The 2024 NHL Draft Lottery is now over, and we now know the San Jose Sharks will get the 1st overall pick, and will likely select Macklin Celebrini!

No way Buium falls to 14. I would 100% take it as a sharks fan, but I do not see him dropping that far at all.
I'd be very surprised if the Wild didn't take him. If I were the Sharks and were interested in him in that range, I'd give Philly or Buffalo a call if he falls to 11 or 12. See what it takes to jump a couple of spots. It might be too expensive, but you still have to try if he's your guy.
I think it's between SJS and MIN honestly, I love Buium but I see teams potentially getting scared about his physicality, like they did with Lane Hutson
@@GravitehHockey Yeah skill wise might be the best D in the draft, but considering the other options and needs I agree and think he drops.
@@GravitehHockey Very true. I think so many teams needing a RHD knocks him down a bit as well, on top of the lack of physicality. I think Minnesota would love to have a guy like him on their blue line (a much higher floor and ceiling version of what they were hoping for out of Calen Addison) and wouldn't be surprised if they're more on the hunt for a dynamic defenseman over bolstering their forward group.
@@seancosgrove1 Yea I think those are the only realistic trades they're going to be able to make and would probably require an overpay. I'm curious with the who's available in the early second round, if Grier & co will be going for quality or quantity, which would impact how much they're willing to give up in order to move up to 11 or 12. I'm excited to see what happens!
San Jose getting Celebrini and Buium has been my dream for the past 6 months

Buium won't be there when San Jose takes the fourteenth pick...unless they trade up. It would probably take a lot considering the potential top line talent starts thinning out after the eleventh or twelfth pick. Sharks need depth moving forward and their pick at 14 can land them a solid future middle four or six player.
Highly doubt Buium is there. But the way prospect lists keep shuffling I could see someone really good landing in that spot.

@@AnaheimRob I disagree, I think the Sharks have plenty of depth pieces, we need more top end prospects, especially on defense. And yeah, Buium more likely than not isn’t there at 14, but if he’s still there at 8/9, I’d love to trade up to take him. One can dream lol

Demidov just makes PERFECT sense, him with Bedard would be MONEY.
I feel like they need Levshunov just as much. He could be a legit top right dman who can play with korchinski. I think it’s important to build defense early in a Rebuild.

Absolutely. I'm still super happy with him. It's almost a good thing he will need to take a year in Russia because the rest of our prospects won't be ready until 2025 anyway so there's no rush to get him here.

Tij being 5th is a reach with his spot, but I do think he'll be a bit of a gem if he develops well. BUT part of me would love to see him end up 9th overall, like he is currently ranked, and end up going with his father's team. It just would be poetic.

David Edstrom was traded to the Sharks as part of the Hertl trade.
They've traded 1000 prospects over the last 5 years it's hard to remember HAHA
I think the Ducks go D like Levshunov as well even though they're kinda known for their current D prospect pool. A larger right hand D man w a physical edge is something they (and most nhl teams) need. Pretty much all their potential D men are more finese offensive players. Plus w Cutter coming in and a decent offensive free agent pool available, their offense could see a big jump up this year as is.

As much as I'd love for the Ducks to take some of these exciting forwards (Lindstrom/Eiserman/Catton/Iginla/MBN), I think you're right going for a highly valued RHD. Levshunov isn't like any of their current D prospects, solid on both sides of the ice w/ good size. The Cutter Gauthier acquisition really gives them some flexibility to draft D in first round, plus Ducks likely grab a UFA in offseason to fill in the forward ranks anyway.
Might we see a trade down with the 3OA pick? Possible, and might allow them to take a mix of 3 total forwards/defencemen in the first round.
@@steveyb1901Minty showed flashes of a brilliant two way game last year before he suffered his injuries, he’s gonna be that all around horse on the back end for Anaheim and Zellweger is far from a slouch on defense himself
I wouldn’t be upset if the Habs leave the draft with Iginla… but I’d be pretty bummed if we don’t get Demidov or Lindstrom

I know Anaheim fans would have loved to get first overall for once, but to be honest they have so many massively talented centers already it isn't the end of the world not getting Celebrini. They will either pick a big Defenseman or Lindstrom. Size and skill, the Verbeek way!.. Oh, and very happy for Sharks fans! Congrats! Celebrini is going to be a future 100 point per season player! You guys needed that in a big way! Now the Sharks/Ducks rivalry can start up again in a few years! It has been missed. Hating on the Kings only gets kind of boring. Need another CA team to throw shade at, but it's only fun when they are good. Also, thankful Chicago didn't first overall. Nobody wanted that!

