Need lower gearing. True diff lock. Rad relocates and leak proof higher flow bigger snorkels. Big biting mud tires. The HL is a great overall machine. Rzr900 front diff and upgraded reverse chain makes them alot more durable long term. Missed watching yalls videos. Cant wait to see yall have some fun on that thing.

I am personally a Polaris guy. I have a 21 sportsman 850 and it is the perfect bike for me and how I like to ride. But I’d have to say that Canam’s renegade is probably the best mud bike on the market. They are certainly the most popular as anyone who watches mud videos can tell. They have the most accessories, and overall after market upgrades available so people can personally fine tune them however they choose for themselves. Their biggest downfall is that you can’t really buy one with both snorkel kit and rad relocate kit from the factory, you have to get one or the other and add the second which is kind of stupid. Both options are a must for mudding, but I find most people underplay the importance of gearing. Having good low gears not only will help get you through thicker and messier places but also be easier on the bike itself, reducing the chances of breaking things and ruining a fun day. Things like axels are obviously important too but really only if your getting into bigger lift kits which anyone who is doing them will probably already know.
Having said all that I think the highlifter is a close second. The integrated rad and snorkels are a great looking design and functional. My only gripe about it is that they still use the older body design and lights, not because they look terrible per say. Just that they look terrible when compared to the newer body style and lights on the standard sportsman models.
But that’s just one mans opinion, love your videos, I try to watch them all even the snowtrax ones despite not having a sled myself. Keep it up and I look forward to the next video!!

I was always in the back of the pack due to the low speed I had ride over rock and hard pack . Not to mention a few loose teeth by the end of our rides lol . It does have plenty of power and super reliable. I swapped out the tires for all terrain it’s like a brand new quad.

Personally I would say this machine is the best mud ATV from the factory…. I’m biased towards Polaris anyway so that’s mainly why I say that…. Must have factory equipment for mudding in my opinion include: raked A-arms, mud specific (big) tires, high mount rad and winch, tow hooks that are accessible when buried in the mud, beefier drive train (diffs, axles, etc), lots of power from the engine, good lighting for those dark mud covered trips home and something with more ground clearance then the normal trial ATV’s…. That’s what I’d include and I really hope one day Yamaha, Honda or Kawasaki take a stab at this market segment so we can see what they come out with!!! Love the videos DT!!!

Needed. To be different from everyone else and to list something that isn’t already covered. A tiger tail or something similar is an extremely important accessory for mud riding. Majority of the times you get pulled out of mud from the rear so having a tiger tail can make that SO much easier.

I agree. Bead lock wheels on a mud specific bike are needed. You don’t know what you are getting into and want to know your bike can handle it. I think Polaris did good with the high lifter. Rad relocate and snorkels of course is a must. Tires are good. Winch location is ideal. Heck even the gear reduction is awesome. Thought it would benefit from a lift kit and maybe even a wider stance. Something to really scream overkill for Polaris.

As everyone has mentioned, obvious things like mud tires, snorkels, rad relocation, etc. are all must have items, but why have all of that stuff included from the factory if they aren't waterproof?
I've seen reports of factory installed belt boxes, air boxes, and snorkels not actually being water tight from the factory. I think the OEM should focus more time on this.
It's merely an advertising gimmick to include snorkels that are three feet off the ground, yet once you're in 15 or 20 inches of water, the poor seal on the belt box is going to let water in and bring you to a stop.

The winch and large lug tires are the must haves when mud riding.

I find snorkels are the most important item for a mud machine. If the belt gets wet, or the motor locks up from water then things get really expensive really fast. I would rather get pulled out because my machine isn't powerful enough, or the tires aren't aggressive enough. A tug out is free, ( minus the jabs from your buddies). But the tow of shame with a blown belt, or even motor, is way worse in my opinion. Keep up the great videos guys.

What they all have but don't need is a lot of horsepower. They could all use lower gearing. They do a good job with mounting the radiator and making sure you have a winch and good tires. What Polaris and Can-Am both overlook is making it easy to take off and reinstall all the plastics, or at least the side pieces. It has to be done every time you wash it, and they don't make it easy what so ever.

