More than 40 years living in Houston. Every year I receive tornado warnings. Never paid much attention to them bc they never hit us.
I live Cypress and this time I thought I was about to get killed. The lights went out and all of a sudden I heard a distant freight train getting closer quick. Barely had enough time to get my dog and barricade ourselves in a small closet underneath the stairs.
It felt as if though the house was about to get blown apart.
We were lucky. God is good. Part of my roof and my entire back yard fence and a tree is completely destroyed. A tree in my front yard had huge branches ripped out damaging a few of my vehicles . Those are trivial things. Material things can be replaced. Your life cannot. The city says we won't have power restored for at least 48 hrs. It blows (pardon the pun) but I can live with that. Stay safe everyone.

I live in the Houston area and this reminds me of Hurricane Alicia in 1983 when all the green glass from the Allied Bank Building (same as one in the video) blew out and landed in the streets below. This is why the newscasters said this destructive thunderstorm was like a Category I Hurricane. So true! Because by the time a Hurricane comes ashore in the Houston area, the winds die down to Category I strength, but there is still destruction - just not as bad as when it first hits the coast.
