  • I review, breakdown and explain Only Murders In The Building Season 3 Episode 10 on Hulu and Disney+. I discuss the season finale which was focussed around Selena Gomez as Mabel finding out that Cliff was the actual killer of Paul Rudd’s Ben Glenroy. I react to the ending with Sazz being killed, characters such as Meryl Streep as Loretta, Oliver, Charles, Dickie, Cliff and Tobert. I also give my theories and predictions on who killed Sazz and season 4.

Pleased as punch that it was Cliff! OMITB is a comedy, but Season 3 is the first time that I found myself in tears because it was so moving, thanks to Meryl Streep's phenomenal acting. I loved the tribute to Broadway, and the amazing casting. The writing could do with a bit more sprucing; and the pacing improved. The direction and camera work are good. Looking forward to Season 4 now. Can't wait to find out who wants to have Charles Haden Savage dead! I'm sure there will be more big name guest stars who will grace this excellent whodunit! Before I forget, we need Death Rattle Dazzle to be in Broadway.

Poo. I should have stuck to my original thought that the incestuous son pushed him to protect mother. But it is bad writing to make it so obvious after showing the exact same thing with Meryl Streep. And zaz being the next murder sucks because she is great. The worst episode of the show by far.

What episode in season 2 was this again? I had a theory (which was wrong) about season 3; they had hinted that someone was trying to kill Charles this season, Sazz had mentioned briefly that she heard talk of it or something to that effect. The sandbags!!! The sandbags that fell twice, nearly killing Charles-it was too specific. So I thought Donna poisoned Ben a long while ago, once I figured that Ben was talking to a cookie in his dressing room and not a person (which, not to brag, I figured our right away), I suspected poisoning. And why?
Because he sucked. He couldn’t act on broadway, and Donna couldn’t risk Ben ruining Cliff’s first solo producing job. So I thought, after Ben died, Donna has had to watch Charles suffer through many failed attempts of the patter song, constantly going into the white room, always messing it up-he was the new weak link, he had to go. (also can we talk about the amount of president Mckinley references?? Sazz died because of an assassination-so did the real president McKinley).
I guess I was wrong though, there’s no way Donna could have shot through the window with such precision, and the show had already come out so she obviously would no longer have reason to kill.
They always leave a ‘loose end’ at the end of every season, right? Season 1- the loose end, that I can speculate about at least, is that we don’t know who poisoned Oliver’s dog- it was never confirmed to be Jan, as far as I remember (I may be wrong).
Season two-the loose end was that, as you said, someone was out to get Charles, Lucy even warned him to be careful because she suspected the same.
And I think this new loose end is that there’s been someone under the surface, this whole time-a Moriarty figure if you will, looking for the right time to kill Charles, someone we’ve seen in multiple episodes who is hiding motive to kill. We know Ben hated Charles, we know Jan is in jail because he exposed her, we know Joy probably hates him too- I think something bigger like this is happening, at least I think so.
Can’t wait for the next season, it gets better every year.

Cliff showed no remorse or pain that he had accidentally pushed Ben. When Theo accidentally pushed Zoe, he came home and cried and broke down. Cliff did not. Cliff looked as if he could’ve cared less that he push Ben down the shaft.

    • @117Derek
      @117Derek Před 9 měsíci +26

I think Cliff was not remorse for two reasons: (1) He's immature. He never grew out of his mother's shadow--and will have a very difficult time after she dies from the stage-4 cancer that she revealed she has. (2) Cliff didn't intentionally kill Ben. It was an Accident. They were in a shoving match, and Ben fell through the open elevator door. In the flashback, I didn't see any indication that Cliff INTENTIONALLY push Ben down the elevator shaft. Granted, he should have come forward and explained what happened--but, again, Cliff is immature and not able to make critical decisions--especially one that might hurt himself.
I hope next season, it's made clear that although he's arrested, since he didn't intend to kill Ben, it was declared an accidental death; and Cliff get probation, allowing him to be with his mother during her final days. Note: Donna, too, did not intend to kill Ben; and the amount of rat poison was insufficient to cause death. If she has a good attorney, that info--plus her dying--will probably get her off.

