the 90s and early 21st century. Great role from Mark Hamill.
This was truly DCEU before live action DCEU.
My favorite design for Joker from DCAU was Justice League one.
I never knew that in the canon version Tim shot Joker. Honestly, the censored version where he's electrocuted to death seems more brutal than just shooting him.
“That’s not funny…”
But the death by the hands of his own mad science experiment created the one death Joker feared most -- an ignominious, normal, predictable death.
Fun fact in a deleted scene in batman beyond return of the joker Bruce was going to visit the asylum and Terry follows him. Terry sees Bruce run in panic and Terry soon sees the jokers dead body hanging on the roof with a sign on his chest saying "I know" it was very creepy. If u don't believe me search up "batman beyond return of the joker deleted scene" but it's not animated it's just sketch art of what would've happened in that scene.
I just watched it, and it’s unfortunate it didn’t make an uncut animated scene, so all we got was the comic, but I think that would have been crazy to see on the big screen or whatever you watch on.. but at the same time it was a “kid show” so it probably would have been to graphic for kids, s*** even adults 2. I’m 23 years old and still watch this stuff today these shows/movies don’t even compare to anything out today. We are blessed
Great chronologically Joker's journey in the DCU! Kudos to Mark Hamill, Paul Dini, and Bruce Timm on documenting and creating a version of the Joker that has lasted for 30 years!
honestly i think i like the censored version of jokers death more than the one where he is shot.
the pain of being shot was probably pretty bad for joker and it was pretty awesome to see him get a small taste of his own medicine but i feel that dying by electrocution was more fitting given he gave both harley and tim electro shock therapy.. Probably others too. I think it really sells him getting a taste of his own medicine.
The key part of his uncensored death is "that's not funny." As full of bluster as he is, he's an egomaniac who cannot stand when someone gets one up on him. That's why, unlike most versions of the Joker, this one actually wants to know Batman's identity & finish him off for good. It's also important that Tim is broken enough to resort to intentionally shooting someone but still sane enough to know to protect Bruce from the Joker. The censored death has its own merits, but it's not as strong for the character arcs.
@@TheLithp Indeed. The effect is not the same with Tim just pushing him out of the way and Joker slipping up on his own. Having to face that he no choice but to shoot him allows for the trauma of it all to sink in better.
@@TheLithp yeah and the censored one has the comedic effect of being essentially slipping on a banana peel
also remwmber in an episode of batman beyond, when terry has to stpp the jokerz from a rampage with a military grade vehicle, we see a scene where they tske a new member into some tunnels. there is a body there. with his outfit and the shot flag there
I don't. I hate it. It's so dumb and lame.
The Return Of The Joker version STILL haunts me up to this day. These facial animations are horrifying! Pure nightmare fuel! Mark Hamill gave his greatest performance in that movie, in my opinion.
THE MASK OF THE PHANTASM is easily the saddest story I know of. May Bruce Thomas Wayne's heart rest in peace. Andrea went mad...
I wonder how Joker survived that movie. I figure Phantasm either couldn’t kill him, or Joker outsmarted her.
@@biguy617 BATMAN is how. In this case too..
@@StevenMichaelCunningham Well no because the movie ended with her taking Joker into the darkness. Joker has appeared later in the DCAU so we know he survived.
@biguy617 according to a comic tie-in to the Animated Series, The Joker survived because Andrea hesitated and they were subsequently separated by the ongoing explosions
@@batarang87 ok but what the laughing fish episode? He jumps into the water where the creatures of the deep eat him. Harley says”Pudding “Batman: at the probably is.
The justice league design is truly terrifying
Not featured in this video, but I loved Joker’s look of shock when he says, “Service with a smile!”, throws one of his bladed Joker cards and Batman catches it harmlessly.
Joker need all of this as one full movie
I always rememered Joker just casually walking out the house right past Andrea with a smile right after murdering her father like
*yup I killed him...and what are you gonna do about it?*
That was the most chilling thing I'd seen from this universe. Joker was gangsta lol
And he just picks up an apple she dropped out of her shopping bag and eats it.
