I love your bike, its so much better than my fat tire rear hub motor. Your 2nd controller is so neat it just looks like its part of a big mudguard.
I am researching in order to install a front hub motor, but I am hoping to use 1 controller and 1 battery, ( I only want a bit of extra grunt for hills.) I use my back rack for camping gear, so no rom for extra battery.
I thought of quite a neat replacement for the throttle / brake cut off issue - instead of the current throttle design just have a really small easy to pull version of a brake lever that is 1 or 2 finger operated for the throttle, therefore you would instinctively let go of it in order to pull the brake lever, this is better than having the ability to use a thumb throttle at the same time as pulling brake lever with the fingers.

  • @shipoffools2183
    @shipoffools2183 Před 2 lety

I like your set up.the brake cut outs are only needed when linked to pedal assist.
You could probably play with Tyre air pressure to help with traction on cold wet days but less air pressure means more drain on your batteries.
I’m playing with a two motor drive, but I don’t want to think about how I’m riding, I would like both to work simultaneously.

Can you do a range test of 3 sections:1.Both drives, 2.Front only, 3. Back only?
Is the stopping power good enough to bring AWD to a stop within a safe distance?
Also , if possible, I suggest you get a Super Monarch AWD bike and compare it with this.

My dual ride will be done in the next week--just got the front hub motor today. My 750 pulls 1300 to 1400 watts up a similiar hill to what you did and is at about 12 to 14 throttle only and you can fel it strain.Like you i want the torque and want to make sure both motors last.I might as well spend the money now and extend the life and enjoy 2 motors.BTw someone did a chart and having both motors--each one works at like a fraction of the power then one trying to do it--so there is hardly any strain.I also have a steep trail near me--proabably a 15%--not only does my 750 strain and I starin trying to pedal--but the front end wants to lift up--so having a the weight and extra power will be safer.

Going with two batteries instead of one is better for battery health too imo. 65A is something like 3x the original power draw, that could heat the batteries up and possibly cause premature wear. I think you went about it the best way, I'd consider PAS only on the rear with linked throttle if it was an easy waterproof cable but it wouldn't be worth the effort to custom build one for me either.

A most excellent Video, young Man.
I have a Silver Fox 'Slither' Downhill Bike, (look it up), that I have been planning to convert using two Independent Systems for VERY good reasons, and your Vid will aid my build greatly.
The Slither, with its Full Suspension and massive Forks, is already nearly a Trials Motorbike without an engine, and looks just MADE for climbing or with its Full HD Suspension comfortable for road use depending on tyres.
Where the Two Independent Systems come into their own is if you Climb or Cruise.
With the 2 System System, (LOL!), you can apply as much Power to either wheel as you wish.
If you are climbing, you need weight over and in the Front to pull you up, where the Rear will just shove the Front into the dirt, and if you are on the Road, acceleration is far more important than climbing ability, and sheer weight transfer in Physics, (my Job), throws your weight back on the Rear wheel where it can be used best.
As both Systems F+R will be bought at the same time, I will be using Two Thumb Throttles and Screens neatly side by side.
I want to know THIS !
How do you bypass the Peddle Assist so the Motor will respond directly to the Throttle ??
Do you simply disconnect it ?, and if so, with such power why have any connected at all ?
Why not ride it like an Electric Motorbike ?
    Great Video, American Dude.

I just got done building my Dual Mode E bike after months of thinking out the best way for there are many failures of not really practical while keeping the data system as jus 1 system. My base motor is my rear GEAR 500watt which I use the display of using. Trick is I only used the 2nd front 2000watt Direct drive motor once I get the Rear Gear motor running on Cruise Mode as the 2nd is the accelerated which pushes mph up to 60mph while riding over 10 miles long distance as with just using the DD motor you can only go so far at top speed of a minimal of 3 miles themost. With Gear motors you can ride 24plus miles at the least full throttle. This was the most practical method for my needs as I need to pull 150plus lbs for 12miles without having to cool down motor( Direct Drive motors Cons) Yeah!!! It is the Practical need as I'm glad I studied all the various failures and achievements.

I was kinda worried that there would be some sort of 'un-even-ness' with one motor fighting the other one, or maybe some instability between the two wheels, but apparently it's all even and works! I think I'd still want both motors to be able to be controlled through one throttle/pedal-assist system, though, instead of separately - that seems like it would feel strange to me (not having experienced anything like that). Great video, and Thank You for your continued experimentation with the RadRover - You're an inspiration to us 🙂

Generally speaking, it's best to run either a 2 channel controller, or two controllers that can communicate via canbus.
Having them running from different controllers will work, with results dependent on how closely matched the two system are.
But you don't get to fully leverage your hardware the way you can with synchronized controllers.
You'll get higher efficiency with less wear, as well as implementing a limited slip feature where the controller backs off/cuts out power to a wheel that is spinning at a substantially higher speed.
Two separate controllers over canbus, one battery that can be split into two (20s6p to 20s3p+20s3p) with a switch - gives you a single system that can be instantly split into two in the event of a component failure for 'limp home mode.'

Awesome 👍 think I might do the same except put a battery cutoff switch for the front wheel Incase something goes wonky and won't cut off

Dual drive is really nice. Had duals on my American Legend chopper, motors were geared 250w Heinzmann (very expressive 🙄) with amazing torque but after 5x motor damage I decided to pedal my bike 😅 I could buy other motors but they wouldn't fit because the frame and fork are slightly stretched to barely fit 120mm axles and brakemounts are welded on for 10" discs... It's planned to go e again but not yet

Dude! Great add on! I know, I know, you said don't do this, well I'm 65 a veteran and stubborn as the day is long, I think I'm gonna do this with my Aventure, eventually. I've been looking for 26" X 4" tires for my first build and found a 26" x 4" motorised(1000watt) front wheel kit with and I have two battery packs(48V 14.5amps) that are sitting around doing nothing, so...... 😎 🚲 What the heck!

I have a CSC on order and might do this near the end of the year. A 1200 watt fron hub motor along with a 750 watt and 2 decent batteries sounds like so much fun and range.I am sure they get pretty good range since none of them should be straining at all.I would like a splitter or whtever it is so when i throtel they both go at the same time. I wish they would make these plug and play and not so much splicing.

Can't wait to get my ebike and would love to do the same as you have but a little different just one suggestion do the high speed test while it's wet and also added to the high speed test when it's dry so we can see the difference PS I would love it if you did the live chat 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I'd love to see how this handles rough terrain, mud, sand, maybe even going up a small dune with that kind of power! although i'm sure the cleaning afterwards would put you off as this will kick up a lot of sand/dirt

I did similar with a Juiced RipCurrent S, a DIY battery to have one battery/motor, and Grin's phase and baserunner controllers so I can rip through unplowed trails with a foot or more of snow covering them. I don't know if I would trust the torque arm in your build, but if you're not riding yours as hard as I'm riding mine, it might not be anything worth upgrading.
