Your headlight model does not support D1S bulb type. It uses the H7 bulb instead. If the headlight comes with a projector, it uses the D1S but if it comes as a reflector like in this video, it uses the H7 bulb. Hope this clarifies for some people. You can't convert the H7 to a D1S.

What's the difference between a H7 bulb and an D1S? I'm trying to replace my headlight bulb for my 2011 328i and I can't figure out which bulb to get. The light is a bright white color and when I turn off my light it goes to the yellowish color. What I am trying to say is when I turn on my lights it turn to the bright white color. Please help. Thank you community.

I would guess it's a D1S bulb. The difference between H7 and D1S from factory is that the H7 is a halogen bulb and the D1S is an HID bulb. In simple terms, the HID bulb would change its color the first time it turns on as the xenon gas inside the bulb ignites and after a few seconds it becomes white. The H7 halogen, however, will only be yellow and it won't change its color. This is what you would expect from factory. Ofcourse, you may have a previous owner who may have changed the bulb to something different and of a different color. An easy way to know if it's an H7, you would be able to see the bulb looking at the headlight. You won't be able to see the D1S because it's inside a projector (a glass sphere that can tell your fortune). Hope this helps.

Nowadays, you have many options for the type of lighting bulb you can use: Halogen, HID, LED. I would recommend you try white LED from a reputable source with 60W per bulb or higher to get the best lighting possible. However, for D1S you want to use a 35W LED bulb to match the car's ballast power. You can find a D1S LED bulb that connects with the factory ballast connector for an easier upgrade.

How good are your Hid's at night? Mine are halogen projectors so hid's dont work as well as hologen refractors so I decided to just leave them as halogens.

Bad lighting ruins the video. I can’t clearly see nothing
