N.L.G. J.A.P. 1909 - World record holder
Probably the tittle of biggest capacity motorcycle produced by a British manufacturer can be shared between the Matchless and N.L.G. models built in the 1906-9 period. Both used almost identical J.A.P. engines and both were intended solely for racing and record attempts.
The power unit was a J.A.P. Vee-twin o.h.v. and differed from other Prestwich engines in having a 80° angle between the cylinders. Bore and stroke were identical - a colossal 120 mm X 120mm. The cylinder heads were non-detachable but had the valve-guides and inlet exhaust manifold bolted to him. Due to huge volume of cylinders had to be used twin exhaust pipes.
Extra ports were cut in the cylinders of N.L.G. model to aid exhaust gases to escape - a favorite method of tuning with crack N.L.G. rider W.E.Cook.
On original photo is seen Charlie Collier, driver of matchless. Thanks to simple frame had motorcycle bad manageability and was soon cancelled as unpractical.
N.L.G. who built their machine two or three years later - had a far more satisfactory double frame. Three tubes were used to carry each end of the rear spindle so that the motors’ power would not distort the frame. During world record attempt N.L.G. reached 90 miles per hour but record wasn’t recognized due to electrical timing apparatus malfunction.
What happened to them? The Matchless disappeared without trace but I the N.G.L. may have sold to the Tessier brothers (who owned the Bat Concern) and run as Bat in 1910-11. It would be fair to mention preparation of N.L.G. for Tourist Trophy 1908 race with driver Harry Bashall. Extremely powerful motorcycle with bad manageability was called Monster and proved to be inappropriate for this race.
N.L.G. J.A.P. 1909 - držitel světového rychlostního rekordu.
- Auta a dopravní prostředky
A single tear swam down my cheek with the mere gaze of this outstanding piece of ingenuity. My hats off to you good sir.
THANK YOU!
She fires once every lamppost. Love it !
Yep! Instead of engine speed being calculated in 'rpm'- ie - 'revolutions per minute' - on this magnificent machine the engine speed calculated in 'lph' - 'lamp posts per hour!!
This is one of the leanist most beautiful motorcycles I have seen. Very talanted engineer.
mikmerl1 you should see Chicara Nagata ones
MAMADOU you are right Chicara creates mechanical art. However I love the "industrial revolution" approach to this particular machine.
mikmerl1 same
Just a bike w allot of missing parts
No brakes, no clutch, no gearbox.! Fantastic.
Plenty of Guts and Glory!
geosutube No limits great machine
What are those levers on the handlebar for? What is the lever on the left footpeg?
The levers are most likely a compression release for each cylinder no clue what the foot is didn't really look I know the 2 on the side are throttle and choke
No shocks and no Kickstart too
Oh and no battery ,mudguards ,speedo or lights.
But I bet he's glad he put that extra cover on that painful looking Brooks saddle.lol
Unbelievable. it's barely running and has so much torque. A beast. Beautiful.
my god it must have a long stroke. its torqin massive
Must have an insane power to weight ratio
FlyBaby I wish I could see the finish quality in person, this is one hell of a project.
Wtf this shit
@@locktite323 torque to weight, anyway!
I'm not easy to impress, but this machine is just so spectacular! You created a piece of art and top-notch craftsmanship.
I can't remember I've ever seen anything like this. Everything was made from scratch and beautifully put together to one single amazing unit.
Congrats to you and the people who helped you to realize this build...you produced an outstanding piece of mechanical art.
Thank you very much!
you could have at least spent another 30mins just walking around this work of art with the camera. A thing of beauty SO WELL DONE. Bike porn.
Doubt It completely agree, the quality appears impeccable.
No kidding. Folks would say I'm "smart" but I'm very often reminded how not-so-smart I am when I see the truly amazing things some people are capable of.
Bike porn, beautiful bike porn.
This has to be one of the ten most beautiful mechanical things I ever laid eyes on in my life.
A masterpiece! Thank you for preserving history in this extraordinary recreation! And kudos to the brave soul who took her to 2000 RPM!
Thank you very much!
Simply a work of art...no one can take that away from the builders of this machine..everything is for me 'perfect'...what a joy to see someone's work and coupled with history style.
Well done...we are proud of you and all...👍👏👏👏👍😭
Thank you!
Real masterpiece of art! All handmade, with love and patience, there is no modern CNC machines. Beautiful work on manuel machines. This bike is a real part of history. Bike with the soul! Greetings from Serbia!
You didn't only assemble parts of old motorbike, you build them! In our era of laziness and automated tools and confort, it gives me hope for future of humanity. We as humans can give the best of ourselves equally to the worst. But this piece of art is without any doubt THE BEST.