RE: The Tobert being the killer theory. I think he has enough insight into the group dynamic to realise getting rid of Oliver would improve his chances of Mabel moving to LA. Charles would be more likely to see the bigger picture and encourage Mabel to try living out there for awhile, and know she could always move back if it wasn't for her. (I mean an Indie film project would have him in LA for 18 months at the most anyway? Their relationship is still pretty new and Tobert's work would have him moving around regularly. It'd be most likely that she'd move with him on the next project anyway)

You still haven't mentioned the other suspects in Sazz's mistaken identity murder. It could have been Jan. Jan could have either hired a hit man or perhaps was let out on parole. Or perhaps Teddy Demas might be trying to take all three of the podcast trio out one by one. Or it could even be Cinda Canning getting rid of her competition.
Sazz warned Charles this very season by telling him that he has a lot of people who would like to see him dead. Perhaps those two sand bags that almost hit Charles when they fell on stage wasn't an accident after all.
What amazes me the most is we foolish fans (including myself) were going on and on about the Pickwick triplet theory with its twin brother theory and the 3 killer theory and it was all wrong despite all the number 3 images in every single episode. But yet... when it comes to the twin theory... it fit perfectly for the grand finale when Sazz got shot. Sazz in a way IS Charles' twin being that she is his stunt double. Has the writers of OMITB been hinting ALL season long about the mistaken identity murder during this entire season? Crazy but genius.🔍🕵‍♀️🤔
Plus... when are they ever going to reveal who poisoned Winnie the dog? Justice for Winnie! LOL! 🐶🦴😄💖
BTW, I agree with you about Tobert. Pointless. I really thought the elephant story was about Ben and that he was the one who witnessed the murder and did nothing to save Ben. I too feel cheated with Tobert's storyline. What a waist of character development. LOL! 😕😉
Thank you for all the hard work you put into reviewing season 3 of Only Murders in the Building. It is greatly appreciated and I had a blast watching your videos. Sweet mother of Sondheim!

here are my thoughts on the murder of Sazz
I think the person who killed Sazz tried to kill Charles so its a high chance that person didnt like him or he did something wrong to hurt them like what he did to Ben
I think who killed Sazz is a new character or is a character weve heard of but never seen like for example we heard Oliver say donnas name at the end of season 2 so my guesses are (these are long shots) Lucy’s real mom or new dad, Joys new boyfriend and my next guess is Cookie. Cookie is Charles ex girlfriend and she also Sazzes ex too
I feel it could be Joys new boyfriend because of the timing, right before Sazz dies Charles gets a text from Joy saying “Scott Bakula says hi” so maybe he wanted that to be the last thing Charles see before he dies
People I don’t think it is are Tobert, Loretta, Joy, and people from Oliver’s play (but maybe it could be one of them, idk)
Ive seen people saying they think Tobert but I don’t think so because he wants Mable to come to LA and if Charles dies she would spent the rest of her life to find who killed him so thats kind of why I don’t think it’s him
Sazz writing something, right before Sazz dies she said to Charles that she has to tell him something sensitive and maybe the thing she was going to talk about was the person who ended up killing her.
As you can see I love this show and I hope it has lots of great seasons and episodes coming up, this is just my theory and I can’t wait for season 4!

Although Cliff was arrested, I disagree with the notion that he was Ben's "Killer." IMO, it was an Accident--and a good attorney will get Cliff off. In the flashback of Ben falling, it's clear that Ben & Cliff were shoving each other, and that Cliff did NOT intentionally push Ben down the elevator shaft--a fact that Cliff said several times at the end, when he was with Mabel, and threatened to kill himself. I hope next season, the Trio mention that Cliff has been let go or found not guilty.
I do agree with you that the Tobert character was meaningless. Ultimately, he was a distraction for Mabel, and Mabel's struggle this season has been with finding her personal identity, while at the same time continuing her bond with Charles & Oliver. Tobert was a "step back" for Mabel's forward progress in life, so her deciding not to follow him to LA can be seen as a Good Choice by her. So, maybe the writers felt that the Mabel/Tobert sub-plot was worth it.
Finally as to who killed Sazz. I think it's possible that Sazz WAS the target--not Charles. Sazz said she wanted to talk with Charles, but never got to because she was killed. So, keeping her from sharing some important secret (that Sazz may have found out from Jan, who Sazz was dating) might be the motive. We'll have to wait until next season to find out.
Overall, I like this season for the performances, the numerous mind-games on Who the Murderer was, the musical numbers, and finally, the fact that several weeks ago I predicted that Ben's death was NOT a "Murder" but an "Accident."

I hope that next season, Scott Bakula moves into Ben's old apartment with Joy, much to Charles' chagrin. I also hope that Scott has a line where he's talking to Charles in the lobby, saying something like, "I just moved into Ben Glenroy's old apartment in the penthouse, It's very nice but it's a long way down the elevator to get from there to here". Which would be a perfect reference to Star Trek.

