New to the Wilson Combat lineup is the SFT9. I has a solid frame with the grips built into it versus the traditional 1911 design. It's a 1911 that is meant to do everything pretty well. If choosing what it does best, we think it makes a lot of sense as a thin 1911 EDC gun. - Zábava
Would like to see Jake sit down with his collection of 1911/2011's plus as many other 1911/2011's as y'all could get your hands on and get a general overview/summation say two minutes per gun, and what he likes and doesn't plus his opinion on each company basically an idea of best bang for buck, best fit and finish. Basically what it would be like to walk into a gun store and handle 15-20 firearms of the 2011 variety since most people don't have access to that kind thing.

Love your videos but this one leaves out how groundbreaking Wilson Combat has been with these guns… 20 years ago many thought the 911 was dead and recently with the proliferation of polymer striker designs, the 1911 was thought to be outdated. All of this is now changed and this video doesn’t lay out the landscape entirely. 20 years ago companies like Para Ordinance made double stack steel framed 1911’s to try and modernize the platform - I think this was good but in my experience they weren’t very reliable and it didn’t move the game on… more recently, the STI/Staccato’s of the world did move the game on! These companies devised a screw on polymer grip module for the 1911 - thus keeping the benefits of the 1911 (trigger, accuracy) while increasing capacity and reducing weight - and now we have the 2011 - that’s making inroads with police, military and the 2 factions - the 1911 people who appreciate an enhanced platform that retains a lot of the original and the polymer striker people who are trying these 2011’s and realizing how awesome they are! This is groundbreaking!!!
But in this video you review of this Wilson and the punchline is “it’s good” - I think it deserves a lot more than that! The new guns Wilson has produced are groundbreaking in many ways… if you perhaps don’t like the idea of a polymer grip module screwed onto a steel or aluminum frame (Prodigy and Staccato) or a more elegant aluminum grip module (Nighthawk), Wilson has address this with a one-piece design. If you love the idea of a lighter slide and an external extractor mated to a one-piece double stack frame you have the Tri-cut slides of the EDC and SFX - if you like a wider frame you buy the EDC with the G10 inserts, if you like the thinner fame you get the SFX or SFT. If you prefer a traditional slide you buy the gun in this video… But I think your video glosses over some pretty significant enhancements by Wilson… First, you have a 2011 alternative in the one-piece design, second, you have choices of modern or traditional slide and extractor designs, third, you have the elimination of the grip safety (simplification, reduced weight, complexity and maintenance), fourth, you have a redesigned barrel to slide lockup in the EDC and SFX that more resembles a polymer pistol lockup, fifth, you have cut slide rails in these models vs traditional 1911’s with full length slide rails to improve reliability when dirty, 6th, you have 15 flush and 18 round magazines (that work in all of these guns - great simplicity and compatibility from Mec Gar), where the 18’s only protrude a little, 7th, you have extensive engineering that provides double stack capacity with a thinner grip…
These Wilsons are as groundbreaking as the original concept of the 2011 and would love to see some
Videos on this evolution as Wilson has truly moved the game on.
My suggestion to Wilson is to extend these designs to utilize steel frames for us nerds that like steel on steel vs steel and aluminum) but I would imagine these frames would be nearly impossible to forge in steel, perhaps a new casting process to offer these incredible designs in all stainless or carbon steel. Just some of my thoughts!

SFT9 is not technically a 1911. There's a number of differences like no grip safety. etc. Obviously very similar to a 1911, based on the 1911. Anyway, it's the dream gun I waited decades for, and while not cheap, you pay for the best, and it gets no better than a Wilson, and the AFT9 is the peak Wilson offering. I always wanted a dead reliable double stack 9mm based on 1911, made for CCW, and they did it. The EDC was close, didn't like the ergos.
my biggest complaint with the standard 2011 series is the magazines. The Wilson EDCx9, SFT9, Experior series offer amazing magazines. Its really a game changer.

Any gripes? Recommend over staccato? Looking at the 4in. How’s the grip, looks not very aggressive almost smooth?
Aluminum based 1911s are always gona feel more snappy compared to a polymer or steel frame across equal sized pistols.

