    I have been struggling to do the pump drill correctly for SO long. The club was always moving past parallel to the ground, and the club was usually parallel to the target line rather than a bit behind my hands as I would like. After watching this video, I began keeping my back to the target during the pump drill. The club is now above parallel to the ground and the club head is behind my hands. Thank you!

    This is a great video. My long iron ball striking has been really poor lately and I think I just picked up on something I know I'm doing wrong but couldn't quite figure out how to stop. I'm looking forward to trying some of these drills on the range and seeing if it helps. Thanks for the tip!

    You guys are the best! The Gears hip movement, pros vs ams was a game changer for me. I have hit those positions before, striking the ball very well but changed since I thought it was incorrect vs what I was taught in 2010.

    The pump drill is exactly what I needed to see to help with my casting of the club. Can't wait to start working on this on the range. I plan on getting started at home to begin the muscle memory process. Thanks for the channel and all of the great instruction.

    This is a very timely video as this is something I’ve been trying to correct in my swing. I’ve watched all your videos recently about releasing the angle in the trail arm on the downswing but I have a hard time doing this while maintaining my wrist angle to the area around the back hip. Any thoughts on this? Appreciate all the content you guys put out.

    I practiced the Justin Rose pump drill today as suggested at the range. 2 things I noticed: it really makes you stay centered on top of the ball and swing in in a downward slope to impact . Great drill!

    Hello, I have the slide across problem (middle example in video), I've now realised it's because my left arm stays pinned to my upper chest at the top. I'll be doing the pump drill at the range later to try and cure that. I like the way you identify possible/potential problems and then give drills to solve them. Thank you.

    Hey guys...thanks for another great video. One thing I would love see a video for is "staying connected". This is a common phrase you hear regarding proper takeaway. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Should I feel constant pressure between my biceps and pecs throughout the swing? That seems restrictive, but I can understand why that would lead to better ball striking (less potential for excess movement). As always, thanks for all you do :)

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  Před 5 lety

      DO NOT try to stay connected. You're exactly right, it is restrictive and the good swings don't do it. We've shown why in a few videos, here's one of them: czcams.com/video/MSVJiP85eRU/video.html

  • @PhilZim

    Hi, i really like the pump drill you showed. One thing I am always struggling to understand is how the lead hip moves in that first pump motion. I definitely suffer from too much slide and therefore lagging the arms behind me and then scoop the club eventually. Do i have to focus on my left hip moving out of the way already during that pump? Or do you really just move the arms down and have the hips basically parallel to the target line? Thank you so much for your input!

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  Před 4 lety +2

      yep, do them very slowly (MUCH slower than you think) until you get the sequence right. Then allow speed to slowly go up, but only if you can keep the sequencing you want.

    Question for you guys regarding recentering and the problem of reverse pivot. In working on re centering I noticed that I was actually bumping my lower half target side which looked a lot like a reverse pivot. Is it just a matter of not overdoing the recentering? I noticed that when you did the second drill there was no recentering done. You came to the top, stopped then bumped the hips.

    Great video! One question. Didn't Jones, Nicklaus etc... keep their arms up in backswing for as long as possible and pull the club down with a body shift(left heel plants on ground) and leave the arms out of it for as long as possible? I hope this makes sense..

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  Před 5 lety

      They certainly shifted but I don't see them leaving the arms out of it.

  • @tommoholub
    @tommoholub Před 5 lety +1

    When pulling your arms down from the top of the backswing... is the direction of the pull straight down to the ground? Or is there a target you could suggest we pull the hands toward? I've heard left thigh?

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  Před 5 lety

      Great question, Tom... the pull is in 3 dimensions but we're all used to seeing the swing from face on or down the line. From face on, it curves out away from the target. From DTL, it's pretty much vertical for the first several inches.

    Hi Guys - really appreciate having you share these awesome tips and videos. i was curious is there any way you can do a video on how the takeaway would be seen from the golfers point of view at address? when i do mirror work the club looks good but when i am over the ball my perception of the club, shaft and my hands is very skewed, especially when the clubs get longer. ie during the take away, from my perspective the hands appear like they are going away from me, but when i check the mirror the club head/shaft is pitching up the elbow plane nicely. i hope this makes sense.

  • @delmaryennie2061
    @delmaryennie2061 Před 4 lety

    Gentlemen, I have a question. Do you, as you are coming through the impact zone have a FEELING that you are going to hit the ball with the back part or hazoel of the club? I let the shoulders bring the club around and that is the move that squares the club. Am I wrong, because if I try to square the club earlier I end up pulling the shot and over squaring the club face. I find I even do this with my chip shots too.

    • @tylerfj24
      @tylerfj24 Před 3 lety

      feel as if your backhanding the ball (not pointing your glove at the ball) but the back of your glove hand must be facing the target to have a square face (if your grip is correct. so i feel like i am backhanding the ball

    Hey fellas. Every video has made a big difference to my golf. I had given up until I started watching your videos especially the ones using the gears. You debunked a whole heap of myths I had been following. I gained distance, contact feels amazing and my major miss has gone from right to left. I'm even playing and practicing less to get that happening.
    Bunkers have still got me stumped. Why does the swing have to change so much from a pitch or chip shot? Surely the club can do the change for us these days?

    • @sashmaster3433
      @sashmaster3433 Před 5 lety +1

      Chip and pitch arent really different, the club does almost the same. When pitching, you just swing more and everything else will follow naturally (if you relax urself).

    • @raddpetersdc
      @raddpetersdc Před 5 lety

      @@sashmaster3433 thanks. I was meaning why everyone seems to teach the bunker swing so different from everything else and why it can't just be like a pitch/chip swing? Thoughts?

    • @sashmaster3433
      @sashmaster3433 Před 5 lety +1

      @@raddpetersdc beacuse if you chip bunker shot, you risk bad distance and spin control. Just play it like a pitch, hit the sand 2 inches behind the ball. Important is also very wide stance and keeping your right heel on the ground (rolling of the heel during follow through). You can open club face a bit and set the shaft more shallow to the ground (like if you wanted to put the hosel on the ground first). And also dig your feet into the sand (that is the secret 😂😂)

  • @76MUTiger
    @76MUTiger Před 4 lety

    Arms first vs. turn first. Lotsa controversy. One school says start torso rotation first, turning chest into left bicep, and later blasting left arm off the chest. Like swinging an axe... body goes first, arms follow and accelerate. Here you say arms drop first, shallowing club, then rotation goes. Please discuss this in more detail or point me to a video you have already made on the topic. Thanks!!!

    This did not help. I’m beginning to think nothing can help for someone who learned and trained the cast. I really think the word cast comes from the fact at the bottom, it’s a casting motion, like if you are fishing and need to get it underneath a low branch. If you have ever done that, you know what I mean. That sudden braking is what is baked into my swing. I’ve watched every video. Tried every teaching aid. Yeah I can swing slow and not cast. I can get a nice piercing trajectory and my 7 iron flies about 130. I can hit it 160 if I cast. Once I try and speed it up, the cast comes back with a vengeance.
    I’m beginning to think that those who cast are beyond help.
    I’ve can bow the left wrist but if I brake to get that speed,. That now just flips when the body stops.
    There seriously is nothing on the entire internet that has helped
