  • Join Clint Murphy as he feeds our juvenile Barn Owl.
    This owl is the lone survivor of a clutch from a local barn.
    At some future date, the owl will be named and become one of our program animals.

    I may be anthropomorphizing, but at about 2:02 in the video, I see signs of contentment and replete satisfaction on that bird's face.

    He looks like Simone pretending to look like they’re going to throw up! I know he’s swallowing the mouse whole but it does look like a person doing that

    Sir,i have a question,can i give a chicken fillet for my baby barn owl?

    • @bearhollowzoo

      That's a great question!
      *Short answer:* It might be okay for short term, but owls need a more complete diet than just chicken fillets cut into small-enough strips. Talk to your closest Department of Natural Resources Rehabilitator or "DNR Rehabber" to learn more. Each state generally keeps a list of local rehabbers online. Check the resources on your state's DNR website. If you can't find the resource list, call your local DNR office.
      *Long answer:* *Leave any barn owl chick where you found it and observe from a distance.* Sooner or later, one or both of the parents will be back to claim it. If the owl parents don't appear and the owl chick or chicks are left long unattended (twenty-four hours), it may be time to bring your owl chick to a licensed rehabber.
      It is illegal in the United States to keep an owl _unless_ you have been licensed by the Department of Natural Resources to rehabilitate wild-life for release back into the wild.

    What's that plush toy for? :O

    • @bearhollowzoo
      @bearhollowzoo  Před 7 lety +14

      The plush toy owl acts as a surrogate friend for the baby owl. The other baby owls from the clutch did not survive. Thanks for visiting!
