This is a test of the 100 gr Exact Archery 3 blade.
Here is summary of my 2024 Testing Procedure & Scoring w/the scores of this head posted in parenthesis as well.
1. Flight Forgiveness (20%, 18 pts)
I'm using a Killer Instinct SWAT X1 crossbow, mounted to a BOG tripod, shooting a 670 gr Bishop Archery GOAT bolt (300 fps) at 30 yds. Field points consistently hit in the 10 ring & bullseye. I use the exact same bolt to shoot the broadhead. The only difference in the two shots is the broadhead's flight forgiveness vs that of the field point. A bullseye gets a score of 11/10, or a perfect score of 20 + 1 Bonus Point. The 10 ring gets a 10/10, or 20 points; a 9 ring gets a 9/10 or 18 points...& so forth, with each wider ring being 1/2" farther from the bullseye. Mechs are also given 1 Bonus Point for extra forgiveness.
2. Cut Size (20%, 12.84 pts)
The more tissue being cut, the more lethal the head, all else equal. The entrance cut, total cut, & width of the cut (a crucial variable for bloodletting) are all scored:
The entrance cut size is compared to a standard of 2.5" then that fraction is weighted to 7% of the score. (1.69" = 4.73 pts)
The max cut size is compared to a standard of 2.5" as well, then that fraction is is weighted to 7% of the score. (1.69” = 4.73 pts)
The max cutting diameter is compared to a standard of 2.0", then that fraction is weighted to 6% of the score. (1.13" = 3.39 pts)
3. Blades (20%, 18.46 pts)
Initial sharpness (9%, 313 grams = 8.87/10 = 7.98 pts) & Edge Retention (9%, +29 grams = 9.42/10 = 8.48 pts) are measured using the Edge On Up Sharpness Tester. The pressure needed for a blade to cut thru a copolymer wire is measured in grams.
Edge Retention is the loss of sharpness after the head is shot in Penetration Test 1, thru 1/2" MDF & 2/3" rubber foam mat & Clear Ballistics FBI gel. For every 50 "grams" of sharpness lost, 1 point is deducted from 10.
What are some sharpness scores for common edges?
A butter knife takes 2000 grams of pressure to break the co polymer wire.
A new high end cutlery edge: ~ 375 grams of pressure.
A utility razor blade: 200 grams.
Based on the many broadheads I have tested, here is my scoring scale:
Out of the Box Sharpness:
0-200 gr: 10
201-300 gr 9
301-400 gr: 8
401-500 gr: 7
501-600 gr: 6
601-700 gr: 5
Ease to resharpen or replace blades is judged & given 2% of the score. (10/10= 2 pts)
4. Penetration (20%, 15.61 pts)
There are 2 penetration tests:
Pen Test 1: 1/2" MDF, 2/3" rubber foam mat, Clear Ballistics FBI gel. Depth of penetration is compared to a standard of 9" & weighted to 10% of the score. (7.75" = 8.61 pts
Pen Test 2: Layered cardboard. # of layers penetrated is compared to a standard of 70 layers & weighted to 10% of the score.
( 49 layers= 7 pts)
5. Durability (20%, 20 pts)
Each head is shot thru 1/2" MDF 3 times. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 12% of the score. (10/10 = 12 pts)
If a head survives that, it is then shot thru 22 ga steel plate twice. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 5% of the score. (10/10 = 5 pts)
If a head survives that, it is then shot into concrete once. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 3% of the score. (10/10 = 3 pts).
Steel plate & concrete are certainly not "realistic" mediums, but they do reveal the outer limits of a head's durability.
BONUS:
+.5 pts triangular holes in steel plate
+.3 pts extra thick blades (.052")
TOTAL SCORE: 85.71 pts = 9 Golden Arrows

It’s amazing that all of these different companies can produce all of these different products and still stay in business.
Yep.
so impressive for this new company
Yep
I firmly believe this channel is pushing broadhead makers! Great job John! Thanks for the channel!
Yeah, I think so as well. And I think all of us and the animals and the industry are better off for it. Manufacturers are learning that they can make a really high-quality, very durable broadhead and a price that doesn’t break the bank. I love that kind of innovation. Everyone wins with that.
I have choose my broadheads for the last two years off your videos! Last year was the annihilator (killed an elk with it) this year I decided to go with crimson talon croc 150g and my friend is gonna go with one of CT 3 blade broadheads, all cause of your videos!! Thanks for what you do!! I know a lot of people like me honestly depend on you for broadheads
That’s encouraging to hear. Thanks for sharing that experience. I wish you the best of luck.
