WFIL 56 Philadelphia - Joey Reynolds - Jeff Collins (Caplan) - Bill Marshall - 1984 - Radio Aircheck
WFIL 56 Philadelphia - Joey Reynolds - Jeff Collins (Caplan) - Bill Marshall - 1984 - Radio Aircheck
WFIL was one of the big powerhouse radio stations of the 1960s & 70s in Philadelphia. But in the 1970s, as listeners migrated to FM, WFIL was losing listeners. The station changed to Adult Contemporary, then Country, but they still could not attract listeners to the station. By September 1983, management decided to try something new, and flipped to oldies. This airchec features the morning show on the new Oldies station, with radio legend Joey Reynolds, along with his sidekick/newman Jeff Collins (Caplan) who later went on to do mornings at WCBS New York, and later KSL Salt Lake City, and show producer, Bill Marshall who joined WFIL from Kix 101.5 WKXW Trenton.

You Tube's oldest RADIO AIRCHECK MUSEUM with a NEW VIDEO posted daily at 3PM EST.
After over 40 years working on the radio, I have recorded lots of my own radio air checks of ME on the air, and many of my friends as well. You'll find audio of many radio personalities who have passed away, but have passed their audio to me to share here. You'll find radio airchecks from the 1940s, through the 1990s. We also talk about radio broadcasting. If you happen to have classic airchecks, maybe even of yourself on the air, we'd love to share it here!
If you are on the radio, or do voiceovers for You Tube videos, I have tips to make your radio show or video voiceovers better!
In addition to sharing audio from my 40 years in broadcasting, we also share videos about Travel & Cruising. I share tips on how I travel cheaply, so you can do it also!
***BTW, I edit all music out of airchecks to avoid music rights issues.***

I purchased a reel to reel tape player and it came with an original recording from Saturday, Nov. 23rd, 1963 and was a football game between Oklahoma and Nebraska . All the advertising was somber and wouldn't play out of respect for the dead president and the new president LBJ. Oswald was still alive and nobody knew anything yet.

This add campaign for Budweiser was well done. There are other commercials with the "Where there's life, there's Bud." Those TV commercials are here on YT and worth seeking. The music on them are even better than this. The title of one here on YT is "Budweiser Heat On The Beach." Advertising back in the those days had many commercials with great music. I remember many of them and have found some here. If you can find old TV shows with original commercials, the commercials are the icing on the cake for nostalgia.

Thanks, Ellis, Grease definitely had his schtick, the character bits like old-time radio skits. And yes, he took over mornings at DC-101 after Howard Stern left for New York in '82. And one night that winter, either late '82 or early '83, Grease made a promotional appearance in a mall at Bailey's Crossroad in Northern Virginia, I think that was the location but it was a surreal scene in that it was in the late evening, few people were there, but there was the Greaseman and I enjoyed a short conversation with him, quite friendly and likely making observations to use when he got behind the mike and got into his crazy on-air persona. 😀

Man! I used to LOVE this station when it was on. It played a bit of everything. Oldies (Beatles, Elvis, Walk Away Renee, etc). The newer acts at the time with their current hits, = (Alan Parsons, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, etc). Used to love hearing Wyny, W Y N Y New York. Forgive me but I hardly remember the personalities or DJ’s now. Except of course Dan Daniel’s, who I listened to years after WYNY signed off on WCBSFM 101. I do remember that “Size nine” bit. Used to love the TV/radio commercials that advertised this station at the time which parodied other music formats. “I love your arms so much I want to break them off!” Country: “I want to marry my horse, but I can’t get a bridal suite”. Good, good station but nothing’s forever but I sure appreciated it while it was on.
