      Yup I agree. If ssj3 was stable then ss2 would be the forgotten middle sibling. Ssj the classic, ssj 2 the middle form, ssj3 the long haired final form (during Z).

    • @hermanjohnson9180
      @hermanjohnson9180 Před 7 měsíci +5

      It's not unstable. It was even stated in this video that even in late dragon Ball z Goku simply didn't have enough time to master it.
      Each Super saiyan form with the exception of fully mastered super Saiyan 1, puts strain on their body. Super Saiyan 2, when mastered, just accelerates stress over time.
      Super Saiyan 3 is just like Super Saiyan Blue, it is strain on the body at all times. Except Mastered Super Saiyan Blue is more stressful than Super Saiyan 2 but less stressful than mastered Super Saiyan 3.
      Well I hope that clears that up.

    • @hermanjohnson9180
      @hermanjohnson9180 Před 7 měsíci +7

      It's quite obvious in the entire series that only mastered Super Saiyan 1 allows you to recover while in that state.
      Every other form is strain on the body at some level, And you cannot actively recover unless you go out of that form.
      Regular Super Saiyan God clearly has regenerative abilities for both ki and the user's health but it is still stressing their body.

    My theory always was your body bulds muscle and strength depending on how hard you work out and rewards with equal results . With the infinite energy of the after life he was able to train at an unnatural rate and his body developed a tranformation to match that effort but when he was revived he didnt have that infinite energy and now he has an unbalanced tranformation.

    • @Kal824
      @Kal824 Před 7 měsíci +20

      I've been thinking about this as well. Geekdom said, in order to analyze SSJ3, we have to look at 2. During Goku and Gohan's training in the Time Room, He figured out how to utilize the SSJ form while being and maintaining that form... But you have to consider, they're training is in an atmosphere where the rules are different than Earth's or Namek's. Goku, training in the afterlife, in a completely different physical plain where the rules of Stamina, energy, and even pain don't apply to the physical realm.
      Geekdom mentioned that SSJ3 is a stamina guzzler. And he may be right that Goku may have not had much time with that form, but, if we consider Goten and Trunks fused as Gotenks learned SSJ3, it didn't have the same totality as with Goku. We only understood that it consumes massive energy to maintain. With Goku, his stamina/energy was tied to his time on Earth, and was hastened and cut his time on Earth, as he was not even there for the full 24hrs. And with Gotenks, it was their Fusion that was shortened from 30 mins to less.
      I believe that the kind of atmosphere they were in played a huge role as to how and why they were able to achieve SSJ3, and plays a role as to how long they can maintain it. And this is something I never hear anyone talk about.

    I can’t remember if you mentioned it, but another piece of evidence that Goku may have unlocked SSJ 3 right before his day pass is that in Resurrection F, he was possibly able to recognize the immense stamina drain of Golden Frieza, due to his personal experience of unlocking a new form and being unprepared for the stamina cost shortly thereafter.

    SS3 seems to share a lot of similarities with grade 2-3. It’s a big increase in power with an obvious physical change in appearance but with a significant draw back. For grade 2-3 (more so 3) that draw back was sacrificing power for a drastic reduction in speed and stamina. SS3 has drastic increases in speed and power with a massive reduction in stamina. I view SS3 as just being SS2 grade 2.

    • @danielhenry4365
      @danielhenry4365 Před 7 měsíci +9

      I ilke the "Ascended" SS2 idea.
      I always saw the Ascended states like this:
      SS1 Grade 2 is a tiny "preview" of SS2's whole package. (Increase of power/speed but moderate decrease of stamina).
      SS1 Grade 3 is also a preview of SS2, but a full scope preview of SS2's Power only. (Giant increase of power, but giant decrease of speed AND stamina).
      So yes I kind of believe that Grade 3 aka Ultra SS gives you access to SS2's Power only, but with such decrease of speed (and stamina), how can you land that SS2 missile without a properly optimized targeting system?
      SS2 = the true evolution of SS1. (Giant increase of Power and Speed, with maybe only minimal-moderate stamina drain similar to SS1 unmastered).