I honestly think the devils will pick Eiserman if he's still available with the 10th overall pick. They were talking about him on locked on devils and the team he played with from 2020 to 2022 is considered the Hartford of hockey schools
My dream scenario would be the Sharks coming away with Celebrini and Buium. I was hoping they’d trade up to get him, but if he falls to #14 we’re laughing!
As long as my hawks get Dem or Lev I’ll be happy but I lean a bit toward Lev for so our top 4 defense going forward would be fantastic.

I'll be surprised if NJ holds onto that #10 pick. I think it's much more likely that they use it in a trade to acquire a needed piece like a goalie or defenseman (or Brady Tkachuk, as some wild rumors are speculating).

I'd be so happy if the Flyers got Eiserman. They need guys who can make plays and/or score goals. They can find the two-way guys with less difficulty during the rebuild.
if you think Tij Iginla is the habs pick, I would expect a trade from them. The Athletic for example has them trading down with the Flames and taking Iginla at 9. I don't think that would happen but I do think if Lindstrom and Demidov are both gone at 5, its very likely Montreal moves down.

If we somehow got Buium with the 14th pick I would be absolutely stoked. Buium is by far the best defenseman in this draft despite the lack of elite size. Buium and Celebrini would mean we get the top 2 players in the draft lol
I do think Anaheim goes for a blueliner as well. Levshunov would be a great pick seeing they traded Drysdale for Gauthier. The Ducks do need a right handed shot and he is the best in this draft, but they also need a supreme shut down guy. Anaheim has plenty of offensive upside with their D prospects so adding a monster like Silayev would do wonders for their overall defensive play.
As a Ducks fan, I agree Lev is the most likely pick. Fills a big need on the right side. That said, it's the Ducks. They continually shock everyone with their picks.
Sharks will need to package up some later draft picks and move UP to get Buium around 8/9. Buium is a wonderful fit in SJ, another rebuild accelerator type of guy
The one scenario that scares the crap out of me as a CBJ fan is the one in which they locked in on Mark Hunter in February, never bothered or will bother to talk to Darche, Tulsky, (see if MacFarland could be enticed by a POHO/GM promotion), etc. and he drafts Sam Dickinson. Not that Dickinson isn't a capable, promising kid, but for me it's a reach at 4 and duplicates a lot of what Denton Mateychuk already does.
Flyers getting Eiserman would be huge for them they need a goal scorer.

Sens fan : rather go LD than a RD who doesnt play defence (ie everyone saying they should pick parekh). I agree with yakemchuk given Iginla, Lindstrom, Levshunov, and Silayev were all taken, but this pick should just be BPA between Catton, Yakemchuk, Dickinson, Eiserman or Buium. If they think the best pick is LD, trade both chabot and chychrun

If I'm the Devils (looking at their needs and drafting philosophy), I'd see it: Demidov > Lindstrom > Silayev > Eiserman > Catton > Iginla > Dickinson > Freij > Nygard.
As a Sharks fan, these are my dream picks. That said if Buium drops out of the top 10 I would start making calls to move up and grab him.

