William Michael Albert Broad, known professionally as Billy Idol, is a British singer, songwriter, musician and actor. He also holds United States citizenship. He first achieved fame in the 1970s emerging from the London punk rock scene as the lead singer of the group Generation X. Subsequently, he embarked on a solo career which led to international recognition and made Idol a lead artist during the MTV-driven "Second British Invasion" in the US.

This is considered post punk, which was a more mainstream punk sound. Billy Idol was in a punk band named Generation X before he went out on his own. So his music is definitely has a punk influence to it.
Idol is a Rebel...Great rocker, entertainer, love him...sexy beastie...Def ramps you up...Still wears same swag, still a Rebel, still sexy, ladies still love him... Mony Mony THE song for audience participation. ETA: the stage mgr made sure to put all the pretty girls up front to get the best show out of Billy... Billy's a grandfather now and he still tours with Stevens.

Good Guess... Yep...."Punk Rock"... with his own touch of Glam, New Wave, Hair, Heavy Metal, Old School Rock. He created his own "Style" and it caught fire on MTV, around the same time as Alanis shook the world. Some of the best stuff from those years.
He definitely was Billy 'bit-of-everything' Idol but he made it work...a kind of Sally Ann-Halloween-Extravaganza fueled by a rock 'n' roll soul...

He came from a punk band called Generation X (BTW: that was the first time I had ever heard that term, which later came to name a generation) but then got together with the guitarist who was into New Wave and kind of created a combination of both.