  •  Před 7 měsíci +17

    I had a theory when I was a child about Super Saiyan 3. There were only two that achieved this transformation and both were in another dimension. Goku was in the Otherworld and Gotenks was in the Time chamber. Also, both had the issue that this transformation eats their stamina. I had the idea that this transformation can only be achieved in a realm that doesn't obbey the laws of physics or logic of our universe. More than a upgrade to the SSJ2, it's more like "an aberration", similar of what SSJ4 became afterwards.

    Yeah, I think the theory of Goku figuring out the SSJ3 form shortly before the end of the 7 year time skip makes a lot of sense. As for when Goku achieved SSJ2, he probably did it within the first year of the timeskip & kept honing it as time went on. To the point where his SSJ2 was way stronger than SSJ2 Gohan against Cell, which Vegeta points this out in his match with Goku.

    I like to think that Goku pushed himself to ss3 so that one day he could fight Gohan just like his Grandpa fought him years ago. One final fight to remind him to keep learning, to rest well and push his limits. If Gohan had continued his training during the 7 year time skip, he’d be significantly stronger than Goku, but ss3 would still be Goku’s only way to hold out against his son.
    I have a feeling it took Goku no less than 5 years to reach the form, but gotenks reached it in two weeks. Gotenks mastered ss2 and worked his way up to ss3 in less than a month. Imagine how powerful he’d be if the boys had a full year to train.

    When adding that in with everything you talked about, perhaps he meditated and found that "energy deep inside" and tried to apply it to his SSJ2, which gave us SSJ3.

    My theory is Goku started applying the principles of the grades to SSJ2. Trying to achieve this middle grounds and hopefully achieve a form of grade four. In the midst of pushing grade three, That which sacrificed speed for power. He achieved on accident. A form that takes this to the nth degree. In affect the very statement you alluded to. The concept of Kaioken with super Saiyan without actually using Kaioken to maximize power for brief stints.

      to be honest i think it's intentionally meant to be unexplained as to how goku discovered ssj3. remember way back right after vegeta vs android 18 when goku visited vegeta at that rock where vegeta cried in the rain?
      _somehow_ they both independently came to the conclusion that there was a form above SSJ1. it's never really explained how they both miraculously discovered this. i think basically the same thing happened here. when goku unlocked super saiyan 2 at some point between cell and buu, he somehow sensed there was a form above it.
      i am somewhat confused as to why vegeta never considered any form above regular ssj2 during the years between cell and buu. given that he did actually sense the existence of higher forms above ssj1 even before goku talked to him about it.
      goku has always been better at discovering forms than vegeta though. in terms of training, goku is an innovator whereas vegeta is a grinder. notice how he never stops torturing himself in the gravity chamber, and he even went back into the time chamber when goku decided to rest.
      on the other hand, goku discovered ssj1 first. goku discovered the perfected super saiyan grade 4 first. goku was probably the first one to actually imagine the true ssj2 (whereas vegeta thought the best they could do was ssj1 grade 2, trunks thought the best was grade 3, and gohan had literally no idea tf he was doing--gohan only got ssj2 because he did exactly what goku told him to do and gohan was the only one strong enough at the time for goku's theories and instructions to actually succeed in unlocking ssj2). so yeah goku was always more of an innovator whereas vegeta mainly focused on increasing his raw power through incredibly hard training.

    I think Geekdom is definitely in the ball park with his theory. My only thing is training, eating, and fighting strong opponents is heaven for Goku. So I can conclude the only motivation for a anger breakthrough would have to be the resentment of his own limits. He would then tell himself he hasn't hit the wall, its not impossible and that he can push to the next level. Its very Goku like and when he was teaching Goten and Trunks it sounded a lot like that was the key 🔐. Pushing beyond the wall to the next level and not being stuck.😏

