  • Audio-GD is world renowned within a small group of audio connoisseurs. Its regenerative power supply and FPGA corrected R2R DAC, capable of both native PCM and native DSD makes it stand out. And then there is its giant cabinet and its weight of over 17 kilos.

    Hello Hans,
    I really appreciate your work, honest and balanced. Since you have tested both, which do you prefer between AudioGD R7HE and Holo Audio May level 2 ? Thank you in advance for your answer. Best Regards.

    Mr. Beekhuyzen: I am in the habit of leaving my outboard DACs powered up at all times. (Of course, those with vacuum tubed-outputs are another matter!) Does the Audio g-d R7HE regenerative power preclude this activity? Is constant "on" permissable? Thank you, sir. And I really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work.

    Thank you Hans. I love Audio-GD dacs. I use their DI-20 USB interface and connect it with I2S to R-1 R2R dac. If you tried the TDA1545 "emulation" option please share your thoughts. My dac supports it also.

      I have the r-27, so not the same, but similar.. using last year's firmware. I haven't heard any TDA1541A DACs, but was curious to try the emulation. I thought it was quite nice on oversampling mode 2. But I found it lacked the resolution of some other modes, whilst still not having the rich harmonics I enjoy so much in NOS modes 2 & 3 (my older firmware has multiple NOS modes. NOS 2 has the resolution of the oversampling - without the TDA1541A emulation, but with richer harmonics... I can't listen to it in OS modes.. unless emulating the old chip).

    Just wonder how does the overall sound quality of this Audio-GD flagship DAC compare with the Denafrips' flagship Terminator DAC? Which one sounds better?

      I now own the Terminator (not plus) and the R7HE (2021). On my two systems, I greatly prefer the R7. Slightly smaller stage, but more precise, more inner detail, more engaging without being any more harsh than the ultrasmooth Terminator.

    Hans, Great review as always. Very informative. This may be a subjective question. I am interested in both dac's. However, I can only afford one. It appears from your reviews that the Holo spring or May seems easier to use. If you could choose one, would you have a preference. Thanks Robert TN

    Hans, Why do you use 2 streamers in your setup 1? The miniDSP SHD Studio and the Mytek Brooklyn Bridge? Wouldn't the Brooklyn Dac+ have the same result?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Před 4 lety

      I actually have our streamers now in my setup 1, also the Auralic Aries G2, and the SOtM sMS-200Ultra NEO. They are there for comparison, as references to compare with other streamers. Although in the case of the miniDSP I use it only for the DIRAC room correction.

    Hi,
    You mentioned that this dac needs to be connected to the amplifier. Why is this? I was hoping that I could connect this to my av processor with the XLR outputs. Thanks for your fabulous review and tips.

    Towards the end, you say “That might sound a little bit better”. Are you referring to the Holly May or the Audio-GD - which one sounds a little bit better?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Před 4 lety +4

      The Holly May and I now found out that the May is less sensitive to the digital digital signal quality on the input. So It will sound better with poorer (cheaper) sources.

    Is the audio gd r7 he really better in sound quality than the holo audio may L2?
    I think that this is the most important conclusion that has to be taken at the end of this review, these two dacs being the only two chinese r2r competitors in this price range.

    On your webpage you are asking us to ask product related questions here on CZcams, and I am not sure where to ask my question. You have done a lot of excellent reviews and stuff here, but so far you have not talked about Benchmark at all. The products are more or less within the price range you focus on. I know there are many many brands out there and it's not easy to cover all. Is there any special reason why Benchmark has not been on your radar?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Před 4 lety

      No, there isn't except perhaps for that I have not had a single request to review their products. My channel is fairly viewer driven. Since I do only 50 videos a year, that's another limitation.
