Canton of Fribourg
The canton of Fribourg, also canton of Freiburg is located in western Switzerland. The canton is bilingual, with French spoken by two thirds of the citizens and German by about one third. Both are official languages in the canton. The canton takes its name from its capital city of Fribourg.
Gruyères
Gruyères is a town in the district of Gruyère in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The medieval town is an important tourist location in the upper valley of the Saane/Sarine river, and gives its name to Gruyère cheese. The medieval town is located at the top of 82 metre-high hill overlooking the Saane valley and the Lake of Gruyère.
The Castle of Gruyères
Château de Gruyères is located in the medieval town of Gruyères, Fribourg, is one of the most famous in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance.
Charmey
It's a former municipality in the district of Gruyère in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. On 1 January 2014 the former municipalities of Charmey and Cerniat merged into the new municipality of Val-de-Charmey.
Jaun
It's a municipality in the district of Gruyère in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It is the only German-speaking municipality in Gruyère. It's located in the Gruyère district, in the Jaun pass at an elevation of 1,027 m (3,369 ft). It consists of the linear village of Jaun and the hamlets of Im Fang (French: La Villette), Kappelboden, Weibelsried, Zur Eich and a number of scattered farm houses.
The Jaun Pass connects it with Boltigen in the canton of Bern.
Jaun Waterfall
The Jaun waterfall flows directly out of the rock, with no visible inflow. It is believed that the water from this karst spring comes from the Gros Mont region. The stream that sprang from there overcomes a cascade and flows into the Jaunbach after a few meters. Divers have advanced into the cave to a depth of approx. 300 m. The special thing about the underground inlet is that the water flows upwards from the depths. The divers dived down to 80 m. The strong current has prevented any progress so far.
