So hard to process the sad news that we have lost the legend that is Dave Greenfield... For me Dave's keyboard skills defined the bands sound alongside JJ's unequaled bass line's and the power house behind the drums Jet Black... Like so many The Stranglers have been a large part of my life for more than 40 years and I have so many memories of seeing the band over the years. R.I.P. Dave...Forever in our memories..

Germany here, I was in my youth, so the 1980s times a fan of the huge flood of music from England. Not only the icons like "Madness", "Simple Minds" or "Adam & The Ants".
Thousands of artists came from the island and every day new, oh how I miss this decade. I have remained faithful to many musicians from England, but at almost 60 years old I still proudly wear the "Stranglers" T-shirt
Thank you England for making so much good music history. I love you guys for it...

I spent two hours in his company in 89 after a gig. I was in the hotel with my brother after blagging our way in and I saw Dave and his wife just ready to retire upstairs so I shouted "Hey Dave any chance you could have a drink with me" and he and his wife Pam came downstairs and my brother gave him some hash for a few smokes which he really appreciated and I spent over two hours with them both in the hotel. I gave him my bootstraps that he kept admiring all night and hadn't ever seen a pair before so I gifted them to him. A lovely guy. I remember the rings he had on

I wouldn't go that far and say the best, he was ok but at the beginning he could play anything else and I think Hugh was going to play bass but had to practice a bit more on guitar, I'm not a big fan of J's as I believe he split them up, I don't think he tried to but in my opinion he was the cause behind it and king hitting Hugh ( coward punch ) just before they went on stage isn't in the bands best interest.

Stranglers through and through ever since Rattus blew me away. I missed Hugh for a long long time but kept going even through the dark five piece years. Baz brought the Stranglers back to life. His guitar work is better than Hugh's and he has the right stage presence for the band. It's very rare for any band to replace a front man but Baz has done it . Thanks man.

About Baz: I saw them in Cologne in 2001, and Baz is not only a great player and does all the Hugh things right, but he is also the nicest of the lot! Came out after the gig and talked to whomever wanted to listen. But no, you can't forget Hugh. After all, many of these are his songs. Definitely one of the best Stranglers concerts. With Jet Black on drums for the whole concert even though he has serious health issues. I am not a Baz Warn fan, but I must say he did very well singing the songs done by Hugh Cornwell. It was a shame that Hugh quit The Stranglers in 1990, but he did have his reasons and one has to respect that. I saw The Stranglers around the mid 80's in my hometown of Santa Barbara, CA. at the Santa Barbara County Bowl. They opened up for Roxy Music which I thought that was a bit odd. I think I was the only one there who knew who The Stranglers were and very glad to see them in concert.
Very sad that we lost Dave Greenfield, one of the very best keyboard players that ever lived. Rest In Peace Dave. We all miss you, but you will never be forgotten. Thanks for your excellent musicianship on the keyboards.

Baz Warne, I've been a Stranglers fan since the 1970's and as far as I'm concerned you're the lead singer the lads should have had from the start. I 'fell out of love' with these 'Men in Black' when a certain other 'vocalist' was their 'front man' and then........you appeared, re-iginiting my love for the band, all over again. You're top class, Baz, the best lead singer EVER, (in my opinion), that the Stranglers ever had. Thanks for everything, bud.

Your spot on, he was such a a great drummer and very underrated by the media and many other bands, it was a great loss losing Jet, you'd have to like the Strangler's other wise you might know who he was and he really was a fantastic drummer RIP Jet.

fantastic. absolutely class. still doing it. Hugh Cornwell had a voice of his own shame he's not with the band any more but these guys can still play and Baz seems doing well there in Hughes absence. sadly I don't think Hugh will ever return what's gone is gone same as the jam Paul Weller will never return. 2 men who will it seems stick too their words. good luck to u Hugh Cornwell. and good luck to the rest of the lads left in the band yous are fantastic

The stranglers were the 1st band that I ever got into as a 12yr old back in the early 80's. I heard 'hanging around' on a old cassette tape knocking about my house....'skin deep' just came out and I was hooked on em. Spent all my spending money on their vinyl back catalogue...brilliant but no lyrics. So a little later in the early 80's I stole all the inlay covers of their newly released old cd's from a well known high st record shop but couldn't afford to buy the CD inside. I got caught but let off cos basically I'd just stole some card lol. I was gutted when Hugh left in 1990....started seeing em live with Paul Roberts...some good gigs but on reflection he didn't fit. Then welcome Baz....wow!!!!!! Back to the raw Stranglers sound as this gig proves. Absolutely awesome...and long may it continue. I still miss Jet though😢 LONG LIVE THE STRANGLERS.

Hugh Cornwell has said that he never felt his guitar was mixed high enough up in the mix or given enough body on Stranglers' recordings. I obviously wouldn't change a thing on any of those old Stranglers records even given the chance; they're the recordings we all know and love........ but, listening to the mix and guitar tones throughout this gig here, I think he may have had a point to be honest. The guitar sounds great all the way through this gig.

I feel like I've stumbled into a parallel universe where Al Murray has slimmed down and joined the Stranglers on guitar, while the local pub darts champion has replaced Greenfield on the keys.
Stranglers are some of my all time heroes but I lost interest after "Feline". Certainly after Hugh left. This is astonishing. Fair play to that Baz Warne, he takes Hugh's place with real gusto. I never knew. What a great band. Love em.

I'll say one thing for Baz Warn, he's a much tighter guitarist live than Hugh Cornwell was. I know on stage sound is much, much better now than it was back in Cornwell's day and that, performing the lines / parts isn't the same as writing them as well but, still, he is good. His voice is good as well (the screams on "Sometimes" at this gig here are fantastic!). Now, I'm one of those that thinks only the Black, Burnell, Cornwell, Greenfield line up is actually The Stranglers (I loved them since I was a Kid in 78 and grew up with them as one of my favourite bands so, I'm not likely to change on this viewpoint) but, failing having that "original" line up, there's not much wrong with this chap at all is there!?

He's doing a great job but Hugh was a brilliant unique guitar player who was probably overshadowed by the superb bass and keyboard but his underlying guitar sound is vital to the sound of the Stranglers. I miss him.

Great recording of a fantastic gig. The energy , tightness and musicianship are still there even though the line up has changed a few times. It's full of highlights and a great setlist. My personal favourites are Dave drinking whilst playing the solo on No More Heroes and the crowd shouting 2-3-4 at the silent bar on Go Buddy Go . It's audience participation at it's warmest and brings back memories of seeing them live from Feb '81on until Hugh left. It's interesting to read so many comments about his departure here. I wasn't all that surprised that Hugh left because every time I saw them he seemed to get less and less interested and intense. I also thought their albums got weaker progressively from The Raven onwards. He was much more likely to smile at me in the crowd than JJ and always nice to chat to so I forgave and understood him for quitting.
Baz also seems very likeable but of course he will never be Hugh . But I remember when tthey added the brass section and those gigs didn't seem like the Stranglers either. I felt like things were changing and missed them as a 4 piece live.
Still , this is a great trip down memory lane and it's always great to see and hear Stranglers gigs.