Man I’m telling you, they have really come out with some great heads lately… More than I’ve seen over years past. I’m not talking about junk. I’m saying quality heads.. 😉👍
Ya I've been seeing a shift in broad head getting back to basics not as many expandable heads that's a good thing
Man, I totally agree. And I have another 30 heads already tested, locked and loaded and dropping eight per month for the next few months. And then there’s another 30 heads I have beyond that that I’ve not started testing. Those will be for next year. And many of those heads are innovative, cool Ones. This has been a great year for Broadheads like that. I wish there were more innovations with the mechanicals, but there’s been some incredible innovations with fix blades this year and I’ve got a lot of discount codes for a lot of these new ones. My list is growing more and more and I love that. I love to be able to put these Broadheads in peoples wallet.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures More and more states are banning true expandable heads after Game people seeing a number of cases involving arrows in a living animal more and more prior to 2020 when bow hunting was on the rise.
That's a great test with a single peice of material. I have bought quite a few broadheads due to your testing. I especially like the Deepower broadheads.. This is the most lengthy and true to test channel. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the encouragement and the support. I understand that no test is perfect. But I do hope I’m providing good information and objective data points that can be used to help anyone select a Broadhead that fits with their budget and their hunting needs. Warehouse are you really gonna get that kind of information? Reading the back of a package? Asking a few guys at the boat shop? But when I can put any head through the exact same test, it really does provide good comparative data.
Rather impressive, good review and really enjoying this year’s testing format. Thanks John!
Thank you so much for sharing that. That’s very encouraging.
Thanks for responding 👍 i will have to check out that video , yea i agree on the price point, i had major neck surgery last summer and have had to sit out 2,yrs, so September not coming fast enough, thanks for all the testing and God Bless You Sir.
Thank you!
Wow. Good luck ahead. Thank you!
I actually like that, i think it would perform even better, after it was sharpened.
Thanks for all you're doing, i truly love your no BS approach.
Yep. And the Stay Sharp 344 would really get it sharp.
Love all your recommendations and reviews and research I bought sevr last year didn’t haven’t the privilege to take an animal but hopefully this year will be the best year
Nice. Love those heads.
Amazing job as always. Your tests are the gold standard. God bless
Thank you !🙏
Based on your review, I purchased 12 Keaup lighted nocks for $27.99 and I love them. Thank you so much for your equipment reviews.
That’s good to hear. I wish I had some kind of discount code I could offer or I wish they gave me some kind of commission. Ha ha. I’m just glad more people can use lighted Knox. They really help impact as well as in hunting. But they’re just so expensive normally.
I appreciate your testing..I will definitely give them a try!!
Nice.
Great test on this broadhead John.i really like the 2024 test. I wouldn't change anything. Just a great process you run to show the design and durability. I check your channel every single night just waiting for the new one.
Thanks, brother. That’s really encouraging to hear. Man I am pumping out so many of these tests now. I have videos all completed and scheduled to drop, two per week, between now and the end of October. Then I have another 15 completed test that I have just not edited the footage or created the video for yet. Then I have another 30 heads waiting to be tested. They will have to roll over into 2025. I never thought I would have so many Broadheads to test. It’s been pretty cool. I wish I were not in the hospital so much so I could get a lot more of it done.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures i don't know how you do it. And do such a great job at it. I know it has to be very time consuming and hard work to make all of these. It really bothers me when i see negative comments. Some people just are miserable i guess. But please do not let any of the negative folks impact your drive. Because this is the best channel by far in the archery test catagory.in fact they're is no other channel that can compare to yours in my opinion. You really put in the work and you have pride in your work. You do this for us. The consumers. And they're just aint that kind of grit and honesty in the world these days. I don't know what you mean by being in the hospital. But i hope everything is ok with you. I can't Beleive you have so many more tests coming. This is just music to my ears. I watch every single night after work and chores. It's my wind down time.i look forward to it every night. Thank you for everything you do john. You are much apreciated.
Now that is a sweet three blade
Yep….at a sweet price.
So, basically a 1 piece Exodus? Sounds great to me
Yeah, a three blade solid piece blade over shaft design, simple straightforward very effective
Pretty much just 1/2 the price
Very nice review from the best broadhead reviewer on the planet 🌎
God Bless you and your family 🙏😇❤️🇺🇸
Thank you Anthony!
Very impressive! These are impossible to beat for the price.
Yeah, especially with an extra discount with my code. Similar to the price of Crimson Talons.
Based on performance & price point Ordered a couple packages of the 125 gained. Discount code paid for shipping to Hawaii. Thanks so much John
Nice. Good luck!
Thank you Mr Lusk. I am going to give this broadhead a try. You cant beat the price
Right? And to get an extra discount code on top of that is pretty cool I think. I didn’t think they would be able to cut their margins enough to do that, but they were willing to.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures thanks again for deals .
