I popped along to a recent @_uk_car_scene car meet in the Government's ULEZ zone, which was not the busiest for sure. I later moved to locations 2 and 3 to see what Sadiq Khan's London is like for car guys right now.

I drive my V8 Mustang into London instead of my 1.6 mini because of ULEZ. What a shame.
You would need to pay me a LOT more than £12.50 to enter London. I avoid the place at all costs.

There in lies the problem, when the Ulez just covered town it was fine, now it's coving the outer boroughs it's an utter shambles.

There’s no ‘has’ about it, the Bromley pageant car show which has been going for decades has cancelled all foreseeable shows until they find somewhere outside of the ULEZ zone. As we all know it’s just a money generating scheme, it’s not about clean air 🙄 I’m having to sell my daily 1.9 diesel Vectra as it’s non-compliant, but my 2.8 V6 turbo petrol Vectra which is the highest tax band is compliant! Go figure! 🤷🏼♂️

To be fair the 1.9 is a smoking dirty thing. I’ve just traded my 3.0 TDI for a RS3 which is higher tax, higher co2 and burns more fuel but is ulez exempt 😂
Its not only killed the car scene, its killed London as a place to go. A decade or so ago it was great cruising around on an all nighter, parking up and partying. Gigs, clubs, and pubs. Now its a horrid place. As far as i am concerned the inclusive woke unicorn hate crime met (who have let the place become really unsafe) and ULEZ have done people a favour to stay away and go to much better places. Well done Khan(t).

People who don't attend car meets will never understand the true meaning behind car meets. Getting out the house and showing off your car and viewing other people's car greatly improves mental health and for some it's the only social type interaction they have.
You say this. I don’t attend these meets anymore. It’s full of silly little kids who drive like fools. Most of the cars at these Tesco meets are sh*tboxes. It’s all the same stuff. Fords/Corsas/Mercs/BMWs/Audis. No proper builds neither. You spend more time going from location to location then actually staying at a spot or having a nice cruise. Pops n bangs ruined it also. We get you wanna show off the noise of your car but not for 5 minutes straight

I did attend car meets but don’t anymore because the atmosphere at most of them if not good anymore. It’s just full of people doing stupid stuff for social media.

I drive my Mustang to Gatwick and Heathrow (5.0 v8) rather than my 1.5 Clio as the Mustang is exempt but the Clio isn’t. V8s are clearly the way forward.

As an American I'm sorry you guys got to deal with the Ulez zone us enthusiasts sadly are always seemingly getting forced to travel farther and farther to enjoy our hobby not to mention potentially not being able to even drive your car in the zone.

Maybe the MX-5 owner's been rear-ended several times and he/she wants people to have multiple points of reference that there is a car there.
ULEZ is not about engine size or tax bands. Its based on NoX emissions. Diesel Cars need to meet Euro 6 standard, which is 0.08g/km. Older petrol cars are compliant as the Euro 4 standard for petrol cars was 0.08g/km and this is what has been applied.
Euro 4 for petrols was introduced in 2005 and Euro 6 was introduced for Diesels in 2015 - this is the general guide thats been touted.
There are many older cars that meet / better these standards though and If your car complies then you can get an exemption from TFL. You can find the NoX figure on your V5 or, if its missing, you can get a certificate of compliance from the Manufacturer showing that the standard is met / bettered. Any exemption is applied to your car only, if you have a friend with the exact same car as you, they will need to do the same process.
Motorbikes need to meet Euro 3 standard, which is 0.15g/km of NoX but TFL's website is incapable of distinguishing cars from motorbikes. My 2003 Honda Hornet was flagged as non-compliant but i went through the process and got an exemption as the NoX was way lower than required. Honda didnt charge for providing it and e-mailled it within a couple of days of requesting.
You need to speak to the Manufacturer' Homologation Team.
It could be that the DAX is compliant, its just the TFL website has no idea what the car is and will say you're liable to pay by default - in fact i checked it and it just comes up as 'blue' rather than a make / model.
The MGB is exempt as its a historic vehicle, any car 40 years old, or older, is exempt from ULEZ, Tax and MOT.
But despite all that, it's still all just a money-making scam.
@@AdamC3046 Of course it is, the whole thing is to try and plug the gaping hole in Khan's finances. My point is that people can do a bit of homework and they may end up being able to keep a perfectly good car / bike and save some cash in the process. Lots of people dont realise that older cars & bikes can be compliant as its not something thats publicised. I thought i'd put it out there on a popular channel thats posted a video on the topic on the basis it might help someone.
Its obvious this isnt about air quality as proven by the fact the empty bus you filmed is non-compliant; as are a lot of the busses in the expanded zone. Not to mention all the non-compliant taxis smoking around. The air quality on the Tube is also significantly worse than even the most congested streets in london due to all the brake dust, metal particulates etc.... but as usual its the private cars and small trades getting shafted.
It's worse than a money making scheme, it's the shift towards the end of private car ownership.