His 'joy' buzzer is chilling. 🌉
Love them all. These Batman series are still a MASTERPIECE!!! I’m still sad that they won’t make more of these serie. 😢
Love how he didn’t talk before he became Joker
Mark Hamill is the best Joker
what i like about the transformation of tim into joker as that for a moment you can see the original joker before he went insane and fell into the acid pit
4:55 that “regular” guy was having a bad day (just like joker) and decided to cuss Joker out on the freeway and fucked around and found out 🤣
I love your videos. You’re always so thorough in your detailed analysis.
I like how despite the different generations and looks Joker recieved his story remains connected
Can you believe that his real name is Jack Oswald White? That was shocking. And I almost believed that Joker and Penguin are related.
Arkham games also mentioned as his oldest aliases Jack White. Arkham game series is so well done that it could almost be considered as part of DCAU.
Joker’s name being Jack Oswald White is true in an alternate universe where Bruce was killed instead of his parents, and in this universe, Martha became the Joker while Jack has a normal life. Of course, considering he was abused by his father, and he tended to lash out at his former wife a lot(as revealed in Three Jokers), it’s possible the Jack from the alternate universe didn’t have a father, and was raised by his mother. So, it’s possible Joker’s father had the last name Napier, and the main Joker’s father stayed with Joker’s mother instead of leaving her, which would possibly make Joker’s name Jack Oswald Napier in the main universe.
Now we know he’s related to (or is an AU version of) the White Stripes jk
There's a nose thing in that family
That's not his real name. The fools at DC will never officially give him one. In whatever story he has one, that's it for that narrative. It's readers/viewers choice at this point. Though he'll always be Jack Napier to me. A credible origin that doesn't have him being a washed-up loser wearing a red bucket over a tux.
Been waiting on this 🔥🙏, great video
Appreciate it
No problem 💯
@@Renash30videos I think you made an error Batman mask of the Phantasm was released in 1993 not 1983 although the facts about the joker are true since the evidence is clear that the Joker's real name is Jack Napier
4:53 oh yeah, poor Charlie. That episode was honestly terrifying because it really shows what could possibly happen to anyone in real life. Obviously the Joker isn’t a real person, but there are legitimate crazy people out there. Charlie was just a regular guy who had a really bad day and mouthed off to a guy who cut him off which is something he would never usually do. However unfortunately the person he mouthed off to was Joker. Joker decided to stalk and torment him for 2 years just for that and called Charlie his little “hobby” and frequently threatened his family. It got so bad Charlie even changed his name and moved himself and his family out of Gotham, but Joker never lost tabs on him and always knew where he was. The episode really hit the nail on the head with always being polite to strangers no matter what because you never know what the other person is capable of. I’m just glad Charlie eventually got out of Joker’s hold and got a happy ending.
How about an evolution of either Red Hood or The Court of Owls in movies/TV shows/video games
I love this type of videos. And the Joker of the DCAU is always going to be the best for me and the most funny but also one of the most cruel and scary versions of the clown prince of crime
This was dope 💪🏾
Please do an evolution of either Black Adam, Hawkman, Doctor Fate, or The Justice Society of America if one of them wins the next poll
I always knew his real name was Jack Napier in the dc animated universe
17:43 I said on another video that torturing and brainwashing Tim was a dark "pay attention to me" from Joker to Batman since Bruce had been fighting stronger, more powerful and dangerous threats than him with the Justice League like aliens and supernatural beings and Joker wanted Batman's focus back on him.
DCAU and Arkham Joker are arguably one of the best Jokers.
It's the same Joker, just in a slightly different setting. Arkham Joker isn't based on the DCAU, it's literally DCAU Joker placed into a video game. That's why I love him so much.
I feel like they never intended to stretch the timeline out that much lmao. I always thought it were only like 5 years since the characters never seem to age
Joker's eulogy goes to show you how much he loves Batman despite all the pain he's inflicted on the Dark Knight
He didn't love him, not really. He just really enjoyed the "game" they had going. If he didn't have Batman then he truly had nothing
Its insane how season 3 new adventure of Batman & Robin look ike shit season 1 & 2 animation was a masterpiece !!!
Thanks for this evolution on Batman’s greatest villain and one of the greatest villains in comic book history.