I would love Parekh at 8th or Buium for Seattle BPA and Dman both (what we need in our pool) if both are not available take a shot at Catton or Iginla (if both are not out)
I can see Seattle picking Buium if Parekh is out early for being RHD. Lot of Kraken fans want Zeev too.
Although a lot of these make sense, and I think there is a good chance the Sabres trade this pick (perhaps in a package) for a veteran player (forward), there's no way the Sabres pass on Eiserman - a physical forward (which they desperately need) who already has good size - for a major long term project in Jiricek. This team needs to win sooner rather than later. It would make zero sense to go for a project when they need players who can play asap. Hence, many pundits are suggesting trading the pick. They already have a ton of "long term projects" in the pipeline. They need players asap. Not 3-4 years down the road. And players who can bring an attitude and physicality to the team. They have no one like that.
I'd be very happy with Eiserman slipping to the Flyers. Lack of finishers (especially on the PP) is what killed our season and Eiserman is a finisher

@@AstralScourge I agree, I personally think that the Sharks have their 1 2 punch for years to come. A starting lineup of Celebrini, Smith, Eklund, Graf, Zetterlund, Thrun, and Muk- plus others in junior leagues like Haltunen, Musty, and more. I think the Sharks future is looking the best it has in a looong time.

Grier has taken a lot of heat. I was one of them. All the heat started in the 22 draft when he traded out of the 11 spot when guys like Lambert and Lekkerimaki were still on the board. Then at pick 27 Lambert was still available and he passed on him for Bystedt, a player who is projected to be a 3rd line guy.
Then the majority of the heat started coming when he traded Burns for a bag of chips. Retained all the money and got nothing in return for a player who was still playing at an elite level. He is still playing amazing for his age and there is zero reason why we couldn’t get a late first for him, at the very least.
Then the Meier trade came. It felt really underwhelming at the time, especially since the 2024 pick had a condition attached to it. It appeared at the time that he was going for quantity over quality.
The Karlsson trade felt just as bad considering we only got one first round pick after the season he had. I think the return could have been much greater had the Sharks retained more money. I think that decision came from Hasso though. Mike’s hands were tied.
In hindsight all the moves seem to have paid off and are looking like good moves, aside from the Burns deal and the 2022 draft. Seemed like he cared more about doing right by Burns than getting a significant return. I get why he did it. He wanted to set a good foundation for the type of culture he is trying to establish. The Meier trade is now looking like a major win with the players we got in return. The Karlsson pick turned into pick 14, and Granlund is looking like a player we can potentially flip for another 1st. So all in all Grier has made a believer out of me. I think he has earned that trust, and sometimes you just have to wait things out. Life has a way of balancing itself out.
@@kialbonetti1997 Awesome stuff man! I think the Burns deal was rough too, but I think Burns really wanted out. Also remember that Grier was hired just a few weeks before the draft, so the 2022 draft really wasn’t *his* draft. It was the previous scouting team’s. I think trading down worked out okay, but it definitely wasn’t my favorite to go for quantity instead of quality. But hey, Bysted looks like he’ll turn out well.
Ever since Grier has made some brilliant moves, and has my full support. I don’t think fans realize how good that Hertl trade was for the Sharks. Not only did we get stuff in return, but we’ve handcuffed the Knights to a 30 year old player with injury history with 6 years left on his contract. Hertl is one of my favorites, but I think in a year or two we will look like major winners.
The NJ Devils have a team of short track speed skaters. What they need is a physical player. Someone who will go into the corners and dig out pucks. Konsta Helenius fits that bill much better than Catton.

100% they go that route if Demidov and Lindstrom are not there. They love those late risers with big body with more potential to unlock like they did with Slaf and Reinbacher back to back draft years. He will be the pick and fans will be mad but that's just how MTL do their thing I learned my lesson after 2 years of being shocked haha!
Might aswell trade your pick than to drop lower in the rankings and pick up a prospect.

There is talk Buffalo might trade their first rounder but if they keep it Jiricek wouldn't be a bad option as they don't need immediate help the prospects are stacked in Buffalo especially up front and with Sammy Dahls Owen and Bo no need to rush a young D man into the lineup. Although I'd prefer to see sabres take a shot at Eiserman. or take Helenius or Berkly Catton
Capitals might take Hage at 17, desperate for a center. Given the need for a long-term PP quarterback solution given Carlson’s age, I wouldn’t mind springing for Hutson. Overreach for sure, but he won’t be there in the second round.
