  • In this design I created a nice inlay for an earring and using the kerf got a really nice fit. Then used the "waste" from the cut out to create a second pair of earrings from the same job. Two for the price of one. Lot of fun to technique to create you very own custom creation.
    If you haven't watched the first video designing the basic shape, you should watch it first. Here's the link: • Hobo designs earrings ...
    I used www.lovesvg.com to get the turtle.
    Don't forget to vote on which haircut I get IF I hit 1000 subscribers by Halloween 2022.

    This is the first video that I have found that has information on the kerf off set. Thank you so much!😁🛫

      This was my first attempt to try and understand it. Not sure how accurate this video was regarding how it works in Lightburn. It's been a while since I made this one. I need to make a follow-up. This is good. Now I've got a subject for this week's video. There is so much more to kerf than I discussed in this video.

    *Great Video Steve* (except when the music scared the he!! out of me!) - Try using Starbond THIN CA glue. Assemble the pieces and apply to the crack on the back and it soaks into it. Very fast and easy!

      Thanks for the tip! I'm going have to use your code and order some. This was one of my earlier videos. The music did come on sudden and strong. I jumped myself when rewatching this. Don't do that much anymore with the music. When I do, it usually only on time lapse and I'm more mindful of the volume.

    Thank you, great information all the way to the end. Getting ready to try my first design.

    Love it you should have engraved both sides of turtle by using a jig of earring from the board. Looks great good idea I like it.

      Too much time and trouble. Selling for $25/pair. Double engraving wouldn't double the retail value. It would look nice. But not practical.

      No. Thank you for watching. I've only been doing this for two months now. So, my explanations on most of my work is a bit "elementary", cause I don't know no better. I agree, a lot of the videos out there are challenging to grasp sometimes. I may not always be right about some of the things I do or say, but it's the way I understand it at the time with no previous knowledge of lasers or LightBurn prior to this past June. I try to make videos anytime I learn something new. So if you haven't already, please subscribe it will help me out immensely. Thanks again.

      Glad you liked it! Be sure and subscribe. I am working on three new project designs. They are all boxes. But will have and insert like the turtle in this video. The second will have an actual inlay. And the third will have a accent piece attached to the surface. Three different techniques. Three different final looks. And three huge prices variations on the final product for sale.

      After cracking 5 lenses including one laser module, I've learned to stick with cutting and engraving wood. It works great for that. But, only four months in and my laser module is toast. It was from a day of engraving white coated ceramic tiles. Stick with wood. I plan to from here on out.

    Good video. How do you sand after you put together - kind of small and hard to hold. Did you do video on the black cats I saw in the video before this one. Interested in doing some acrylic type jewelry.

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  Před rokem +1

      For the really small pieces, I recommend when cutting them out, cut out a circle around the design to be used as an inlay. Large enough that it's comfortable to hold. When time to sand I lay the sandpaper flat on the worktable. Then place the cutout back in the circle that it was cut from. Then simply rub it back and forth on the stationary paper. You create more waste this way, but it works. Another tip is to pre-sand. Prep the wood for finishing before cutting. Then minimal sanding is required. These are the things I do. Hopefully they are helpful tips. But like I've said multiple times...I don't know what I'm doing.

    Another great video. Where do you get your wood? I have the tools to make stock lumber to thin lumber but would like to just buy it ready to go. Thanks again.

      Hi Steve.
      Thanks for watching. I got this wood from a local craftsman that saves me all his culls and waste. I get it for free. Gotta love it. But there is a store opening soon the Charlotte, NC market I can't wait to visit in person. Rockler. They are online. www.rockler.com They are 1/8" thick hardwoods in various types, lengths and widths. Thanks again for watching.

    Are using plywood or solid? If solid. Where would I find that?

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  Před 9 měsíci

      This was solid Walnut and Maple, I believe. This as materail I acquired from a local craftsman's workshop. They were his remnants from different projects. I have not purchased and 1/8" hardwoods. I will warn you. When working with solid wood that thin, it is easy to split or cleave along the grain. I only use it when I am doing inlays now.