    My "yeah that's kinda out there" head-canon explanation for Goku unlocking SS3:
    First, filler or not, I'm gonna canon-ize Goku's SS1 Kaioken form displayed against Pikkon in that Other World tourney.
    I think Goku realizing that with a dead body and so much free time, he continued experimenting with stacking SS and Kaioken.
    ... to the point of being semi-comfortable with SS2 + Kaioken x4 (Which totals a 400x multiplier, same as SS3).
    He spent so much time and effort forcing and remaining in that form, that eventually his body "accidentally" mutated into an SS form (SS3) to compensate for that ridiculous over-strenuous overclocking from stacking the 2 to that degree so often.
    Now, with SS3 he now has access to that same level of power/multiplier, and of course is still ultra-strenuous, but somehow nowhere near as strenuous as SS2 + KK (let alone KKx4).
    Yes, it's an insane theory and most likely false to oblivion - but I'm here to have fun with these discussions, aren't ya'll?? Plus, we see later on in DBS that once again he's stacking them again, but this time with SSB + KK.
    ... As for Gotenks achieving SS3. Well, that boy is a fusion of two 2nd-gen Saiyan-human hybrid prodigies - what do you expect??
    At the end of the day, I would much rather have DBS F. Trunks' Mastered SS2 form that basically rivaled Goku's SS3!

      @@SAsaiyajin That's easy to SAY but here's the thing about that: Goku's ok with a loss here or there - but he's never found himself forever chasing someone's shadow, trying to catch up for decades, only to still be one step behind. I think one of the most interesting story arcs Dragonball could take would be for Vegeta to outright surpass Goku in every way - to be clearly, unambiguously stronger than him and beat him badly in battle - and to STAY ahead for a good chunk of time. Imagine what that would do to their dynamic. Vegeta suddenly has achieved what he's been after all these years - not just surpassing Goku for a little bit - he's done that before - but for a LONG time and by a massive margin that Goku cannot seem to bridge no matter how hard he trains.
      I think that'd be super interesting because you'd get to explore what happens to a guy like Vegeta when he has nothing left to chase - he's not DRIVEN to simply be better than himself or fight just for fun - he is driven to be the best, the strongest - it's everything to him. If he ACHIEVES that....what next? Perhaps he loses all interest in fighting.
      For GOKU's part, I do think it would get to him. It would have to. Goku DOES have an arrogant, cocky side- we see it at times like when Goku comes out of the time chamber and basically says "I know keeping up with me is important to you so go on in, you'll need all the training you can get" before flat out stating he's stronger. He definitely has some of that saiyan arrogance in him and in fact Whis points out that Goku's arrogance is an issue for him in that it leaves him open too much.
      WHy is Goku arrogant? Because he's very very used to WINNING or at least knowing that if he trains hard he CAN eventually win.
      But what if Vegeta, this guy he viewed as as a bit of a non-threat, leaves him in the dust? At first he'd go "oh! Great Vegeta! I'll catch up soon!" - but then if he trains like mad and finds that Vegeta pulls even further ahead, he DOES how frustration and anger when he's been humiliated before. He is capable of being butthurt. What if a year or two pass and the gap keeps widening? He HAS to feel that one. Somewhere inside, Goku has saiyan pride - and he doesn't like to lose. He is optimistic and enthusiastic because life taught him that all he has to do is apply himself and he can surmount any obstacle. If presented with something he CAN'T get past, it may well get to him after a while.

      @@kalevipoeg6916 Goku has always been cocky😅, haven't you watched early Dragon Ball?
      Its his cockiness and innocent immaturity. Only thing Super did wrong with Goku is playing a bit too much on his immaturity which was a bit out of character based on Z and even him as a Kid.
      Vegeta is also more family orientated than Goku is which is ironic. Much more responsible character outside of training and fighting. Goku doesnt know any better than doing how he was raised to maintain his lifestyle.

    The thing about SSJ3 is that it puts way too much strain on the body. Even if you somehow got used to the form. It's basically a natural drawback that comes with it.
    But I think what motivated goku to reach that form, was gohan. He's proud that gohan surpassed him. But a part of him wants to reach even greater heights. And he problably wanted to fight gohan at the tournament. To see how far both of them have gotten. As a final send off.
    Kinda like how grandpa gohan did for him, back in dragon ball. But buu saga happened. So change of plans.

    I wish we could have got a side story anime chronicling Goku's 7 years in the underworld. It would be a nice change of pace, because he wouldn't have anything higher than Super Saiyan 3 and we could have seen how he actually developed it.
    Plus, because we have seen so little of that place it could recapture some of that adventurous feel from original DragonBall. Maybe he met up with Raditz during that time, there are tons of possibilities!
    Instead we are getting DragonBall Magic...

