- Runaway Mine Train is a classic Mack Rides powered coaster, taking guests on a thrilling journey around Katanga Canyon. Originally opening in 1992 as part of the ambitious park expansion plans by the Tussauds Group, the ride was designed by John Wardley and runs alongside the Congo River Rapids, even sharing a tunnel where guests can wave at each other. Choo choo!

someone who was on the same train as us had their birthday that day, so we went round 7 times! the people queueing were fuming and my thighs felt like jelly
the rough bit in the tunnel caught me off-guard for a family coaster.

Defo runs a lot slower than it used to since the incident they had on it a few years back. The train separated in the tunnel, but they said it was down to stress on the last bend into the tunnel. The ride now runs about 25% slower than it did.
Love it, even more love the Choo Choo at the end 😂

If you go when it's quiet they can send it round a few more times. I've been round 4 times in one go before on it.

Took my daughter on this when height restriction was 90cm for her third birthday last year , they’ve now changed it to minimum 1.1 m height and we’ve booked Alton towers again this year but she can’t go on it 😢 she absolutely loved it as well !
Yess i haven't found a good pov of the runaway mine train yet but this is it
It hits quite hard on that turn going into the tunnel for what is a family coaster. I see they have trimmed the trees right back on the helixs. Back 20 years ago we used to see how many leaves we could grab off the tree branches on the part of the ride. Its quite a good little ride and well themed but i feel it could have been longer since its a powered coaster and does not rely on height. Rather than turn back into the station after the tunnel it could have crossed the rapids and into the woods near where the flume used to run before heading back to the station.

Wow, this one actually has a longer train than the other Mack powered coasters. 12 cars/46 people.
I somehow have a soft spot for custom powered coasters, it's not like for standard zamperla powered coasters like speedi 64 (only zpc that i know), this is a custom layout by mack with some theming and the interaction with the park's river rapids, very well done ride of a kiddie/family coaster 👍

Went on this a few days ago with a couple friends, was quality just shouting choo choo at everyone
Guys I’m not even kidding I hate roller coasters and thought this would be a good start. The POVs are nothing like the actual coaster 😅. I was crapping myself on this one.
