Custom Suicide shifter bike ride.

- This is a video I originally made when I was considering selling the bike. I rebuilt this bike after a spine injury left me unable to lift my left (shift ) foot. I struggled with clutch modulation with my limited movement ability so I added the centrifugal clutch. Surgery has fixed my back but this bike is still great to ride. Couple notes , I had ordered some gun parts from spike tactical before I made it, so when I say I got the clutch from spike industries, yea that was a mistake. It is a Rekluse clutch, great company. The shifter is made by led sled customs, another great company.

The best looking Harley I've ever seen had a suicide shift. It had a chrome gate up the top for the level to move in. Didn't think at the time what it would be like to ride it but it looked super cool. This guy makes it look easy.
Yea the skull on the shift lever really defies convention and makes it unique..
@@CWHollemanoh shut up bozo.
It is called a suicide clutch, however this bike has a centrifugal clutch and therefore super easy to operate, I have a 64 panhead harley that has a real 'suicide clutch' coupled with a 'search and destroy' (no shift gate) tank shifter that I've been riding since I was 19 years old, I'm 61 now and still ride it. Incidentally this bike is kick start only with manual spark advance control,
@@davebaker9128 What would a no shift gate transmission not have in terms of function vs a standard ratchet sequential transmission? I looked everywhere and I have no idea what it is.
@@ThePower1037 the gate is to locate individual gears when shifting, a ratchet shifter has the shifter lever return to a central position between shifts, a gateless hand shifter without a ratchet top transmission is called "search and destroy" incidentally the clutch pedal that is just a pedal you push to disengage the clutch is a "suicide clutch" a pedal with two areas to step on as to disengage or engage the clutch is a "rocker clutch pedal"
Should've made a clutch as another lever on the right side. Now, that's what I call a suicide shifter.

sounds absolutely brutal, cant imagine riding with my hands above my head for any length of time though, never really understood the harley seating position
The position of your hands that high has nothing to do with Harley seating position but what the owners of Harleys and other custom bike owners decide to do by adding taller handlers bars and/or lowering seat height. As a matter of fact it is illegal in most states for your hands to be above shoulder height so there is no way Harleys or any bikes could pass regulations if they came that way.
That said.. aside from it looking cool if you like that look I am not sure if it becomes a problem after a length of time but there are riders out there that go on very long trips with "ape hanger" bars. Those bring the hand position well above head, especially if the seating is lowered. This is a thing and has been for decades.
@@whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306 still dumb

That auto clutch is a fantastic idea. Love it!
It’s not a auto clutch, he uses the clutch with his left foot
You are both right on this one. The clutch automatically engages when you let off the throttle but you need it for shifting tho
Wrong Brett... The bike would NORMALLY require the left foot to hold the clutch in at stops. This system is set up so that you do NOT need to use the foot clutch to start from a dead stop or feather it while stopped on hills. It IS an automatic until you need to shift into higher gears. You don't even hold it in (or down ) with this plate installed.
Some of us don't even use a manual clutch for those shifts above first, so your actual use of the foot clutch is completely dependent on your riding skills and the familiarity with your bike. I'll even match my revs to downshift smoothly w/o clutching, but not from second to first.
Heres a link to a similar unit... It looks like a centrifugal clutch pack so I wonder if you can take off in ANY gear with it when it's installed on a high torque bike such as a Harley... Hmmm.