Thanks for giving them a shot
Nice review of this broadhead.
I’m ready to get my 10% thanks 🙏🏼 🙏🏼
Haha. Thanks brother
Veeeerryyyyy impressive
Indeed
I’m confused because the logo S2-100 and the 4 blade they offer is on Amazon for much cheaper seems like they just buy and resale and not make there own broadhead.
I’m not sure how they make it work. Perhaps exact archery is just using them as a manufacturer. Then they’re selling them through their own company here in the states. I would imagine that happens quite a bit.
Looks like a great, K.I.S.S design. Winner winner chicken dinner
Yep
Great video
Thank you!
IMO this is an incredible bargain on a very well designed broadhead with great performance.
Yep.
The stealth bomber version of the montec G5
Haha. Yep
If Lusk don’t like it I don’t use the it !!! Any head has to
Get his approval for me to use it
Thanks BigMike :)
Gonna give them a try. Just ordered a 3 pack. lol, I’ve got like 3 kinds of heads from watching your reviews to try out on some pigs if it will ever cool down. Going to be triple digits here this coming week here in Amarillo. Did anyone ever offer you a free hog hunt yet to test out some of the broadheads?
Nice. I did have a buddy let me hunt hogs on his place in Florida a couple years ago. I only knew him through the channel. It was an incredible time and we’ve remained friends since that time. But that doesn’t happen very often. I would love to go on another hog hunt once I heal up.
Caution, the 125 HAS to have the brass collar on it to make it 125. The weight of each head I received was off by up to 3 grains
Yeah, that’s true about the collar. Plus your -3 grains is nothing at least for me and my shooting abilities. I can shoot 100 grain 125 grain and 150 grain interchangeably out to close to 50 yds with no noticeable impact difference. Three cranes could be a tiny bit of dirt stuck to your arrows shaft or it could be a few drops of water.
Thanks for the work im waiting on the g5 t2 if it does good I'll be shooting it this season
It’s coming up soon. It was not as durable as it had been advertised. But it was also no slouch. It was a simple and effective design for the most part.
The price point is amazing
Right? And then to save another 10% with my discount code. That’s hard to pass up.
Shame they don't come sharper, but that's easy to fix. Will be hunting with the 4 blade this season.
i have found a regular flat file works best for these.
Yeah, those 60° bevels on one piece three blade heads are typically in that range. It takes some work to get them sharper. Those stay sharp guide 344s work incredibly well with those heads. They change the bevel angle from 60 to 44 and they come out much sharper. All that being said, the broadheads are lethal as they are out of the package.
I would love to see how this head performs after being modified with the Stay Sharp 344
Yep!
Yes looks exactly like a deepower
They are very similar.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures
These broadheads are all made in China that Extract archery buys in bulk? I shoot some Chinese broadheads off AliExpress and Amazon and they are good broadheads
Great looking head, but unless I’m badly mistaken, it’ll be illegal in some states because of the barbed design.
Yep. Just like the exodus. There’s six or seven states that don’t allow it. The back of the blades must approach the shaft at a 90° angle in order for it not to be Barb.
Sir i know you've done some helix fj4's but could you do one on the 175g, as I'm trying out this year, just curious on there performance over the lesser weight. Thanks and keep up the testing 👍.
Yeah, I’ve done the 125 and the 150. I think that paints are pretty clear picture of expectation for the 175 as well. There are some solid strengths to those heads. Personally, I prefer the Kayuga Ge two pilot cuts. There are quite a bit thicker and you have various sizes of bleeders that you can insert. Have you seen my test of those?
I’ve taken some animals with them and they performed extremely well. And they are not quite as expensive and I have a discount code that comes with them too. But I don’t mean to slight the FJ4That’s a great head as well. They both have , multiple models to choose from. I know I cannot test that heavier FJ4 for this year just because I already have such a backlog.
Pretty tuff
Yep
I got some of those type of broadheads but I like to know how to sharpen them
You can just lay them flat on any stone or diamond plate, and gently glide them across the stone. Make sure you do the same number of strokes on each of the 3 sides. OR, you can check out the Stay Sharp Guide 344 Sharpener--it will get them sharper than any other method.
I have discovered they are very slow on shipping. Ordered Sunday and didn’t ship until Wednesday. Really. That’s slower than Lancaster archery and they are bad.
Well, they got super swamped, I’m sure, this past Sunday. And it’s not a huge business by any means.
Montec and exodus had a baby. I dont see how this improves on either. That said looks to be a decent head.
