      Shooting a pistol is a perusable skill.
      Shooting a pistol with a red dot is doubly perusable (degrading faster).
      Red dots are in and of themselves great training aids.
      They reward people who train regularly and punish those who don't
      My only concern is: Where do most police officers fall of this training curve?

I did alot of reserch and I never found anything that would make me question the reliability of a red dot in 2022. About the comment at 21:10. At Shadow Systems it was my job to zero irons for a long time. It got to the point where I could get the rear sight within .001" and that's great, but no matter what, there's human variance in the aligning sights and it's a pain in the ass at 50 plus yards. An optic is nowhere as difficult because of all the carp going on in your visual field. I LOVE the demonstration given.

    On the ACSS with the large ring, if you haven't been in at least a few gunfignts, I would leave the ring on, even if you don't need it. When the pressure of life and death is on, you don't perform as well as in training. It's something you can't totally replicate at the range.

    I was a late adopter of dots on pistols but now I’m sold. Is it a “must have” on a concealed carry gun IMO? No but it’s definitely nice to have and does give you more capability. What convinced me was taking an advanced pistol class with a 48MOS with a Holosun 507k. When things got “dynamic” is where the dot shined. Shooting on the move, in funky positions, single handed, or moving targets all became easier with a dot. That being said, there is a frustrating learning curve i had to work through.

Secondly. No one said it has to be purchased all at once, and the vast…..vast majority of individuals poorly spend their money with no direction. I’ve run a bunch of different dots on my pistols in competition for years. Trijicon, HS, Sig and Cmore. None of them have ever failed. But like all high speed gear , you install them properly , maintain, clean and inspect them. I clean my guns after every use. Confirm my zero on every range trip. Change batteries regularly. Use proper lens cleaning technique. Are dots a better sighting system then irons ? .. of course , unless you have an eyesight issue like a severe astigmatism ( but some reticules are better than others for that ) I’ve cracked a lens , stripped screws etc but other parts on my guns have broken or failed and required replacement just like on any other tool or sports equipment that I use a lot. Dot shooters typically fill out the leader board at competitions simply because they are measurably faster and more accurate . When you match 2 shooters of the exact same proficiency against each other the dot shooter will typically win. Thats what the stats say anyway .

    Just a testament to the RMR's durability. Specifically a Trijicon Rmr RM06 type 2--I have one mounted on my G19 mos. Well, on Sunday of this past week I started shooting some bulk Norma ammo(normally good ammo imo, never had any issues with it and it is always accurate). Anyway, I got 2 significant jams that "tap, rack" wouldn't rectify. The slide was simply stuck slightly out of battery and due to the Gen 5 coating on the slide it was very hard to get a strong enough grip to rip the slide open. Well, I just racked it off the bed of my truck using my RMR as leverage and the round ejected. The optic is fine and didn't even lose zero. In the past I've also dropped it onto concrete and frozen ground and fallen onto the gun with optic mounted(ice is slippery! I fell directly onto my holster, great thing Glocks are drop safe LOL).
    100% I trust my life to the Trijicon RMR type 2. It has also helped me become a better pistol shooter. If I do my part properly I can make 100 yard shots with random range ammo and that's not an exaggeration. I nowadays do most of my practice at 25 yards because the red dot has made it trivial and the pistol bays at my gun club go out to 25 so I just practice there.
    I love red dots on pistols and I don't understand the persistent debate around them. The only people who shouldn't use them are people with bad astigmatism and I'm sure for them at some point a company like Eotech will miniaturize their holographic tech OR SOMETHING will come along that will alleviate the issue--I've actually heard some people with astigmatism say holosun works good for them due to the reticle I guess.

      Two words sir CLOSED EMITTER. I’m sorry not to be rude but this is simply another ridiculously flawed excuse. Does it rain 24/7 365 where you live? You’re carrying concealed I assume so your clothing will keep your dot dry unless you like to jump in a pool on a rainy day, if rain makes dots ineffective then why do we run them on rifles? If inclement weather is legit your excuse I’m sorry you simply have no idea what you’re talking about. I am in no way trying to be rude but dude this excuse has been disproven time and time and time and time again. If you simply just don’t want to run a dot cause you don’t want to cool 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @HondaRiderX17
      @HondaRiderX17 Před rokem +2

      @@Chrisblau I don't take any of that as rude in any way but I think your logic is flawed. In the Pacific Northwest rain is a constant problem. Open or closed emitter doesn't matter. If you can't see through the glass you can't see the glass simple as that. I Have the same problems with my rifle scopes on my hunting rifles, binoculars, range finders, red dots and ACOGs. Heck even glasses will fog to the point where they are unusable everything with a lens has this problem. It does not matter on my hunting equipment because I can simply not take a shot but on the gear I used to defend myself for me it's mandatory that that optic be removed to expose irons. If I could take my RMR off my Glock quickly and easily I would have no problem with a dot on my handgun. I prefer it over irons. But the fact that I can't makes the handgun unusable in some situations You are right that it stay clean when concealed but I don't only expect my handgun to be usable when coming out of concealment. Like I said I prefer the dot over irons so I'm not trying to make excuses for why I don't run one.

  • @jeffgenchi5863
    @jeffgenchi5863 Před rokem

    I feel the debate is happening because of footprints and type of red dots. For example quality of do it all plates (Glock MOS), screw issues (breaking). Batteries under the optic, color of dots, I like my Sigs but then I get limited how they cut the footprint. Now I am limited to which optic. S&W made plastic plates that broke, if you are like me and prefer a closed emitter then there are little options. Then when you find the optic now it does not match your gun. Does one buy a gun to match the optic they like or buy the gun and settle for the optic. Plates are a failure point. It will get better. But the argument I do not believe is because of the red dot versus irons (sometimes it is) but I experience confusion on the fitment. Plus a red dot combo that resolves the new shooter concerns are far more expensive. Time will bring the cost down. I was just looking at a new P226 legion and I asked what be the factory red dot cut was for. I knew but I wanted to see if they could tell me. They did not know. This is a $1300 cut for certain optics. They could not even tell me that crucial info. Imagine a new shooter. Time will fix this.