7075 is a great aluminum alloy. About 84% stronger than 6061 with a higher hardness for wear resistance and lower thermal conductivity, making it an excellent choice for firearm parts that aren't the bolt/barrel. The main chemical difference is the higher zinc content in 7075. T6 is pretty much the go-to heat treat spec for high-grade aluminum alloys. Saying the heat treat before the alloy is weird.

I watched this video when I first got the SFT almost a year ago and then again today. It has gone from a range toy to literally my do everything gun in that time. I thought I would add my thoughts in the comments for anyone looking to get one.
I was a striker fire or DA/SA guy until I picked up a Staccato P. Fantastic gun but was too big for an EDC for me. I got a Staccato CS. Little gun and a great carry size but truly a bit snappy for my tastes. (Yes, I can handle the recoil fine but why should I have to when there is a better option.) Eenter the SFT. I actually went to buy an SFX but they had the T in stock and I am not the most patient person so I bought it.
As I got to know the gun and shot it more and more I fell in love with it. I eventually did a shoot off with all the guns I felt I shot the best. Using quantifiable metrics, the SFT was the clear winner and it wasn’t even close with any of the striker fire guns and the SFT out performed the Staccato P in my hands as well.
I have put between 5 and 6 thousand rounds though it at this point. I have not seen a difference in the 1147 and the 115 grain ammo but my palate is likely not as refined as yours. It is extremely reliable for about 500 to 700 rounds after cleaning. It will then start to feed rounds in slow motion until you clean and oil it. (Oil alone isn’t enough btw.) It took me six months of practice before I was 100% subconsciously competent with the safety coming off with the draw stroke. Now I carry this everywhere it is legal and I don’t need a 10mm. I have 22 magazines for the range so I can run a lot of training with minimal time reloading. Most of those mags are the 18 round mags. (It is worth noting, most of those would only take 17 rounds until they had been broken in.) I haven’t done an IDPA match in a while but feel the SFT will shine in that atmosphere.
Anyway, if anyone else is thinking of getting one of these I feel it is money well spent. It takes more time to maintain than an HK or Glock. It is the most narrow double stack grip you can get on a 1911 and carries extremely well.

How do these (SFX9/SFT9) compare to a Staccato C2?
I was really wanting a Wilson, but the Staccato is getting a lot of praise and its significantly cheaper.
Wilson mags are much more affordable, though. Staccato's magazine prices are outright robbery.

If we're being honest it really just has to be reliable enough to get through the ammo that's in the gun and whatever spare magazines you carry. Then maybe a 200 round practice session, and you can stop shooting and lube it then.

These are pretty cool and I prefer the traditional look of the slide vs some of their similar guns. It would be a lot more appealing at a price point closer to $2k.
Agree, but hand fitting & labor drives up the price FAST. I have a Les Baer, and it lacks in attention to detail & finish compared to a WC.

The WC pistol is amazing!! Only major downside, that was mentioned, single sided safety. And if you happen to purchase from a seller other than Wilson, you’re out of luck. They refuse to sell any safety. Ambi or otherwise. Very frustrating! Especially after putting down quite a bit for their firearms. 👎🏻. But the pistol is awesome.
The Ambi safety is a factory option. I don’t know about it as aftermarket accessory.

@@tomharper8351 For carry I have a couple Staccato’s that are substantially modified, and a couple P365x with PMM Barrel/Comp and Wilson (go figure) grip frames. For pure enjoyment a few full on Custom 1911’s (Yost, Don Williams, Harrison, etc).
In the video title you call me the SFT9 "the do it all 1911". I don't consider the SFT9 to be a true 1911 or even a true 2011. It may have 1911/2011 like controls etc but it has no grip safety, so.... not a 1911!
LMT is not Gucci. LMT has a big problem with putting out messed up parts with HORRIBLE machining, and nearly non-existent QC...... They are a dumpster fire that charges WAAAAAYYYY more than they're worth.
