If I was to believe this was a professional match run by a professional pool body, then there should be sanction against being unprofessional. Mikaâs bark at De Luna, however justified, is a disgrace to promoting the sport.
That is such a bad ref, calling a foul cuz mila did not directly give a clear verbal combo call was the right call. But the ref got scared after mika threw a tantrum and decided to reverse his call without letting de luna see the evidence⊠bull shit ref
That's exactly what happened. The Ref got scared. HE was watching the game as he is REQUIRED to do but unbelievably he favored (or got scared with Mika). That Referee MUST be suspended or kicked out.
ref didn't call a foul, but a loss of turn. Two very different things.
@@AngrierGorilla either way he reversed it when mika threw a tantrum⊠so still a shit ref
@@chriswarren9857 agreed, just making a clarification, beacuse in pool hall I always have to explain to newbies that in 8-ball and 10-ball it's not a foul when you make undeclared balls. I think it's a common misunderstanding.
@@AngrierGorilla yes I understand that rule as i prefer 10 ball than 9 ball. The game should take it further for poor sportsmanship and ill behavior by adding extra 2 games for the penalized player and a foul. The problem with pool is not the game but the poor ambassadorâs of the game
I feel like there is more going on than just this frame......De Luna didn't seem to do anything until the Ref reacted, but a lot of the anger was aimed at him??????
I'm with you there. It seemed like Mika was the aggressor here, and was totally out of line, and is known for this type of behavior already. But so many players seem to be on his side. Is there something about De Luna that we don't know?? Seems odd. He always seems to be a nice and courteous player. Confusing situation this...
@@diathekedriven Yeah exactly, I expected other players to stay away from it but have seen a lot of support for Mika, even though he is known for this sort of stuff......very confused.
@@Chuckle_Sauce exactly. Thereâs something odd here to me. Especially given Mikaâs reputation for being rude and hotheaded. One guy commented on another post saying he was totally justified and should have thrown a piece of chalk at that âweaselâ. Those are pretty harsh words for Jeff responding to a refâs call. Mikaâs mannerisms seemed to be much more aggressive than was called for. Vitriolic evenâŠ
Can we get the replay that he said 9 ball or mouthed? To finish the controversy. In this video, he said none.
Ref said he mouthed 9-ball. But is there a camera from the other side of the table?
After watching numerous times, mika never made the call regardless if it is apparent he was playing the combo⊠should play by the rules. The poor sportsmanship conduct was unwarranted, de luna was playing by the ref, mika could have conducted himself better. Had it been a shark game, mika would have been ktfo!
I can't wait another Major tournament , mika vs de Luna again.
"Drama Queen" Mika belongs on Jerry Springer as this is not the first time he has had a public meltdown.
whatever. how about i come over with a couple of cops and take some money out of your wallet while they stand right there and pretend i'm not doing it. i'm sure you'd be the epitome of poise and decorum.
This isnât the first shady tactic Jeff has attempted and his shade is well known .
See how that works both ways ?
@@aarbar6615curiousâŠ. Where was Lunaâs shadeïŒ
Mika has gotta learn how to handle himself better than that. This behavior is uncalled for!!!
I didn't hear him call the 9ball in the video but I knew he was going for it.
Neither did I. But every player has to abide by the same set of rules.
Every shot need to be called. Thats obviously for the nine ball but Mike need to tell it where to pocket it.
Yes, it just proves the stupidity of call-shots format.
Pool needs a head to head Mika vs De Luna race. Make it happen.
As I do recall a couple of years back when Strickland shouted at Fu and told him to sit down, the ref told Strickland that he had no right to order another player to sit only the ref can do that. Similarly Mika did the same thing to De Luna and the ref did not react to that. What a shame to the sport with a reaction coming from a professional player like Mika.
believe me when something this absurd happens to you,and it did to me in the past, your voice gets loud when tards try to take a spot/game from you because of a grey zone in a stupid ruling for bad players and amateur.
czcams.com/video/ODUH1SO8z7Q/video.html Steve Davis : You can't talk to a player. (next moment) Commentator : Strickland creates the situation for himself.
Okay but was it the same ref? If not then it doesnât matter.
I donât understand why Mika started yelling at De Luna, before De Luna even asked the ref about clarificationâŠ
Hearing he sharks a lot of people. Many pros donât like him from what I hear. đ€·đœââïž one of my favourite players
Mika should be sanctioned for that unprofessional behavior.
exactly!! De Luna just reacted when he heard the ref called foul and he was hitting on De Luna when in fact De Luna did nothing
Mika was already pissed at DeLuna from earlier in the match refusing to go to his chair when it was Mikas turn at the table
Unfortunately you can hear the conversation that happened outside of the mic range. De Luna was the bad sport here.
Mika being Mika⊠Leopards don't change their spots
Well said
But being a hothead, being cheated from the turn almost, only to have him standing after reversing the decision is just why he reacted that way.
if im de luna corner ...if we meet mika in a match again ...i will not shake my hands to him win or lose.....never....
But deluna is a gentleman, so he will shake hands
@@arpeemac You think what deluna just did is gentlemanlike?
Don't think he called it and the ref got scared and just said he called it after reviewing the video
The only reason people are really talking about this is because of Mika's disgraceful behaviour. Not because of the Ref, De Luna or anything else. Mika disgraced himself!
Right. Melting Iceman.
Unfortunately my 2 cents is that while both players were naturally amped up; Mika's behavior has De Luna smelling like a rose