Thank you!
I hope this inspires someone to make lovely one-offs in this theme. they could be very popular but pricey! lathe, mill, fine dremel work and polishing. wouldnt be hard if you knew exactly what you're doing. the rest of just dream and admire a fine piece like this
A work of Art! As a machinist,cyclist,and builder, it's incredibly beautiful,not like the other," I can't turn,but don't I look cool" bike.
Thank you!
Imagine telling someone how you'll race them on your 3000cc motorcycle, and you pull up on this thing.
lmfao
Don't lie to your friends
@Mr T not a Merlin but two cylinders of a Wright cyclone radial from the B29.
Изящен до безобразия !!!
From one metal-botherer to another, it would be rude of me to leave without telling you that I am truly in love with this two-wheeled horseless contrivance!!!! BRAVO 🏆
Thank you very much!
Very impressive build. That engine seems to be barely turning over at what looks like 60 kmph. Beautiful machine.
Gorgeous work, 10,000 thumbs up. I can appreciate the immense time, effort and talent it took to make this machine a running reality. I'd love to have that in my living room so I could wake up every morning and look at it. Hey guys, great job. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you!
Significant cojone value just for riding it. Well done, an engineering masterpiece
Thank you!
The art of building a motorcycle. It's just georgeous. You are a master. Thanks for sharing with us...
Love it when CZcams sends me stuff like this. I can’t believe how that motor just lumps along, every ignition stroke distinctly audible. What a lovely piece of work.
Thank you
An absolute work of a art. Beautiful.
Thank you
3rpm and 80mph. Damn!
hahaha 30 rpm maybe... 3 is a bit too low
Maybe he wanted to say 3 rouns per second? :D
on bicxcle tires
Nono. Steve meant 3 rotation per hour
three revolutions per month
Gorgeous work!
Szacunek dla determinacji i niezważania na nakłady. Od podstaw robić..
You guy built a piece of art. That bike is very beautiful. Congratulation :-)
Many thanks!
I'am shocked!!!!!.....BRAVO!!
@@PavelMalanik hello, how can I contact you? Do you have email pleaae?
Looks more like a Musical Instrument than a Motorcycle. Beautiful work!
Thank you for your appreciation
Such smooth clean flowing lines and a tribute to the constructor of this fine replica.
So amazing more than 100 years it's still engine start.
Amazing!
This is a real beauty motor cycle.
Exhaust like joyfully.
Awesome job, love the sound of that engine and the looks of the bike.

How neat is that! What a sound!
Such a beautiful machine , talk about the craftsmanship !
Thank you!
i don't have the words to explain how awesome this is
There's truly no words to correctly describe such a fantastic build! Engineering is a bit of an understatement in my opinion. I wish I could just see it let alone ride the beauty. Congratulations ten times over Sir.
Thank you!
absolutely awesome work, fully appreciated !!! shez a big girl indeed, I ride an mt 01 at 1700 cc it's nothing to shy about but over 2 litres is just mad, I love it! :-) :-) :-)
that is simply beautiful, and you built it!! that is truly epic!!
Amazing, the bike, the work behind it, the mechanical beauty. Thank you !
Wow! What a work of art. Kinda rough running, but...Wow. I think I'd just sit an look at it instead of TV.
Many thanks!
Beautiful bike ! At low revs it sounds like a locomotive . TY to all those involved in building this wonderful historic racer as well as those who filmed this video . It would be nice if this team got to take the bike to Bonneville & see how fast it could go . For the fact that it could hit 90 mph as a single speed bike back then says a lot , as the state of metalurgy has definately improved as well as the quality of fuel , I wouldn't be supprised to see this bike be able to do 120 mph out on the salt flats w/racing fuel . TY again to all those involved in this project .
This is torque !
This is one of the most completely gorgeous things I have ever seen!
the perfekt video!Musik, and a real piece of art! Can't get any better!!!!
Thank you for sharing this with us!

Thank you for your appreciation.
Wonderful work, I'm drooling. PRETTY
a work of art.
Это не может быть произведением исскуства, чтобы завести основной двигатель... Нужен пусковой.. Это что? Самолёт? На мой взгляд табурет с мотором для извращенца😂
Absolutely gorgeous machine! Congratulations!
That was beautiful thank you, I saw it before but this time I had a lump in my throat, I must be getting old.
Amazing engineering Sir, I take my hat off too you
That one hell of a long stroke.
No clutch
No brakes
No gearbox
No fucking way you would get me on it.
Beautiful machine.
Monocle falls from eye.. Good lord.
Seriously though, what an amazing replica. It truly is a thing of beauty.
