- Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 Project Test Upgraded to Crush the Outlander 1000. The overall performance of Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 is impressive to say the least. Although, we discovered during our 2020 1000cc 4x4 ATV Shootout between the Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 and Can-Am Outlander 1000R XT-P, the Can-Am edges out the Polaris is most aspects of pure performance. Where the Polaris really excels is in the area of comfort, with its narrow mid-section, plush seat, upright seating position, lighter power steering and plusher suspension paying bigger dividends the longer the ride day. Still, we can’t help but feel that if you own a 1000 you want the ultimate in performance. Fortunately, there are upgrades out there that significantly enhance the Sportsman’s 1000 or 850’s performance to help you put some distance between you and the Can-Ams out on the trail.
To test our project Sportsman we returned with test rider and cross country racer Evan Hartzel, to the cross country race course at East Fork MX located near New Vienna Ohio. The site of our 1000cc 4x4 shootout.
At around $10,500 in upgrades this is a bit of a dream build that many of us might find beyond our means. However, this upgrade can be done in stages or simply pick the parts that will offer the biggest benefit for your riding based on your budget.
An incredible machine to behold and ride. Everything from its appearance to its performance capitalize on what the Sportsman XP platform has to offer. Polaris should consider building a sportier sportsman similar to this. Thanks to Mud Motorsports, this Sportsman’s performance is ready to race or set a blistering pace on trail rides. Best of all, it’s far more fun to ride than stock!

We know it's a bit of an over the top build, but this Sportsman project is full of great hop-up ideas for your Sportsman or Scrambler 850 or 1000. Looking forward to your questions and comments. Even the ones regarding on how this project costs too much. 🤟 🤣
For the cost to make your quad as good as a outlander, l would just buy the outlander !!
Yea it's expensive but still a cool project, but everyone it seems does builds on the most expensive machines. Would love to see a poor man's project some time, a build kinda like this but on say a Kodiak 450 or Kingquad 400 or a machine in those category. The prices are just getting way too high in the industry and many are having to buy that mid bore class but still use for work and flog it on the trails on the weekends. Be something different and interesting.
@@rzl07375 that would be awesome to see a Kodiak build done !! Not everyone has 20 grand for a quad today !!
Love my 850! Smooth & comfortable Powerhouse!
It’s good to see new life being brought back to this machine.
Yes and quite an improvement
Knocked it out of the park again, loved this video gave me lots of ideas for my bike!
That's exactly why we did it for you!
Thanks so much Flyin Brian!! I love my wheeler now!! ❤️
We were talking at home tonight about how much you must love that thing. By far the best 4 by 4 project. I have been responsible for. Chad says he loves the way it handles.
This machine is an absolute beast and I want to rip it so bad!!! Those trails look so good. I can only imagine how good it performs. Well done, fellas 🤘
We know you guys enjoy the sportsmen 1000 as much as us. You would absolutely love this thing! Didn't you do a recent test of the sportsman with Polaris new variable power steering? If you did post a link.
@@ATVonDemand We just posted an overview of the Sportsman S. Big Bore Brute of a machine. If your viewers are inclined, we welcome them to have a look. 👊🏻💥🎉

@@dirttraxtv I have to check it out!
Great video guys! Like always…
Thanks. Always appreciate you stopping by to watch and saying a few words.
@@ATVonDemand You bet! 💪
Evan made this machine look like a monster beyond its build.
Evan can go!
Love my sportsman 850, to polish mine from factory I also went with the Cecco Racing frame braces. I opted for the Dynojet power vision 3 with a tune from RVS performance as well as their clutch kit. I also installed garage products bushings as many of the stock bushings did not last. Over 5000km on it now and still works great. Wouldn't trade it for a can am!!!!
Thanks for sharing your experience and your set up.
Is the tune really worth it? I’m thinking of getting one for mine.
Nice video keep up the good work
Way more to come.
Great video !!
Thank you. we had a lot of fun making. glad you enjoyed it.
Nice project!
Thanks. We had a lot of fun seeing what we could do with the sportsman.
Saludos desde Ciudad Valles San Luis Potosí 🔥✌🏼
Saludos!!
Nice to see Dalton used. Both Canadian, and local to me. They are literally about 1-2km up my street
They are a pleasure to work with. We got just the performance we were looking for. Easy adjustability makes it super cool.