Nice Video
very interesting origin story.I like how he always had a role in crime prior to becoming the Joker
Awesome 👏
This Joker is similar to Batman Confidential and 89 Joker where even before falling into the acid he was a psycho killer, he was basically a Joker lite before he actually became Joker unlike the typical “one bad day” backstory we see nowadays.
Is it just me or is Joker's nose smaller without the white face paint? It's like they realized how much it stood out and shortened it just for that
My favorite design of DCAU Joker is always the one in Static Shock, Justice League, and Batman Beyond. Seriously wished Joker appeared in more episodes of Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.
That episode tied Static to the Batfamily, and he's come back into the scene as a member of the Batfamily several times since. Batman saw Static in action and immediately discarded his usual efforts to keep young heroes at arm's length and began not just mentoring him but literally RELYING on him, a privilege he normally reserves for veteran heroes.\
It's a bit like what he sees in the Flash, a guy who can fight the darkness, see the world at its worse, and still figure out how to smike. Batsy's origin dosn't allow for that and he's a bit jealous I think. In a very real sense he trusts Flash and Virgil more than he trusts himself.
Cool video

This is great, but you skipped one thing: while Jason Todd/Red Hood never appears in movies and films, there was still a DCAU comic about their version of Red Hood. It’s similar to the Arkham version, as in he never died, but Joker kidnapped him and beat him with a crowbar.
The Arkham joker is literally the DCAU Joker. There's no viable distinction.
@@hagamapama I was talking about the DCAU Red Hood, who is a completely different character than his Arkham counterpart.
I think you forgot that episode where Nightwing explains why he stopped being Robin. That had Joker in it.
He also forgot the DCAU Red Hood Comics (yes, Jason Todd exists in the DCAU)
@@jonathansayah9506 Oh it is? I’ve only red a summary, but still, the Joker was still involved.
@@MicahIsBatman2 I think they were going for what was on tv.
@@jonathansayah9506 Likely, but he does a lot of important stuff in the extra books, like the time he kidnapped c
Commissioner Gordon and beat him with a bat on live TV, then kidnapping Batman, which culminates in Batman faking out his identity with Harvey Dent, which was one of the first few steps that sent Two-Face into motion if I remember correctly. There’s also of course, Jason Todd, and probably more.
@@MicahIsBatman2 Yes. But for all we know, this guy didn’t read any of those books
You should include the Batman the animated continue comic series because it is based on after the events of Batman new animated series
Incredible
There's two deaths to the Joker in Batman Beyond. He gets shot by Tim, or he gets electrocuted.
I have Static Shock to thank for my interest in Batman and DC in general.
Damn good timeline, its better than the 3 jokers story arc in the comics. Good work
I like how it took the joker almost no effort to beat superman
What I like is you can see a tonal shift in Joker in Justice League. Before that Joker was more than happy to cause chaos and play with his favorite toy, Batman, even saying there's a routine to their game; he fucks shit up and Batman stops him and they do it all again. However, come Justice League it almost feels like the Joker is getting tired of the same joke, especially when it always has the same punchline. He's actually fine with Lex killing Batman, something he would never have let anyone but himself do before. Also during Batman Beyond he even says outright in spite of torturing Tim Drake and pushing Bruce to his limit, that Joker knows there's nothing he can do to push Bruce over the edge. He's done with the old joke and ready to move on, even if he never could get Bruce to break his moral code, almost like that in and of itself is an even better joke.
As an alien anime overlord once said in an abridged series: "I just love how easy it is to get away with this shit with you people. I want to transform, you just sit there and let me. I want to blow the planet up, you just sit there and let me. I want reach 100% power, and you just sit right there and let me!"
Hiya!!Lve it~unreal .🔥
Kevin Conroy will be dearly missed
17:10 that facial transition and "whaat?" XD
11:26 “and needing money to pay the IRS” when the hell did joker start paying taxes
I don’t know why people these days declare “Joker should NOT have an origin” when him being a former gangster that went insane seems perfectly fine to me
Same it’s very fitting to his character, makes since that he was always a criminal instead of some failed comedian.
The Napier origin is the most credible. But comic purists seem to prefer the ridiculous Red Hood origin and all its derivatives.
