- GOOD OR BAD IDEA ? Adding a SOUND module to an electric RC SPITFIRE !

James brings his Flightline Spitfire down to the flying field for our first outing of the year. He'd added a sound module. Was it worth it? Tell us what you think.

It sounds fabulous when it overpowers the whine of the electric motor.👍Tutorial please Dom/James with that same ‘Sense’ sound module and advice with balance and c of g….ASAP😉🙏🏻
Will do Derrick. We've got 2 more on the way. I'll be using one and next time out we'll share more info on setup. James def didn't check his CG. It was tail heavy!
Absolutely a big yes! Sounds great. Game changer.
Absolutely!
I have these installed most all my foamy props. The key for max sound output is to mount on the most flexible part of the airframe... Thin (3/8-1-2")/tall/wide walls allow the tranducer to vibrate the foam easier. All of these together= best install but any single one will help a lot. Mounting over carbon stiffeners will reduce output. In my flrc 1.6m Spit, I mounted 2 txducers just behind the lipo hatch. It's not optimal but still sounds good. My fms 1.7m P-51 with tall/wide walls right behind the canopy is optimal. The cavernus space enhances sound even more. The worst for sound output was in my 1.6m flrc p-38, which was not really worth the effort. Fms 1.5 P-47, due to it's elongated fuse sides was another great result. My fms 1.7 Corsair, with 4 txducers, sounds like a beast. 1 in cowl, 1 in aft fuse, 2 on sides. It uses RCSounds module though. I use Mr rc sounds transducers, chucking the light weight ones that come with ESS Sense hobby modules. I glue the wires to the 'ducer frame so the solder joints don't vibrate loose. They have been reliable.
Also , have pairs in my fw 1.4m Mossi and fms 1.4m bf109, mounted along side of and infront of lipo, respectively.
Hi Barron, what glue do you use to attach the transducers? Foam safe CA?
Sounds a good idea too me, and does sound like the real thing.
From my experiences you'd need a 15" subwoofer to reproduce what I FEEL when a warbird flies close by or does a start-up. 🙂
🤣
Veeeeery GOOD !!!
i have the RC Aspire in my spitfire and the sound is very realistic
I got one of these sound modules. It has radial engine and Merlin sounds also cannon/gun sounds. I have tested it and sounds pretty good and will fit into an avios spitfire i purchased a few months ago👍
Sounds great
Thats pretty cool! sounds pretty good in the air!
That's a really nice sounding plane especially given the anemic sound of electrics.
Nice James. Although with the speaker there I'd say it's given you a slightly rear ward C of G. Looked a bit sensitive on the elevator. I wonder if you use the bigger surface area of the wing as a speaker instead to allow you to get your battery more forward. Larger surface area for the speaker would mean louder sound too. Just all depends if there's room on top of the wing inside the fuselage and depends if the thickness of the wing at that point would dull the sound affect. I know space is at a bit of a premium in this model and not easy to get the wing on and off as it is with all the wires. But just a thought
Hi mate: yes it was really pitchy! I’ll play about with CG for sure
@@jamesbennet5409 yeah these spits in particular are hugely sensitive on the old elevator. I never normally use expo but on this I have to. Looks awful in the air otherwise
Put it in the in the top of the wing would give it more sound.
The only drawback, flying time will be less.
That's what I had with the GT power system.
I do like the sound card, I always have had issues with 3 of them. Maybe it was a batch or something. Great flight, thought the Spit had more damage on the landing. Lucky I guess 👍🏻
Sounds great, gonna build mine in it aswell!..Thanks for sharing!
No problem 👍
Been using the aspire system for awhile in my spit and never really got to the point where I was happy with it. Transducers get hot, sound drops off, can’t really hear it at full throttle. If I didn’t mount them in fuse behind wing I would have taken it out. I think it’s more headaches than worth it.
I think it sounds great. With the the accurate sound you really can’t tell much difference between a little airplanes in the big ones
Fantastic....I have one in my Beaaver and love it.
Good to hear!
it just sounds amazing. Very good video and work keep it up
Thanks, will do!
I love the idea
Yes!!!! Absolutely!!!! The cure for flying mower sound.
This is the only way to fly them!
May I ask which module you are using?
Great flight, sounds good, ok, that landing was a bit unreal, hah!
It was!
Nice sound James, buy whoa, how high and slow did you want to approach the grass?? Nice work though. Thanks for sharing Dom.
Which sound module did you use
You have a few different types of simulated sound systems. Can you still use gyros or does the vibration from the sound throw them off? My an RC Simulated Sound System Showdown is in order for a video ?
I Love it. The 1200mm warbirds just don’t have the room to do this or they all would have one In my hanger 👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻
It needs that high-speed whine when spitfires are in a dive
Is there one for an a-10 warthog?
It needs the supersonic blade tip sound at full throttle.
Nice video. 👍🏻 I really think it sounds good ! Woud be nice to have a button to press and hear the machineguns aswel 😀 dispite the landing, nice flight. Thanks 🤘🏻
Yes...it does that but you obviously need an extra channel. James only had a 7 channel receiver. I'll def be using an 8 channel for maximum sound next time !
@@EssentialRC cool. 👍🏻
Good idea....
nifty, a good mod in my book to add to the characteristics of the spit. 👍
Indeed! Just received 2 more units yesterday to put in Jason's and my Flightline Spitfires. A video of that soon !
Next it’s gonna be an rc huey playing Fortunate son
Sounds good. Needs more elevator expo.
CG issue we think actually. Will check and resolve before all 3 of us go up with our own sound systems !
Are you happy with the ess air unit?
Are there any other sound modules available?
Hmmm. It's OK. It's not especially loud but placement of the inducers is very important. We found best place is on the insides of the fuselage at the front ensuring the battery can still fit in.
@@EssentialRC i have got a freewing p51 old crow and was wondering if it will work
It's quite light so I suspect it would
Well polystyrene foam doesn't resonate, in fact it's normally used as a sound deadening medium, so you're never going to get a good sound output from transducers - needs speakers and a perforated fuselage - nice vid shame about the tip stall on landing.
Which Spitfire''s brand is it ?
Flightline from Motion RC
Not bad, but far away from a real merlin sound, it doesn't seem equalized enough yet.
Still an electric high speed whine unfortunately. 6/10
The module sounds good but I think it would be wise to be aware of any neighbours in the vicinity of the flying field. Too many rc flying sites have been lost because of noise issues.
Never going to be louder than the 2 and 4 strokes we have operating at the flying field. Fairly sure we're safe on that one.
RC TANK SOUND ?
No. Merlin.
It would be great if it were about 10 times louder.
When I get mine I'll see if room in the wings. Doubtful.
My big question is. Why would it be a BAD idea?
Because it adds wait and might not sound realistic?
Sounded more like a jet.
You've been flying in MSFS MB-339 too long Jake mate ! 🤣
Sounds good in the air-not so good on the ground
Sounds great but of course your video has already sold them all out lol
Before I realised it is an electric foamy I was going to ask why wouldn't you just put a real engine in it. I'm a dumb ass