I traded my Sportsman 1000 in. Quality just isn’t there .
Thanks for sharing your experience.
@@ATVonDemand You bet . Fun video fixing up chads sportsman . It definitely needed the upgrades .
@@joekearneyOh, it's fixed up!
You won’t appreciate it until ur mounted on this stead…then you get it!
True!
I have both quads , a 2013 outlander 1000xt and a 2017 sportsman 1000 xp ! Both are great quads, but for me doing mostly trail running, I like the sportsman a lot better
@@markbuck9299Thanks for sharing your experience.
Dream bike😊
It's a dream build but picking just a couple items could make a huge difference.
Thanks!
You're welcome
ive been looking at this and the outlander and every dealer that sells both of these machines always say go with can am for price and reliability im not a big polaris fan cause ive had a couple of them that were not reliable but i like the wide stance of this polaris the only problem im seeing right now is all this stuff i have to do to it to make it reliable
2021 Sportsman XP 1000 trail. Pit highlifter front arched a arms with highlifter balljoints on and 2in highlifter lift kit with a cecco racing pinion plate. Dual RJWC exhaust and K&N air filter with an RVS tune. I run 29in bighorn tires or 31in system 3 XM310 tires with a EPI clutch kit. (Depending on the riding)
The trail comes with the rear brushguard which supports the rear frame so no need for the rear brace.
I just wish elka offered more colors than red because my machine is ghost gray with lime squeeze accents. Red would just look silly.
Oh and I ordered my 2021 sportsman 1000 for 12995 in 2021 had to wait til June to get it and got 1000 off with thier heros program and 10% off all accessories. I got a plow, hand/thumb warmers and led light package.
Sounds like you have quite an impressive sportsman! We'd probably still go for the Cecco rear differential brace. It is far more solid then the rear bumper that comes on the sportsman.
the Narrator is OP
OP?
@@ATVonDemand over powered, in good sense :)
The 2020 Polaris Sportsman 1000 S already has a ton of things to beat the Can ams. Would be interesting to see a comparison of the 2020 1000 S to Can ams most comparable model. I think the Polaris would take the cake on handling and suspension and Canam on straight performance. I have the 2020 1000 S btw
We will have something close to that coming hopefully before the end of the year. We will be running a scrambler s against a renegade. Should be interesting.
👍👍👍
Glad you liked it doc thanks for coming.
Great video and built, but you need to talk to Jay gropl for a better built 🚀🤩
A little confused. Great built, but we need to talk to jay gropl for a better built? Who is Jay?
What body protection are you using, if any?
We had no body protection except for the bumper and skid plates.
Anybody doing up the s model i wanna see what people are doing with that 55 inches
Those wide sportsman and scramblers are so good!
What can I do to my sportsman 850 to enhance performance… I’m tired of getting picked on 😭
Suspension is where it's at.
So what is it that I should do?
@@shunlaflare6706If we were spending our money, We would start with the Cecco components for derability. Beating a one thousand in a drag race is going to be difficult. Beating them on a trail is a different story. Shocks, ttires and clutching would be our first performance upgrades. The elka shocks made a night and day difference in hangoing along with the ITP tires. A arms would probably be our next upgrade to improve high speed handling. Feel free to follow up if you have any other questions.
The Teixeria tech A-Arms are 1500.00 , Elka shocks are made to order, Keizer wheels call them. HMF exhaust 780.00.
I would just buy a scrambler 1000 s
To think, I just want a belt box on the side of the machine I can actually get to. You aren't changing a belt on the sportsman 1000 while riding.
i'm no Can-Am fan but This is ridiculous. Polaris Sucks like no other in value, quality, warrantee, customer satisfaction. their a sham .
Everyone is welcome to their opinion.
Can Am you have been put on notice!
They will certainly have a harder time keeping up with this sportsman.
If you buy a can am u dont have to do this stuff. I had a 2019 sportsman 1000 sold it and bought a outlander 1000r better quality machine for sure.
The Can-Ams are faster and handle better out of the box. This machine definitely handles better than a sdoc Can-Am now. This project is more for people who own a sportsman.
@@ATVonDemandI don’t think can ams handle better stock. I can smoke my buddy on my sportsman 850 in the trails. He even says mine feels more stable and I leave him in the corners and rough stuff.
🙈 "promosm"
AAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA CAN AM KILLER 😂
Lol