The name Jack Napier originated in the 1989 Tim Burton Batman film. It was the name ofJack Nicholson's character before he fell into the vat of chemicals and was hideously scarred.
Fun Fact: In one of the universes, Joe Chill (Batman’s parents’ killers) is actually the Joker.
Which universe is that? What story and when?
@@ronald3419 Batman 89 I mean he's not Joe Chill he's still Jack Napier but he did Kill Bruce's parents
Joker timeline so good i saw it twice
One of my all time favorite Jokers, along with Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Joaquin Phoenix, Kevin Michael Richardson and more!
When I was a kid I always wondered why there was no origin story for the Joker, the only one I knew was from the Tim Burton movie, I don’t think I ever saw or heard about « Mask of the Phantasm » until your video!
Jack turns into the joker that’s my favorite joker
I’ve always felt like Jokers first BTAS appearance in that Christmas tree escape was already a well established villain. Multiple years into it, rather than year one.
Not only that but Joker's Favor can't be year one cause it took place over the span of 2 years.
I would love to see more of batman the animated series version of joker when he was an unnamed thug. His origin is unique and mysterious compared to his modern incarnations where they make him a sympathetic guy who just had a bad day.
Actually, the Supmeran crossover happens during the events of TNBA, since it's stated he needs money, like he does in TNBA, meaning the crossover takes places after the first Robin left. (also, no mention of the Jason Todd saga from the comics? fair)
Joker's Millions happens after the Superman crossover
@@Modernww2fare yes, i'm just saying that the FLASHBACK in which Dick Grayson left happens between BTAS and STAS
15 years of Joker sounds like hell
Batman Beyond Return of the Joker is my favorite DCU Animated movie, followed by Mask of the Phantasm
I always wondered how did Mark Hamill’s Joker dodge death all the time.
Joker didn't die from electrocution, he died from a spear shot from a gun. You counted the "censored" death which isn't canon, instead of the gunshot which is the proper version.
He escapes because Andrea hesitates too long. It is implied in the comics that she thinks Jack Napier is no longer there. I like how they basically emulated the movie to a certain extent. Joker no longer considered Sal the Don but a weak man.
How did you get those clips without the music anyways?
I believe the Joker was in the 1968 Batman/Robin Filmation cartoons. (The Adventures of Batman). He was drawn in a more cartoonish way, and his evil psychopathic character was toned down quite a bit. IDK know if it's quite the DC Animated Universe, but it should be figured into things.
As for the voice, Mark Hamill is still the best. Other voice actors--John DiMaggio, for example--are good, but only Hamill has that laugh down pat.
Of course, the first BTAS iteration, was the best one. Second best in my opinion, the iteration with red pupils.
I guess the reason why Batman in this universe never kills the joker (just a thought) is that perhaps he feels guilty for what Batman did to him. In essence Joker was already a villain and Batman made it worse.
You know I could have sworn there was a introduction episode for the joker with him robbing a a bank and Batman figuring out the cause of the laughing victims.
Joker f'd up hard when he did that to Tim smh lol
The Batman Beyond design was my favorite. The one from New Batman Adventures/World's Finest -- the less said, the better.
All of them was my favorite, who was voiced by Mark Hamill.
No steam left in the old locomotive that's hilarious
Esse coringa de 83 é o que tem o melhor visual estético.
I like that in this universe he has a very clear name.
Batman TAS joker really had the perfect balance of gangster, psycho, and genius.
Was I the only one that didn’t know there was a censored version of Joker getting shot by Robin
i think i once knew and forgot about it until today because i know i saw both versions as a kid but the only version i saw as an adult was the original version
@@enviousgaming3250 That wasn't the original version, even though it was the first one I watched. That's the one edited for family viewing due to the Columbine massacre in 1999, over a year before its release on home video.
I think you're forgetting the fact that joker was there is about two decades between year zero and the start of the Animated Series cuz there's the however long was between the flashback of mask and the Phantasm and him falling into asset and then there was the entire lifetime of Robin
My favorite version of The Joker is from Batman The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures and Batman Beyond!!!
The animated series is always my favourite
Finally, somebody used the mobster joker origin. Ever since the Red Hood storyline happens. This version of the Joker has been lost to the public. Tim Burton Batman show this storyline