Well, it’s a lot shorter than the monte and a heck of a lot less expensive.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures yes, price point is good. Just no innovation here, more recycling other tried and true ideas. That said, broadheads are too expensive for what they are, so I welcome copycat and budget friendly heads. Thanks for your good work doing these reviews
Hey lusk have ever tried tooth of the arrow heads thru crossbow? An if u did how do they fly. Thanks
I only shot the new 3 blade thru the crossbow. But I’d imagine the 1” would fly very well; the XL would not be as forgiving.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures many thanks
I understand that it's a one piece in Exodus is it you know multi-piece Broadhead but I can't fax somebody that copies other people you know what I mean that's just my personal choice and everybody's got their own choice you know can I see they got to you with that crossbow John
Ok. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Ok. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. So many Broadhead companies learn from each other and imitate each other and improve upon each other.
A more expensive deepower Amazon broadhead
these seem to be a harder steel than the deepower are made of. i have found that a steel file works best for sharpening these.
Yeah, they’re very similar. I’ve had great results with Deepower heads. a lot of different companies use the same manufacturers in China to produce their broadheads. So there can be overlap between them at times. Hard to beat the price the product itself for that price.
Do know your laws, South Dakota will have the back end classified as a barb because it is not a 180 degree flat piece or like some other legal broadheads angled forward.
I can’t say for each state. But like you mentioned, when the back edge of the blade does not connect with the feral or approach the shaft at 90°, they are typically considered barbed. There’s about six or seven states like this.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures Was letting everyone know that these might be ban in specific state a person lives in is all and read up on rules before buying. Also, would not be barded if connection is greater then 90 degrees as well as long as broadhead met width requirements all states have for big game.
What are your thoughts on this for a fastshooting crossbow? Mt xBow shoots high 300's and I just prefer a cut on contact head.
For a high-speed crossbow, my first choice is a top-tier sleek, mechanical rear deploying head. Like any of the Sevr Broadheads. I just don’t see how anything could be better than those. They fly extremely well at any speed and are by far the most durable mechanical head on the market and they have a huge 2 inch cut. The rust is all steel and adds an extra 50 grains to give even extra good punch and FOC. honestly, I don’t see the value of using a fix blade head with a crossbow.
Really nice head!!
It reminds me of the Deepower just a bit.
Yep
I got some of the Exact 4 blade cut on contact heads and they were extremely dull. Worst out of the box sharpness I've ever seen.
I’ve heard mixed reviews about the sharpness of those. The ones I tested were extremely sharp. And I’ve heard others have received some that were really sharp. But then others would complain that they were super dull. I think they will trade them in if you ask them. They’re not very difficult to sharpen, but if you are wanting them sharp out of the package, then that’s what you should be expecting.
I thought it looked like the deep power head
Yeah, very similar.
Do you have a list of the top scored broadheads so far?
I compile a list at the end of each year. And it’s a running Excel spreadsheet. So if you look at the last video of 2023, it is called 2023 Broadhead test summary or something like that. In the video description, there is a spreadsheet for all of the test for the previous two years. You can click on the columns and arrange them in whatever order you want. I will do the same thing after this year. But it just takes a bit of time to create those spreadsheets and I’m pretty Filled up just doing the testing right now. But you can always just read the descriptions of the videos without even watching the videos and see how they scored in every area.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures your awesome keep up the good work !
So it is a one piece Exodus. Might as well stick to the original.
Unless you want more blade durability
Unless u want to have to sharpen em before you hunt out the pack yes
Well, each of them has their strengths. Everything is a trade-off in Broadhead Designer. Replaceable blades are nice because they’re extremely sharp and you don’t have to worry about sharpening them if you don’t want to. You can just replace them. But one piece heads are nice in that. They are just solid as can be. But sharpening them can take a little bit of extra work. pricewise there’s really no comparison.
First
Thank you!😊
Like how they copied qad exodus but made it one piece.
Yeah, there’s some similarities there. And exodus copied a few other three blade heads that used blade over shaft design like that as well.
If you don't shit the middle of the block - it would've went thru it....
:)
Holy hell they copied Exodus
Well, there is quite a bit of difference between a component head and a one piece head. Plus they have different steals, different blade, thicknesses, different sizes and different different lengths. But they are both three blade with a blade over shaft design.
Looks like someone copied the exodus and made it one piece
Yeah, everybody learns from each other and makes modifications. The exodus was not the first blade over shaft design. And this is not the first single piece blade over shaft three blade head. But I think it’s cool to see the innovations and imitations that are made.
Illegal in NY
Everything is illegal in NY unless you’re a criminal then it’s all good!👍😆😂🤣😂😂
Yeah, no bar Ted in New York. I hope that changes at some point.
