Tuners are just op on this canyon race. You might stuggle in the beginning because of sharp turns where tuners aren't actually that good, and straights where you're just not fast enough. But as soon as you leave the sharp turns area, you get to take the large turns with full speed, meanwhile Darius will have to use his brakes, or hit walls. You can basically overtake him in the long downhill after the main turn, because you never used brakes in it, and he will. Just make sure not to fall too far behind in the beginning and it'll be fine for the end. This trick is pretty decent since it can be done with tier 2 cars like the RX-7.
When I faced him the first time I used the Camaro SS 1987 tuned up completely back 2011. (This is the only race I have NOT beaten with the SS so I was like "I can beat Darius" but NAH NAH NAH)
what i did during the canyon race was get out my fully upgraded corvette. and at the first turn, i didnt use the brakes i slammed his darius's car and somehow went right passed him and stayed in the front for ten seconds
I recommend the viper. It has awesome speed. And to deal with the handling problem you can just use speedbreaker. In the canyon you can just pass him on the first turn.
I dont know if you're referring to Darius' car as a class D car and the forza as a class A but in this game you cant rely on that at all. Darius car is actually faster than that forza (or should i say the Koenigsegg CCX but its too long)
Played this game thousands of times. The first time I beat Darius was in a Corvette. At the time, I was about 12, & I didn't know about the "points" rule (non Eng speaker), so I kept trying until I just surpassed him directly at the first canyon round. lol
I use that corvette Zo6 and when the race start, there the left corner so i catch him and brake to make it easy to make Darius in the back and blocked him till the time ends (i played it on ps2 :p sorry for bad english btw)
It's just that in exotics you aren't better in anything. He will be superior in all stats in his Audi, so you have to use a tuner to get better steering or mustle for a speed advantage. Personally Mitsubishi Lancer evolution worked best for me.
Muscles work in his canyon duel as well. Only the Viper and Corvette are proven to beat Darius. Darius might be hard to beat at the beginning of the canyon race but if you overtake him before the sharp turn, that's a yes move right there.
I've tried using Plymouth hemi cuda with highest available upgrade. It takes accurate smashing the r8 on the left door to bounce the car towards the road after the sharp turn with no braking. Then, try to get away from the opponent by driving skillfully and blocking.
You actually can cheese the canyon race! If you slam into his left side in the first turn in a position that your hood is first he can actually push you as long as you are turning into him! MAY TAKE PRACTICE! If you don't get it start over (you will know when it happens). If you actually get it right you will have to steer into him the whole time. Around 1/2 turs and you win! This makes it possible to beat the game with one car that is not the starting one!
I think because,of the tiny areas and tight turns,if you add NOS to it you'll just end up flying off the cliff,so they wanted to make it easier for the player so they removed NOS from it.
Anybody who doesn't use the Corvette in the canyon against Darius is dumb you can literally overtake him before the damn first corner and win the race within about 10 seconds😂
Ive beaten him using the corvette too, but I rather use the dodge challenger because its my favorite car from carbono, also its harder and i like it, feels good to beat him with it
It was my first PlayStation 2 game. Been playing it for the past 8 years. For me,tuners work the best (Lancer is the ultimate tuner) Exotics are good too.The best is definitely Carerra GT,followed by Ford GT (McLaren is just a fat ass hauling down the mountain pass honestly) Also,if you want to make the muscle cars to drive really well,go to the Performance section and do the following setting:- Brakes (middle row,to the Rear Bias side) Suspension (middle row,and shift to the Front Bias side) Even Exotics literally drive like tuners with this setting. and Muscle cars don't drift unnecessary with that setting try it out. Also,if you have a hard time with the Rubber banding AI. Just max out the performance,but don't equip the Nitrous. Keep it stock. It would be a tad bit fairer race then.

Two days ago beat him again after years... Good nostalgia 👌 The way I did was with the Murcielago fully upgraded, I learned how to play perfectly with: just use only hand break when breaking is needed lol and then deal with the drifting off 👌
By me the same, only i was driving whith a added R8 v10 Spyder but i was not able to drive both stages becouse he flow off in the 2. corner on the first race ^^

Corvette, has great handling for a muscle car and has the acceleration and power of a muscle, if you restart the race it starts you a little further back from the first corner, with that extra bit of straight you can pass him in the first corner and win

Well muscle car have very poor handling and slides a much, exotics is fast but when at high speed the front wheel feels like glued to the ground. I recommend the tuner for canyon duels. Because in the canyon there Will be so much turns, tuner have a really good handling, also in canyon duels top speed doesnt matter, all it matters is handling and skill, if you have both you can beat him :)
It's funny how to this day, I still play this game. Every single time I played this game over and over, regardless of any factor, I used a Mitsubishi Evo VIII to overtake Darius in the first run in the canyon. It just handles so well. However, my friend showed me that it was possible to use a Corvette ZO6 to overtake him quickly, but that thing handles horrendously. I used the Corvette to mop up all the races I had left before taking on Darius in my Evo, but canyon for me in that, noooooooo.
The best car in the game is Mercedes-Benz SLR Mclaren. And I defeated him with just that. Thanks to your tips. Without your tips, I were finding it difficult to beat him (in the canyons). Thanks again :)
I think that the best car to beat him is using a maxed out Corvette with "acceleration" configured transmission, you can overtake him in the first corner in canyon
Even though I don't like Muscles (Expect Chevrolet corvette ZO6, dodge viper, dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro), I think they are the best for beating Darius since they have the highest acceleration and all you need for the Canyon races is high acceleration
My way is tuning Corvette or Viper for top speed and grip. It solves the excessive sliding problem and I have ridiculous speed on top of the accelration which is already enough to smoke him in a straight line.
I’ve used to be stuck at the canyon having been used to wall grinding race as a kid. Now I just pick my gallardo and floor it hard in the 1st corner. Kinda hard but it work on my 2nd try.

