Willsence vs. Fellow Stagg EKG - Which kettle should you buy?

- In this video I compare the Willsence Gooseneck Temperature Control kettle against the well known ultra premium Fellow Stagg EKG to try and figure out which gives you the most bang for your buck.

Great comparison. I've been using the Willsense (actually Aicook but same kettle) for over a year and it's held up very well with daily use. I had no idea the pour on the Stagg was so slow. This would be a deal breaker for me as gongfu steeps are often only a few seconds long.
Great video thanks for posting! I ordered the Fellow in blue, walnut yesterday because it is SO pretty!! The slow pour will be just fine for me if that's the only draw back :)) Love your page I'm a new tea fanatic and love your reviews.
Whoa, didn't know they had one in blue now. That thing is gorgeous! And yea, I find myself using the EKG most often since I'm usually using small pots or gaiwans. It just feels so much more premium and is obviously a joy to look at.

Really great compairson! I'm actually shopping for the purpose of pour-over coffee but hate unitaskers, so flow rate is a concern in both directions. I loved seeing the side by side times to fill a specific vessel. On that note - what timer do you use? Do you like it? I really like it's minimal aesthetic. Thanks for the great reveiw!
Another great kettle with similar features and full temperature adjustment that falls somewhere in between these two is the OXO gooseneck kettle. They normally retail for around $100 but I was able to get mine during a 4th of July sale for $60. It has good build quality and has been very reliable. It's spout design also seems to fall in the middle regarding pour speed. One day I'll spring for my own EKG but for now I am going to run the OXO until the tires fall off.

I purchased the Willsence G1 Elite. I'm liking so far but regret that I threw out the instructions... Watching hoping to learn how to properly use it. I'd like to keep it hot for at least 1/2 an hour.
I'm still using my 1 litre Bonavita gooseneck. Far from the most stilish, but it was under $60, and I've had it for almost two years without a problem. Only two complaints. The cord is SO short, and you can't use the timer if the pot is on the stand, so you have to hold a hot teapot or set it down somewhere. I actually got a second degree burn because I set it down on the ground, forgot it was there, and kicked it over.
Great video! The pour timing is definitely something I'm not a fan of on the Fellow. I was tempted to buy the Fellow Corvo, but because the Willsence is so much cheaper, I couldn't help but buy that instead. Hopefully the Willsence lasts long enough for the perfect gong-fu tea kettle to come on the market.
Two things I'll add from my use of the Willsence (keep in mind, it's only been a week or so):
1. When you place the kettle back on the base, there's definitely a bit of a wobble to it. It doesn't feel like it's loose or anything, just that it doesn't fit perfectly snug like some others.
2. I've had a few glitches with temperature holds. I think that it's due to not putting the kettle back on the base 100% perfectly.
EDIT:
The glitches continued to an insufferable level. I decided to return the kettle and buy The Fellow Corvo EKG kettle. The Corvo has a normal spout, so the slow pouring shown in this video does not apply. Very excited & I hope this info helps someone in making a decision.
Oh dang, that's too bad about the Willsence. I've never had that issue with mine, but I doubt QA is as top notch as Fellow's.
I think the Fellow kettle considered the ritual of coffee making, the meditative pour and the aesthetic of the kettle and overall ritual. So pouring faster isn’t part of that ritual.
I do not have a EKG but the Willsence I got only worked for 4 months. The User Manual printed beautifully: Willsence provides a two-year Product warranty from the date of purchase for all Willsence products. It turned out totally a different story when I call to report the kettle does not heat up. My claim processes took over one month with emails, and attachment of photos, videos etc. They do have a special way of "STAND BY THEIR BRAND"
Yea, product support is always a key factor, which I thankfully have never had to test with my kettles. I did actually end up giving the Willsence away to a friend while using the EKG full time just because the beauty and premium feel of the EKG bring me a lot of joy.
It looks like the lids are vented for both kettles, but I wonder if the Fellow would pour faster with the lid removed. Maybe it does not allow air in quickly enough to allow a fast pour if that is what you desire
Good thought, maybe slightly, but it's mostly just because of the narrowness of the spout.

I think I got it on Amazon. If you search "digital magnetic twist timer" a bunch will come up.

Yeaaah, imma stick with my stagg despite the slower pour time. It comes in pink. The oxo electric tea kettle with temperature control is also a good option, around $100. I used that for a few years.
Any comparisons on non goosenecks electric kettles?
I've only used one, but if I was going to buy one I'd probably get the Fellow Corvo EKG. It has all the same benefits as the Stagg, though less color options.
How has the Willsence held up? I just ordered it from Walmart and I doubt I'll be able to reach any semblance of customer service in case something breaks...this manufacturer seems shady lol.

Seems Wilsence isn't a real brand. Or at least it it's a strange un-findable brand. It's pots on Amazon were named something else prior to all the links being changed to Wilsence pots and the products looked the same but some color schemes and accents changed. Now i on Amazon there are no Wilsense branded anything. And googling the name brings up nothing but the amazon store with without any products. I'm skeptical about paying too much for a no name coffee pot. If the price was low enough i'd take a shot but it'd have to get low enough. This was on my wish list for a while so i noticed the brand name changes.
Yea, it's definitely changed names a few times on Amazon, definitely not a real brand. Would have been a good point for the video. Though I will say that I've tried a few of the other "no name" ones, and this was by far the best of the cheap ones.
This fellow is for pour over coffee. Try fellow for tea.