you will smell like one when you behave like that in the philippines.. i bet
I saw no evidence that De Luna was "amped up". Mika kept eyeballing him and making unnecessary comments. Mika disgraced himself!
Deluna is one of those people who complains when his opponent doesn't call a straight in 10 ball to finish đ. Weaponizing the rules. His intention to shoot the combo was clear. Just sharking Mika and he deserved to get it rubbed in his face
@@Itsmetheguy7 Yeah I didn't at all like the way Jeff carried it on afterwards, still trying to claim Mika called the 5 after the ref finalised the call and throwing his ego around afterwards. If anything he came across worse to me, Mika was justified in being outraged even if he did act a dick about it but Jeff did absolutely nothing except make the situation worse ant continued to antagonise after the situation should have been over with.
Jeffrey did nothing wrong, he stood up because it was called a foul by the referee and Mika took offense on that while Jeffrey was not doing anything, after it was called good, Mika kinda escalated the situation and yelled at Jeffrey and that was the problem, Jefferey stood up again went to the referee and complained the behavior of Mika. Mika was also exaggeratedly calling and point where the shoot will be afterwards.
Agreed. Mika could have kept his mouth shut and just shot the ball. But Jeff played a part in this too and Mika Was the one shooting and trying to keep his concentration.
Deluna literally was talking to mika while sitting down. Mika was tired of his mouth lmao
Mika is still not over that SVB comeback. đ
Mika shouldn't have over reacted but anyone who knows pool knows what mika was doing shouldn't have to call a pocked if its obvious in my opinion but different rules for different tournaments
Usually the line of what shots need to be called or not is whether you can direct pot the lowest numbered ball on the table and whether the pocket it'll be going in is the only pocket the ball can be potted without hitting any rails or other numbered ball. As Mika wasn't trying to pot the 5 (lowest numbered ball) and not trying to pot the 5 directly into the corner pocket(the only pocket available without hitting other numbered balls or rails), he has to call the shot. Therefore it would be Mika's fault if he didn't call the 9 ball in the side pocket.
If some obvious combo is considered "obvious shot", it would've been a bigger controversy cuz De Luna could claimed that it wasn't a direct pot of 5 ball hence not a straight forward shot while Mika thought that it was a straight forward shot as 5-9 combo is already lined up. And the referees would be in a tough spot as referee shouldn't be the one who decides the match and rather they're just there to make sure players are following the rules and treat both players equally. Yes I know this is "dirty" or unsportsmanlike but this is what could happened and what's needed to be avoid.
@@anferneeleung694 Even the announcer who isn't anywhere near a professional called the shot and knew what pocket it was going in. De Luna is dirty and that's a fact! He can't beat him straight up so he had to try something like this.
All combos and banks have to be called no matter how obvious. Average 10 ball players know this.
Nine ball was not the object ball. Object ball means the ball in which the cue ball should have made the first contact. It was a combination shot. Therefore, Mika the Bully, should have called "Nine ball side pocket."
The rule is calling the pocket eventhough it's stupid
Just by watching this urges me to rewatch every filipino pool player who kicked Mika's ass prior.
bro right!!! hahah
Efren comes to mind.
Communication is key. In a situation like that, the ref has to be more diligent and pay attention to what the player is doing. The fact that itâs so evident should make it even easier to claim that he didnât call the shot (if itâs clear in the rules that the player MUST âverbalizeâ combinations) and this whole ordeal would have been as easy as, âI was waiting for you to call the combination, and you didnât.â But instead.. the lack of attention from the ref really made this situation involve both players, when it really shouldnât have.
This is not the refs fault. *The responsibility was on Mika only.* Rules were explained at the beginnng of this tournament. It is the player's responsibility to ensure the Ref heard his intentions. *No problems with 127 other players - Only Mika.* Then he verbally assuaults his opponent. This would not have went like this in a regular pool hall!
Geraldo being Geraldo.
@@kelvikelv5322 yeah ur right i agree rules is rules and it should be implemented in the game no matter whats the situation is. it should be followed at all times ... i think theres nothing wrong with the ref.. he definitely call it right. its mika's fault not aware of calling his nxt shot even it was a clear shot he should call his shot to be recognize by the official or ref .. and worst his really insulting his opponent that was no bad intentions at all but to stand what is on the floor going on . he must be thsnkfull his opponent was not being so rude as him...đđŻ% +
@@kelvikelv5322 I understand where your point lies.. but, in any situation where there is a foul, the deciding factor is the ruling of the ref. Which ultimately lies on ensuring the ref is aware of Mikaâs actions: And yes, that includes following the same rules the other 163 players followed. Enforcing the rule means that the intention of the ref is assumed that they were fully aware of what is and isnât called, and when.
Also.. I think Mika handled it terribly. And yes, he has a history of doing that. Even still.. the ref is there to ensure that the rules are enforced as truthfully and accurately as possible. Sharks will shark. The ref is chosen to be the enforcing factor to ensure that doesnât happen.
Simple fact is the ref reviewed the video and declared Mika DID call the shot, end of story....the fact he acted like a spoiled 5 yr old is another matter
Very unfortunate, the referee allowed himself to be intimated by Mika. Not fair for De Lima.