    Attempts to surpass super saiyan led to various results and potential transformations. Same steps applied while in ssj2 leads to more results. They may not have known there was something beyond but were up for experimenting or felt a deeper power. Now we are getting spin offs to other things like beast Gohan. Transformation development apply to more than just saiyans as Frieza can adjust out even the colors when he said that he picked gold. You could go as far as saying ssj3 isn't complete and more like full powered which is why its not great and heavily taxing.

    I love that you brought this topic up and like everything you went into here. I just would like to express an idea about a repeating theme that i experienced that dates back to the dragon ball times. it was clear to me when Goku first fought the original demon king Piccolo. Piccolo tried to get at Goku that they where the same, and goku made a clear distinction of there difference, in and some ways more then Piccolo, and in the saying monkey see monkey do. He learns from his enemies and become greater or more. thats we see as far back as when goku first tried the Kamehameha. the next time that showed insight to these transformations is cell and Gohan. in some light Cell can be seen as all of the 'Karma" of his ancestors. Gohan battled his based, the strongest Dna the universe had up till Gohan himself. and it makes sense that gohan would lead that transformation, and maybe thats why goku new it had to be Gohan, because cell was everyone else and more. what this was revealing is that the enemy also brought a new level to for them to transcend within themself. Buu is the personification of the pure raw evil or chaos within the universe, and thus in reflection Goku. goku vs Frieza is master of self, vs Cell is master of your generation or your time line, vs Buu is master of the universal self, hence why God and its transformational story arch follows. thanks again for putting this together, just felt like sharing this perspective to on it.

    One thing that I find interesting is that the main saiyan transformations seem to be natural and inherent to the species and are "unlocked" seemingly by being within a certain range of power and being in an extreme emotional sitiuation. But then we've got characters like Frieza who specifically created his transformations. I find it interesting that the saiyans are always trying to unlock a new level of power but have never thought to specifically create one.

    Nice video as always. A few things though. The body works differently when being dead. You touched upon with the energy drain of SSJ 3 but (and this all is all from English dubbed anime):1. In the Saiyan saga, King Kai says to Goku that the time he would spend training on his planet (6 months?) would equal several thousand years on Earth. This is all from memory so I could be wrong. Nevertheless, it was never specified that the gravity on the Grand Kai his planet was also 10x that of Earth but Goku indeed trained all this time under King Kai. I think training dead + his own knowledge + King Kai’s help made him above Vegeta in SSJ 2. Also Goku had Spirit control training under the Yardrats, so he was more polished than Vegeta and could sense more (he sensed Majin Buu before Vegeta did during their fight, and later in DBS sensed Frieza while doing chores/training with Vegeta on Beerus‘s planet for the first time. Also, (and this is also from the English dubbed anime) Goku said to Vegeta during their fight that he has been through the most intense training on Otherworld … but it looks that Vegeta even want harder, to which Vegeta said that might be true. Also, when Vegeta said to Gohan (before the tournament) that while Gohan went on dates and to the library, he did nothing but severe training the entire time. Bulma vouched for that. So family life didn’t gave Vegeta soft knees when it came to training.

    I think he was honestly overwhelmed with power and achieved a greater height through meditation and accidentally came across the tipping point because of the Kai boosting power of a dead body. Before he went to the other world Goku mastered being SS all the time I can imagine he could have easily sustained ss2 😅 and got curious how to get stronger than Gohan as soon he died. I love this Robert stack style. It also makes sense why he goes false SS when he decides to power up against the Ginyu Force IMO. So in point being dead is why he could achieve a mastery overt SS because as soon as he came to earth and also alive on two occasions he was not able to do anything. Lol comedy GOLD.

    The more than I watch videos explaining on SSJ3, the more I think that Goku's initial SSJ3 transformation was like ssj2.75 because of the greater power vs. stamina compensation, which was somewhat comparable with ssj grade 3. The form was there, but the stamina and power retention weren't perfected. I felt that he had improved ssj3 when he first met Beerus.
