  • In this update I'm getting ready to do the lock and side plate molding. But before I can actually start to work on that, I've got to fix a couple of problems with the build. In this video I'll mix up a sawdust and glue paste to plug up dings, and I'll build up an area that was inletted too deeply. I'll also profile the tang.

Again Mike, Thank you for doing there videos. I did a CVA 12ga. side by side Kit back in 1981. Took me 3 months, but came out fantastic. I wish your videos were around then. :O)

Nice attention to detail. On one end of the spectrum you have people who buy these kits, slap them together, and create functional weapons that aren't much to look at. On the other end of the spectrum you have people who pay attention to details and really work hard to make the final result both functional and beautiful. Thanks for sharing this process. I have to admit that before seeing this series of videos I would have naturally fallen into the former category by default simply because I wouldn't have known any better. Now I know just how much work these kits can be if you are striving for something that is a cut above the rest.

Thanks for doing this series, Mike. As a builder myself, I am always interested in watching others do the same. When I have had to do a repair in the past, I have used a similar method. However, I use an exterior grade glue... Titebond II. I am sure that Elmer's produces a comparable product. Any exterior grade adhesive should work, though. My reasoning for this is that if I happen to get caught out in the rain while hunting, I don't have to worry that a patch or piece is going to fall off... lol.
Again, thanks for the series, and I am anxious to see your progress.

Their TC replacement locks are made by L&R, and they are very good quality locks.

Great series.Lets me know it was a good idea not to tackle a kit like this.w.r.t the trigger guard, you could have (1)brazed the bezel, reshaping the brass level with the wood, or (2)shimmed the thing, metal not wood dust. There is always a different way to do things,it is as much about the personality as about the thing made. One man's standards is another's anal retentiveness.Cheers, keep it up.I look forward to the time you proof it.PGM.
