Iv seen old videos of people going like 20 to 30 mph of on very bumby roads they used them in the war in very rough and muddy conditions my grandfather rode 1911 out to California from Iowa with my grandmother on the back of it and never looked back.

The Colt 1911 aged a hell of alot better. Seeing this Harley and knowing it's from the same Era as one of the most popular gun designs today is absolutely insane and just shows how far ahead of its time it was when you look at other things from that Era.

I could picture my great grandfather on one of these, he was born in 1911. He was the one in the family that rode motorcycles, up until I was born 👊🏻✊🏻
My father's first M/C was a belt drive Harley when he was a teen (born 1911). He mentioned that one of the characteristics after riding them for a while was that the belt would squeel about every two miles and you would stop to lube the belt with something to make it grip. At that time, it was considered part of normal riding and considered reliable.

Last week I just watched the fantastic documentary of the HD and Indian motocycle inventors' competition, so this video is icing on that cake !!! (The TV show is S1 E4 of History Cannel's "Machines that Built America".)
That is just unbelievable! When men were men. We've come a long way. That was actually work. Don't wear anything loose fitting or any sneakers with laces or that chain will eat you up. Nice job! Hopefully it makes us appreciate what we have in many facets of life. Ride safe, ride often.

That’s where you messed up. The 1911 model year was much higher quality than the 1922 to present years.

I can't believe how consistent the idle of this thing was. No fluctuations in speed or misfires even from cold.

Met an old guy when I was a kid that had a 1912 Indian. Beautiful bike!
The first motorcycles had pedals. My custom bike has pedals, but I AM the motor. Been riding since April, 1970. Over 50 years.
