    NEVER use clay pots unless they are glazed inside and at the bottom. You can also use rainwater or reverse osmosis water too. The standard potting mix is 50:50 peat moss and perlite. 100% Long Fiber Sphagnum moss is also fine to use as soil, some people prefer it and add some perlite to it. I prefer peat/perlite as it's easier to remove during re-potting. It basically just falls off the roots. With LFSM you have to untangle it from the roots very carefully and you risk damaging them. It's a real pain in the butt quite frankly.

      I agree also. I used to use sphagnum and then had the problems with repotting so i switched to peatmoss.
      Clay pots are always a big no no and also hard to repot from haha should always be avoided

    Hello 8 I have a question sundews
    1.)How often do sundews need to eat?
    2.)Can you feed a sundew with an earthworm?
    3.)Can you feed sundews fish flakes?
    4.)What can you do with sundew flowers?
    5.)What can I feed my Drosera apart from worms
    6.)Can sundews eat crickets?
    7.) Are sundews self pollinating?
    8.) Can you put sundews in a Mini greenhouse -> What should you pay attention to when purchasing? 🤔
    a)Mini greenhouse with a heated bottom 37x23xh21cm - for germinating and rooting plants
    b.) Self-watering greenhouse / propagator 37.5x13.5xh16cm
    c.) Mini greenhouse with heated bottom + Self-watering 37.5x13.5xh16cm

    Wow, there actually are still people that put them in regular fertilized potting soil?
    The hardware stores that sell VFTs over here all have special (and rather expensive) carnivore soil mix sold right next to them.

      Not here haha. They are usually in the same section as the succulents so people often assume its the same care

    hi , Ahoj I'm new to the carnivorous plant scene help. I recently bought sundew seeds on Amazon. Drosera seeds 100 seeds (Mix)
    1.) Do filter jugs make sense?
    2.) Is sundew from a filter jug healthy?
    3.)What should you pay attention to when buying a filter jug?
    4) Which is better Dafi or BRITA?
    5) I was told that boiled and then cooled water is good for sundews. Can anyone confirm this?
    6) Should we hand feed them at some point? as the domes are closed at the seedling stage to maintain humidity, preventing insects from entering.
    7._Should we open the dome every few days to get some fresh air?
    8.)I would like to, I thought. catching rainwater. ?
    9.) I wish, I thought. catching snow water?sorry if my english is not good

    I have a question: can you still save them if they are in the dying process?! mine look so dull and cant close :( i really wish i can save them.

    • @OutdoorsAndBotanical
      @OutdoorsAndBotanical  Před 7 měsíci

      You might be able to if the crown (middle of the plant) is still green. If the whole plant is black and rotted probably not

    Hello! I am a beginner at growing flytraps and made the unfortunate mistake of not reading labels and gave my flytrap distilled water for babies that had vitamins like potassium, they started to die and the traps fell off but the stems are still green. I purchased a gallon of pure distilled water, can I save my flytraps? Will I need new Pete moss/soil?

    • @OutdoorsAndBotanical
      @OutdoorsAndBotanical  Před rokem +2

      Hey there! I would recommend repotting them. But in the meantime, water from the top with distilled water to flush out as many minerals as you can. That may be all it needs, but depending how bad it is, you may need to repot it

      @@OutdoorsAndBotanical Thank you! I’ve only used a gallon of distilled baby water.

      If it was used short term, I think thats not your problem. I accidentally mixed old sand that was used in my saltwater tank into some potting mix and it took about 2 months before it started to show affects, and after about 4 months things were almost dead b it I replanted and they recovered

      @@OutdoorsAndBotanicalThey don’t like water being poured on top of them. They prefer it poured into a tray then they drink that way.

      Not every time, but if they are struggling from nutrient rich water or there is nutrients in the media, you need to water from the top for a bit to flush the nutrients out of the media in order to prevent the plant from dying.