had to get rid of quite a few cars when ulez rolled round. no wonder every car person in london wants a golf r nowadays. Its one of the only somewhat cool performance cars thatll be ulez for the near future 😂. ive got a 03 cooper s which is ulez, for now. Dont think it will be for much longer though :(

I reported to the London mayor's office long before the expansion was introduced that it will kill the 'modern classic' car enthusiast market and all the supporting industry. Khan and his Liberal net zero zealots will relish the fact that fewer classics will be inside the M25. There are however at least 2 major issues with such thinking. 1. Stall holders and retailers working in and around classic car display venues have now lost their livelihood 2. Owners who swap their modern classic for a Road Tax/ULEZ exempt older classic will simply produce more pollution. We all know, this is simply a cash grab theft from soft target motorists in order to bailout bankrupt London due to terrible financial ventures and management over the last 8 years.
Ulez is messed up. My dax, although is 8.2lt, is ulez compliant according to the checker but our 3.0 BMW X3 isn't. I know what I'll be driving when I next need to head up.
For me ulez is terrible as i live in north surrey which borders London, and have to go in for uni, i want to get a 90s beamer cuz it would be a cheap daily but can't cuz that would mean paying £12.50 to go the tube station.
I didn't have a problem with ulez when it was just CENTRAL London until they made it now reach sutton which i wouldn't really consider London aside from the fact it's "technically" London, it's more suburbs than anything, its predatory and causing more environmental harm as they encourage scrapping non ulez vehicles and day to day it makes buying and running older vehicles that are completely mechanically fine a living hell if your like me and the many others who have to commute into the city for work or education, not to mention train fares have skyrocketed so it's just a lose a lose situation unless you're willing to live in a shoebox with pennies to your name just so you can "save" money on travel.
London used to be a city of opportunity and diversity but now it seems to be only suited and built for the ultra wealthy with systems that target honest working and middle class people.

It’s purely a money making scheme fucking ridiculous. I’ve had a few cars which were exempt and some that were not, the most recent ones are a 1.6 2013 caddy which did 50-60mpg and £300 road tax that wasn’t exempt £9 a day to got to my nearest city, then my 2006 3.0 V6 TDI Touareg 20-25mpg £700 road tax was exempt and now my 1.9pd caddy that isn’t exempt. Because that makes sense 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

I'm surprised that JDM cars are charged the ULEZ. Are they not just marked down as zero emissions on import like US imports?
Depends if they have emissions on the original paperwork. If they have the co2 and the n0x on the original paperwork it's transferred over. If the c02 is there but not the n0x(which is often the case) the c02 is transferred and nothing is written for n0x which automatically makes it non compliant to ULEZ.

Honestly I just googled the VED and it doesn’t seem like a ridiculously high road tax : you’ll pay at most 2.5k the first year than it drops a lot and at most you pay 600£,that’s almost what you pay road tax for a shitty car in Italy, because for cars that have the likes of 500-600 hp (this is just an example so you pay even more for cars with more hp) you pay a whopping 10k euros a year for the first 10 years! Then after 10 years it drops to like half,half of half until to 20 where you pay basically nothing.This means in 10 years you pay in taxes what you probably fully paid for the car in the first place,that’s insane.
ULEZ on the other hand does seem very annoying.

We just find it funny here in England because VED is based on emissions, so if you are in the highest bracket then your car has high emissions (like the C63 !) but ULEZ has no correlation to VED 😄 A 1.6ltr Mini has to pay the ULEZ but a 6.2ltr V8 doesnt ! 😄 It's crazy

My V8 Mustang is compliant.
Pretty much every petrol is compliant from 2000 on and diesel 2016 onwards. In other words every interesting car I would want to see won't be there unless they pay the Ulez. All post 2000 stuff is dull as ditch water.

ULEZ exempt != ULEZ compliant. Post 2005 petrol cars are usually ULEZ compliant. I think a car has to be 40 years old to be ULEZ exempt.

Capital on the first letter of sentence, hoover lower case, unless you mean the brand Hoover, mickie lower case, unless someone's name, moisturiser isn't a cleaning product, in fact it is the exact opposite and you spelt it wrong anyway, pound would be a plural.

So maybe someone can explain ULEZ to this Yank. I’ve watched some of the people that block the vans, sticker the camera and cut the camera poles; is it basically if your plate is scanned in the zone you get a bill in the mail for being there?
If your plate is scanned in the zone, you have to pro-actively pay yourself (either in person at designated places, or online) within 48 hours. I guess if you don't they'd eventually send you a bill in the mail with an added fine for late payment.
I managed to get my import evo 7 ulez free. Its easy. As far as I'm aware it's the only one around that was imported as non ulez and then later was ulez.
I guarantee I could get your gfs mx5 ulez free also as I managed to get my gfs nb mx5 from 2001 ulez free.
