    You are correct about Beach Businesses and Beach Towns in general down this way. There are only 3 busy times for our nearby Beaches . Easter , Christmas and "Mexican Vacation Time." (July and first part of August) All the rest of the year it is beautiful in quiet empty splendor. We are Gulf Coast , so no big white sandy beaches, but most have coconut palms almost to the water and it looks like a postcard but no one there. We love it. 25 minutes from home and I am at the beach !

      That sounds lovely.
      We are stoked when we find those remote spots with nobody and nothing around, but it feels a little weird to us when we are staying in these beach side towns that are all set up for tourism, but we're the only nonlocals there.

      @@TheTravelingTogetherJournal we intend on giving ourselves 6 months to up to almost 2 years of traveling depending on how everything goes. How long were you and matt on the road for?

    • @TheTravelingTogetherJournal
      @TheTravelingTogetherJournal  Před 5 lety +2

      It ended up being around 21 months. It took us 1 year to get to Panama, 6 months to get back to the USA, then a couple months cruising South West USA and back into Baja.
      It's nice that you have the 2 years available so you don't need to be in a rush. There are so many awesome places, you could spend a life time exploring.

    Do you guys have "Spanish Class CD's to listen while on the road?

    • @TheTravelingTogetherJournal
      @TheTravelingTogetherJournal  Před 5 lety +1

      no. we did a computer program to try to improve before the trip. Since starting the trip we used a book to help with basic grammar and Amie makes flashcards to help with our vocabulary. We also did 2 weeks of spanish school at lake atitlan ( czcams.com/video/3YYq8U1XhEQ/video.html ) but to be honest, it's a struggle for us. Each region that we go to has a different dialect, so we spend a lot of time relearning how to say the same things we thought we already knew how to say.

  • @prime8nate

    I was in Antigua and Xela for a couple months and asked about visiting the beach but it just didn’t seem to be a real destination for Guatemalans. The attitude was “why would you want to go there” and “they don’t have nice sand like in Mexico”. Tikal or Atitlan seemed like popular places to visit but not the beach.

    • @TheTravelingTogetherJournal
      @TheTravelingTogetherJournal  Před 3 lety +1

      Definitely not the country most people go to for a beach vacation, but national holidays see lots of people from Guatemala City and Antigua and other cities coming down to the beach.

    Fun stuff. Do you find the rough roads may cause you more repairs on your vehicle than less rough terrain.? What tires are you using?

    • @mwilliamshs
      @mwilliamshs Před 5 lety +2

      They use BF Goodrich Radial All-Terrain KO tires. They had wheel bearing issues a couple episodes back due to rough terrain travel.

      We are using BFG all-terrain KO2 tires. I have been quite happy with them. A good quality All-terrain with strong sidewalls is definitely recommended.
      The rough roads do cause extra abuse to the vehicle, but it's well worth the adventure for us
