This video explains the ECU circuit board and demonstrates the way of crank and cam signal simulation to run the ECU and perform the different testing.
The engine ECU controls the injection of the fuel to the engine and the timing of the spark to ignite it. It determines the position of the rotation using a Crankshaft Position Sensor so that the injectors and ignition system are activated at precisely the correct time. It uses also number of sensor to read the status of the engine in order to run the engine at optimum performance.
The input to the ECU includes the following sensors:
Crank Position Sensor
Cam Position Sensor
Knock Sensor
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
Manifold Absolute Pressure or MAP Sensor
Mass Air Flow or MAF Sensor
Oxygen/O2/Lambda Sensor
Fuel Pressure Sensor
Engine Speed Sensor
Throttle Position Sensor
The output from the ECU includes the following devices:
Injectors
Throttle body control
Ignition coil
Load relay output
Malfunction lamp
Fuel pump

Hi man great video out there..
I have e46 325i igot icv error sometime when engine is hot and run slow about 55km/h. These problem is intermitent. Is it any posiblility ecu foulty or wiring problem? Thanks in advance

Pure gold. Thank you so much. Can you tell me where to find pinout diagrams? I have problem with my Mercedes bosch me 2.0 not providing sufficient ground for the fuel pump, trunk lock and probably some other minor circuits. Maybe they have something in common

Try to search the web using the ECU part number this some time works, there is also free application( Carmin) try to install it contains many brands, paid application like All data can be best option.

Nice video. It would be nice to have some explanation on which are the (minimum) required signals to have the ECU working on the bench. What signals are injected for simulation? Is there any video that explain and provide schematics for your custom setup?

That's may differ from ECU type to other, also it depends on the problem I am trying to solve, for example if no fuel pump output then I may just need to simply power up the ECU and provide ignition swith input to verify, but if no injector or ignitor output then I may need to get crank signal as well, some other problems related to performance may need more sofsticated ECU simulator to diagnose.

Or try free software like Carmin std available, Alldata software is paid professional software.

This generator is based on means michanical rotation plus electronic signal conditioning circuit.

Sir i have a dought about how we will disable the immo while the ecu testing in bench
The ECU will respond to the simulation signals even though the immobilizer is enabled but using low RPM or crank signals this is enough to test the basic functions, if higher RPM is required then the ECU will stop responding then yes doing immo off will be needed.

Hi,
Start by basic electronics, and take some un-used ECU for Hands-on, repairing ECU is not much different from other electronic devices.
How to find ignition pin in a ecu
Unless you have the pinout diagram is not very easy to know ignition input exactly by just tracing the board, it is much easier to identify example the ground, B+ power, injector output and ignitor output without pin diagram.
