Love these old rifles, but this looks like something I could really bugger up in a hurry. Your doing great work on it.

This series is great My boys and I are planning on getting the same kit after my next deployment. Glad to see that you are covering how to do some of the assembly so I will have at least a starting point. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Mike for this series! Very helpful and encouraging to those of us that are somewhat apprehensive to tackling such a task! Thank you so much for all the hard work and quality videos you do for our sport & heritage! GOD BLESS!

I just played it on CZcams, and the sound was fine for me.

Just a helpful tip for next time you build one of these kits, file the tang so that the bottom is narrower than the top, this is called filing a draft, it should be about 7 degrees of angle, do the same to the lock plate, side plate and any escutcheons you are inletting. make your file cuts up and down, if you file from side to side the file marks try to grab the wood making the parts much harder to take them back out.As you inlet deeper the wider top of the parts will fill the inlet completely while the narrower bottom will help you start the piece into the pre cut mortise.

Thanks for the video it’s just what I was looking for in trying to decide whether I want to get a kit or not. The criteria must be pretty high if you don’t consider yourself an “advanced hobbiest” though lol

Bought a French Trade fusil gun kit frm TOW, ordered walnut. The tang that came w/barrel was too long n narrow, which made it bend too easily but made do.I had Track fit the breach plug to barrel for me at a fee.n was done perfect.I also used the "white lighting" touch hold which is excellent! Over all it was a good challenge an exciting build the price was right. You can see this fine finished flintlock on "Beckumoutdoors" dvd titled "Flintlock Fun" Thanks Mike n keep yer powder dry!

Nice build, so far. Wish I had a) the money for one of these and b) the room to work on it.
With all that red lipstick smeared on the stock, it looks like you have been infusing some of your blood into the project. :-)

Mike, rather than having to work around the camera, is there a way you could put the camera and lights on the other side of the bench? Or, if that vise is fixed to your workbench, you might try using something like the old B&D Workmates (do they still make them?). That way you could face the camera, see what you're doing, and the camera would have a good view as well. I realize you're working in your basement, not a TV studio, and your space is limited.
You're doing a great job on the rifle.

I seem to only get sound in my left headphone, it might just be the fact that the camera you are using has stereo microphones which means its only picking up sound from the left, great work by the way :D

Changing the video quality will also effect the sound.

What would be the best way to remove the lipstick from the stock? Can you use mineral spirits or varsol? Thanks

It comes right off when you tart sanding or scraping. It doesn't penetrate very deeply at all.

So, you can use lipstick to "mark" the barrel for fitting into the stock? i am making a percussion pistol stock from scratch and is having some problems with fitting the barrel atm.
Also, i would kill for your workshop :)

Yes. Lipstick works. Or you could buy some Jarrow's Inletting Black.
