  • In this Tutorial, we'll see about How to a simple Led Chaser circuit using IC CD4017 & demonstration. CD4017 IC is a decade counter which counts from 1 to 10. It counts 1 value for 1 clock pulse. For clock pulse, you can use any clock pulse generator. I'm using Astable Multivibrator(Check Astable Multivibrator video • Astable Multivibrator ... for components).
    EDITING MISTAKE:
    0:22 It is 16 pin Ic base Not 14 pin.

    Hi, can I adjust the duty cycle of the 4017 output, so that the LEDs will turn on in shorter flashes instead

  • @tommstanley6021
    @tommstanley6021 Před rokem

    I am using a potentiometer to control and slow down the speed of the 555 and the LM4017 outputs. I'm wanting the LED's to fade when they come on and off and I am experienced with many different circuits that fade LED's. I have tried basic cap and resistor pairings at the LED's and also by using the 4017 outputs to drive bc547's transistors that turn on the LED's, again with different arrangements of caps and resistors on the base and/or emitter sides and I've also tried resistor/cap arrangements that can turn square waves triangle or sine, with and without the transistors. In all cases, I can get a very controllable fade out of the LED's but cannot get them to fade on. Is there something about the output of an LM4017 that will not allow it's waveform to change or for a capacitor to slowly charge? Or something else that I just can't figure out?

    Good video...
    I am the only one noticing the resistors are mounted between the IC and the LEDs in the video while the circuit says the other way around?
    Also, provided that there is always only one LED lit, why do you need 10 resistors while one between the LEDs and the ground, as LEDs are diodes with no feedback to expect?
    Cheers

    • @SDevElectronics
      @SDevElectronics  Před 5 lety

      By checking 4017 Datasheet,
      If 5V as VCC, output voltage is 4.95V.
      If 15V as VCC, output voltage is 14.95V.
      Likewise for 12V, you get 11.95V at Output Pin..
