    Doug Tract, better known as The Greaseman. He is truly a one of a kind radio personality. In an era of 3, 4, & 5 person morning shows, Grease would make radio comedy gold, all by himself. The Greaseman pseudonym originated while he was in college. Grease has said in an interiview, “In those days of top 40, everybody who was on the radio was ‘cookin’; cookin’ with the Temptations, cookin’ Four Tops, that kind of thing. Which meant they were really rockin’. One day I said I was cookin’ with heavy grease. It was my way of saying I was out-cookin’ the other guys. I said it enough times, so one day one of the other deejays referred to me as the Greaseman.”
    Dougie T was his on air name, but when he became the Greaseman, a different personality appeared. His voice deepened, and he projected the image of a middle-aged tattooed big bellied truck driver, with a swaggering bravado. Over the years, Grease developed many characters, and calls from listeners would often lead to a story of a recurring character from his repertoire, and thanks to Greaseman’s own special language that he invented, & listeners understood, no topic was taboo.
    Grease is probably best known for his time on WWDC DC101 in Washington, in the 1980s & 90s, when he was a major force on the radio in the nation’s capital. This aircheck features Grease in his early days at DC101, shortly after he took over the shift from Howard Stern.

    After over 40 years working on the radio, I have recorded lots of radio airchecks, and many from my friends as well.
    You'll find audio of many radio personalities who have passed away. Lots radio recordings from the 1940s, through the 2010.
    We also talk about radio broadcasting. If you happen to have classic airchecks, maybe even of yourself on the air, we'd love to share it here!
    We also share videos about Travel & Cruising. I share tips on how I travel cheaply, so you can do it also! Find me on Facebook: / ellisairchecks

    My brother passed away last week and we grew up listening to The Greaseman together and we used to always use Greaseman lingo to this day! It's been a lot of comfort to me to be able to get on here and find so much new old Greaseman footage to help me remember my brother by

    The RC airplane bit was hilarious in spite, and maybe because of, the lack of ending. It's amazing what Grease did live on the air daily.

    If DC101 was on 101.1, that would mean this freq is used in DC, Philly and NYC! Three Class B stations all in a geographic row?

    AKA one of the village people. That rumor was flying around in the early 90’s😂😂😂😂

      @Heaterguy100 I would be willing to bet anyone the whole Greaseman had once been part of the Village People rumor had more to do with the insecurities of the Grease desperately wanting to add on to his own mystique than anything else. After all where would he even have had any additional time as a radio host to be involved with such a thing like the Village People? Wasn't he on Jacksonville, Fla. radio at the peak of the Vil. People hits in 1978-1979 or some other station?

    The Greaseman ruled Jacksonville Florida "The Land of the Real Man" in the 70's and 80's.

    Was Howard Stern still on DC 101 back then?... Him and Howard Stern are hated rivals

    • @EllisFeaster
      @EllisFeaster  Před 2 lety +1

      No. Stern was replaced by Greaseman, when WKYS helped dislodge Stern from DC101, buy hiring him at their sister station, WNBC.