High mount winch is a must have. Im thinking of covering my 2020 sportsman touring 1000 to use the rad relocation kit with snorkels, high clearance a arms and front bumper. I do wish polaris would upgrade touring and high lifter to the newer body style with led lighting front and rear. Also polaris does restrict the high lifter and touring 1000 engines a lot so tuning the computer will unlock a good bit of power.

Dirt tracks is my favourite off-road CZcams channel by the way A good mud four wheeler that I would buy would be a can-am outlander XMR 850
Because you got snorkels Radiator kit good set of mud tires winch Power steering and plenty of horsepower

I think the best mud ATV is a Polaris and the best features I look for is the snorkel I don’t really need mud tires as I will put my own on it, sorta the fun of making a mud ATV!! Choose me lol 😬

I think the Polaris Highlifters are the best in the game for mud from factory . The features they have and the 4wd that’s tride and true . The outlaws are much better than what the XMR has to offer. Tires , gear reduction, winch , snorkels , and rad relocate is a must for any mud bike.

The best mud atv from factory should come with a rad relocation kit, snorkels that are taller then the handle bars, 28-30 inch smooth riding mud tires, a 3500lbs winch, electrical connections that are already dielectric greased to keep out water, nice strong bumpers, grippy seat cover, nice foot pegs/floorboards, completely water tight gas cap and air box cover, and a fully locking front differential and lower gearing

I’ll say the best is the highlighter I personally have one I love it never gotten stuck once and one must have it tires for shure.

Longer wheel base it looks like the back tires are way close to foot well get some good mud in there and if the giant lugs happen to hook a log that some other guy used to get though that mud it will jam up and not allow wheel to go. Also it needs to have a coating over everything that will not allow mud to stick and easy to wash

the new highlifter and the xmr are very good out of the box. both of them should get better axles. seems like always the week point on ether of them. i do agree the highlifter should have higher snorkels. mud atv should have big tires and high horsepower and low gearing for wheel speed. they also could use better diffs and better diff locks. love you guys love all the videos cant wait for the season to start. this is always the worse time when you switch between snowtrax and dirttrax. love them both keep up the good work.

Love what you guys do. To me a mud bike needs clearance and tires 1sr then water protection (including snorkel, seals, some dry storage) rad protection to prevent overheating. They put stiff suspension but i would prefer softer and more travel, and lets not forget power and clutching. I run an xmr, love it would love to test ride the highlifter to compare. Know they both have good features the other doesn't.

Good video. I’d say everything that the highlifter sportsman and can am XMR offer are perfect for mud riders. Only thing I think I personally would rather have is thinner tires for less weight.

Polaris makes the best everything hands down, I’ve ridden both XMRs for canam and a Polaris highlighter and the highlighter without question always out performs.

Ostacruiser is a good channel to start with! His group ride in the deepest skeg ever shown on CZcams! See how many Polaris bikes ride with those Saskatchewan boys! Not too many! I don’t put it all to just where the dealer is located either! If you want you can get any bike any where in North America!! Can’t blame it on dealer location! Personally I have both Can Am and Polaris breeds and the ones I have are perfect bikes for me anyways!!!

If i buy a stock atv or utv for mud, hmm well I love the idea off the belt, clutch, axles, transmission ect.... being able to handle duals! Dream build is a can am defender 6x6 with a cab and powered dump box with duals out back! Heck I've watched many video's and looks like duals work better than just going with taller tires. Maybe I'm wrong, but I get a kick out of float ability in the muskeg, "bog"

Well a second battery would be a nice option to have if your witching all day. A tiger tail system would be nice . Fan over ride switch. Would be nice if they gave the option for the upgraded dash as well. A 2 inch receiver instead of the little one.

If I was into mudding I'd start with a stock Can Am Renegade 1000. Must have tall narrow mud tires like the assasinators and I'd probably put a clutch kit in it to handle slow crawling through the thickest soup!! Thanks for the vid!

I watch a ton of atv content from all brands and either the Polaris owners don’t like getting recorded with their HL1000 stuck in skeg or mud or their too far behind the ‘gades & outtys to ask them to get some content. Another great video Luke. Definitely would like to see a HL1000 vs Gade 1000XMR shoot out in the near future. Keep rippin.