actualy nfs's have realy difrent gameplay on pc and ps2 for example on pc it's easier to beat darious with galardo, how ever on ps2 that's allmost imposible.... on ps2 rather use mercedez mclaren
The only bit I found annoying was the city circuit. In the canyon race all you need to do is hit the apex at the mid/late point on the corners, then you would be able to keep up. Because there is no traffic, I would advise you to frequently glance at the map
I like nfs carbon and your tips are good for the city race for the canyon however you should go with the dodge viper because of the acceleration at the long downhill just before the end you can get the lead for 10 sec then you win full time
There's actually the fourth shortcut in the first race. Darius usually takes that one. But to take it, you must bypass the second shortcut cuz it's located up the road shortly afterwards on the left side.
Back then I couldn’t beat them until on my 2nd career (and yes it was after a game over) I cheesed it by the same thing Dodge Viper from first corner but instead of completely overtaken I caused Darius to fall off from the second corner XD
The Vette Z06 is the best at doing it . People say it's hard to control , but , it actually isn't. Just put some grip tires and feel the perfect acceleration , handling and top speed .
buy the corvette zr1, it is up to the maximum, but from special upgrades only the engine needs to be upgraded to the left for acceleration and when it wins it in a regular race and when it comes to the canyon restart race and you can finish it in the first curve
i used skyline to beat him, i play manual transmission but for stage 1 canyon i shifted to automatic and 2nd stage i used manual. the trick with canyon races is to shift down to gear 2 at turns without using breaks (for skyline and evo dunno bout the rest)
with the Dodge Viper (fully tuned) you can bypass him in the first turn and get him off... (when done correctly) you may need a bit more trys but its still pretty cool 😜
weird that this video pops up now, years after I stopped playing Carbon but still enjoy playing Heat. Also I just used a Corvette and passed him at the long wide left heading into the downhill section. Also since the player cant push his car I normally slam off his side while he is turning and instantly take the lead. Just gotta pray its an easy recovery doing it like that, otherwise yeah Corvette op.

They actually aren't. All the cars steer the same in sharp turns. Tuners are just good at steering at high speed because they don't lose any grip.

No matter which car you have, you only need three things to beat him:
1. Great skills
2. Max upgrade
3. Implementation of 1 and 2.
The opponent's cars behave depending on the speed of your car, so it is possible to defeat darius with rx8 stock for example

There are technically 4 shortcuts in the game. It's the one towards the 2nd shortcut. Just drive straight and then there's one there

I think that the best car to beat him is using a maxed out Corvette with "acceleration" configured transmission, you can overtake him in the first corner in canyon

Even though I don't like Muscles (Expect Chevrolet corvette ZO6, dodge viper, dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro), I think they are the best for beating Darius since they have the highest acceleration and all you need for the Canyon races is high acceleration

My way is tuning Corvette or Viper for top speed and grip. It solves the excessive sliding problem and I have ridiculous speed on top of the accelration which is already enough to smoke him in a straight line.

actualy nfs's have realy difrent gameplay on pc and ps2
for example on pc it's easier to beat darious with galardo, how ever on ps2 that's allmost imposible.... on ps2 rather use mercedez mclaren

The only bit I found annoying was the city circuit. In the canyon race all you need to do is hit the apex at the mid/late point on the corners, then you would be able to keep up. Because there is no traffic, I would advise you to frequently glance at the map
If you can do that, then you would be able to keep up with him with an rx8 with only a few mods

I like nfs carbon and your tips are good for the city race for the canyon however you should go with the dodge viper because of the acceleration at the long downhill just before the end you can get the lead for 10 sec then you win full time
There's actually the fourth shortcut in the first race. Darius usually takes that one. But to take it, you must bypass the second shortcut cuz it's located up the road shortly afterwards on the left side.

Back then I couldn’t beat them until on my 2nd career (and yes it was after a game over) I cheesed it by the same thing Dodge Viper from first corner but instead of completely overtaken I caused Darius to fall off from the second corner XD

The Vette Z06 is the best at doing it . People say it's hard to control , but , it actually isn't. Just put some grip tires and feel the perfect acceleration , handling and top speed .
buy the corvette zr1, it is up to the maximum, but from special upgrades only the engine needs to be upgraded to the left for acceleration and when it wins it in a regular race and when it comes to the canyon restart race and you can finish it in the first curve
i used skyline to beat him, i play manual transmission but for stage 1 canyon i shifted to automatic and 2nd stage i used manual. the trick with canyon races is to shift down to gear 2 at turns without using breaks (for skyline and evo dunno bout the rest)
The Golf 5 R32 is the best canyon car the only one in traction in the game, you have just to turn when they brake ✅🔥
with the Dodge Viper (fully tuned) you can bypass him in the first turn and get him off... (when done correctly) you may need a bit more trys but its still pretty cool 😜

weird that this video pops up now, years after I stopped playing Carbon but still enjoy playing Heat. Also I just used a Corvette and passed him at the long wide left heading into the downhill section. Also since the player cant push his car I normally slam off his side while he is turning and instantly take the lead. Just gotta pray its an easy recovery doing it like that, otherwise yeah Corvette op.

i beat the game in 3 dayz! With the canyon duels i found that each racer has a choking point< in the race!! THats when you get that chance to get in front of them.. and win
i only recommend that you use manual transition and awd car like evo ^^