Banks, Kicks, and Combos are never considered "obvious" according to the rules. Even though it was clearly obvious what he was shooting at, if the rules were followed this wouldn't have happened. Mika's ego got the best of him.
Exactly. And there's no room for barking at your opponent and trying to intimidate them...
Mika's reaction is completely justified. He called it and that little weasel tried to scam him out of his shot. He should've thrown a piece of chalk at him. lol

Ref was meek and absent during this whole thing. We need some UFC refs in our sport. Don't take this garbage from anyone and put them in their place when they get out of line. Mika should've been reprimanded. Intimidating your opponent or making a mockery of the game has no place here...
Listen to this with headphones on. Though the shot was obvious, the recording shows that Mika did not call the 9-Ball. Mika could've gestured to the 9-Ball too, off-camera, where we couldn't see it. There's a reason rule books are written. I believe the refs weren't paying attention but I've got no proof. Yes, De Luna was sharking but Mika would've done the same thing. If there is any uncertainty, you've got to go by the rulebook. Sharking or not, technically, De Luna was correct and the refs made the wrong decision. The refs should've showed both players the tape.
Listen at 0:08, Mika says "5 combo". Whether or not that's considered a legal pocket call is a different discussion.
seem like the only one heard 5=9 was the commentary , Mika sound softly on the call was not Noticeable, but every call was after the drama
@@bosox-pk9jp Listened to it with headphones. Could not hear it. Mika also said that he said "9-ball" not "5 combo."
â@@davidhunternyc1 I'm not sure what to tell you then. I also listened with headphones and he says "5 combo". It's not nearly as audible as the commentary that immediately proceeds it but that's what he said. If he said anything about the 9 after that, the commentary would drown it out and we would not be able to hear it. Nothing in this clip has him saying 9 audibly.

Its the referee's responsibility to make sure every shot is being watched and all the rules must followed. I remember when a referee cost Efren a rack against Mika years back for not calling the nine ball and its was a good call. What was this referee doing?
De Luna was wrong to call that, it was obvious- but Mika should've kept his cool.
De luna didnt call it⊠ref called it
Everyone jumping on Mika. What about De Luna for trying to push for it? He knows Mika was shooting the 9. Weak sportsmanship to try to call him for that. Donât blame Mika for getting pissed
"Push for it?" He did that AFTER Mika screamed at him. And he has every right to talk to the ref, to push for whatever as long as it is done respectfully. What players don't have the right to do is scream at their opponents.

Normal excited reaction of someone who waits for his opponent to make a mistake.
A mistake by the ref. But Mika didnt have to go whining and yelling at his opponent. And then calling the rest of the balls is just plain disrespectful to the ref.

It's 2023 and predator should have shown the replay/audio of that 9 ball call hahahahhahha. Pretty amazing turn of events. That's why Mika is no match to our Filipino Legends back in the day.

I think he done that to escalate the situation

No Macaroni Cup for Mika.
It looks like Jeff was trying to say that he didn't hear anything - underscoring the ref's initial thought that he hadn't called the shot. Mika should have kept his cool, but it feels like I understood what he was doing. Then after the ref made the decision Jeff tried to challenge it. That was real bad imo. Both should have acted much better.
after the ref made the decision and rescinded his initial call, Jeff was just sitting down, but then Mika started shouting at his face đ that's when Jeff stood back up to ask for clarification. not sure why the officials didnt just show the players the footage they were looking at to settle the disagreement.