Can't say I was surprised by the ending because I already saw a lot of fan theories about the cookie, Donna & Cliff. But I still enjoyed it 😅 I really thought they were all gonna move to L.A., but they might, to gather evidence related to Sazz? Also, when Sazz showed up at the end, I knew someone was about to be killed off and it was her.

Also in season 1 someone left a note tapped to Jan's door and she looked worried as well we don't know who wrote that letter to her and that person had entry to the building
Also maybe sazz is the one who the killer meant to kill as she had something to tell Charles and the killer maybe didn't want sazz to tell Charles

It's very obvious that it was Cliff and Donna, firstly it's the 3rd season and there had never been 2 killers, in the first it was Jan, in the second Becky. When I started watching, I was already preparing myself for there to be 2 people involved and it was quickly confirmed. Why on earth would a person who tries to kill Ben by poisoning him be using the hankie that Ben gave him. Then, for the hankie to have been grabbed by Ben, it could only have been in the pocket of a coat or around his neck and, given the clothes everyone was wearing, only Cliff could have had it.
Then they mentioned too many times that the lady would do everything to protect her son. By excluding suspicions, there weren't many other people in the story enough to be suspects. Loretta and Dicky quickly realized that they were just mother and daughter and that they were not involved in the crime.

i think that for the coming seasons the murder shouldn't be the central part of the story, as its going to feel like a rundown plot point. I like this season because of the theatre appeal of it. It's a very stylized show which I love, the revelations on the various characters was more exciting than finding out who the killer was.

Bro this season had more theater than actual murder investigating what are you complaining about. Also, sorry for ruining your wish but I think solving assasination attempt on your friend should be prime topic and it doesn't look like our trio will have a beef again and Oliver doesn't have his theater play to worry about so they will spend more time investigating.

@@BrainPilotalso, if he fell like they show, he would have fell right through the elevator ceiling, rather than just laying on top of it which was the case. It took a moment for the ceiling to break under Ben's weight, I was thinking that the reveal would show that itbwas not how we expected it to be based on the shots of Ben falling and that he was actually first killed and then put on the elevator

This was my favorite season by far... until the last episode :/ It all just felt so rushed with Donna and Cliff and I ended up having a similar feeling to last season's killer where they ended up being a side character I didn't really know that well or care about. But this one felt much worse because the people who it COULD have been were so much more interesting than who it ended up being. We spent so much more time with Loretta, Dickie, and Tobert-and I really liked all their characterization, there were so many reasons why it could have been any of them-that it was a pretty big letdown for me to discover none of them were involved. I truly thought the whole cast could have somehow actually conspired to all take part in Paul Rudd's death and were giving one big "performance" for the OMITB trio to lead them astray, which would have fit in nicely with the whole theatrical "lets give 'em a show" "this is my big break" theme this season, but it's like they just totally backed out of everything they had built up to. I don't know, for a season that was largely imaginative for the bulk of its runtime, the motives for Donna and Cliff were just too uninventive for me. That being said, Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Meryl Streep were really great and I can't wait to see who offed Sazz!

  • @danieljames6899
    @danieljames6899 Před 9 měsíci

I was very happy with the ending, I had been saying for weeks that Cliff was the killer, and I'm glad I was right. I had also blamed Cliff for the poisoned cookie, but it was actually his mother, whatever. I disagree, I enjoyed all the episodes, I agree that some of them seemed like filler, but that's okay they lighten up the series. I suspect that we may see Tobert again in the next season, I know he said he would leave, but we don't know when, and we don't know that how long he will cover next season. Maybe Tobert's departure is in 2 months and the season only covers those. Either way, I don't think we won't see Tobert again. Who killed Sazz? I'm convinced it's someone we don't know yet. I am also certain that Sazz was the target of the new Killer and that they did not confuse her with Charles. At the party she said she had some sensitive things to say to Charles, probably something we will find out next season. However, I am sure that at the beginning of season 4 the writers will try to make us believe that Charles was the target of the new Killer. One detail not to be overlooked is Sazz's hand at the end, maybe she tried to send a message, to help identify who she believes is her Killer

Well with the producers clue it would’ve been the obvious assumption but no one thought they’d do the obvious but they did and the ending was uneventful Cliff trying to throw himself down a shoot for 4 mins? Idk what they thought they were doing ripping off the plot of the other movie kind of boring tbh. I was waiting for a grand explanation Season 2 is the bet imo atm
