    I was invited to play with Dweezil in the Zappa Plays Zappa band when they first toured Australia in around 2007? I was shocked when Steve asked me to play Evo on the gig. It was like Clapton asking me to play Blackie or David Gilmour asking me to play the black strat. A moment I'll never forget. To play one of the most historic guitars owned by one of the greatest guitarists, musicians, composers in history....amazing. Thanks Steve!

    When I went to get my first guitar at a Guitar Center in Las Vegas in 2006, Steve Vai was there. As a teenager at the time, I didn't know who he was -- but I just happened to pick an Ibanez as my first guitar, and he signed it for me. I remember he was really nice -- and I wish I knew who he was back then. Besides two employees at that section, I was pretty much alone with him for 30 whole minutes.

    I've been listening to Steve since the Attitude Song came out in Guitar Player magazine in 84, I was just a kid. I still have the vinyl disc that came in the magazine. I don't like seeing Vai grow old. Maybe I'm foreshadowing, because I'm 47 now.

      It's kinda hard to accept that all these 80s virtuosos are pushing or past 60...Satch, Vai, Timmons, Yngwie, Vinnie Moore, Michael Angelo Batio. Even Paul Gilbert who used to be the young kid has aged. Meanwhile Marty Friedman still looks the same as Rust in Peace era.

      FLO (the first one) actually was a floral pattern guitar repainted white! It was a main guitar for about 10 years (1999-2009), and from some speculation it is thought that it was one of his main skyscraper guitars, that had the monkey grip destroyed by thomas mcrocklin (hence the new paint job, chosen as the 7vwh was becoming the new standard model)

    Always thought (actually told in various guitar magazines in the nineties) the flo guitars were repainted floral Jems, that were given the white treatment because he wasn't pushing the floral jems anymore for Ibanez, as they weren't making them... but loved a couple of the floral jems, and wanted to keep them and use them on the road, so had them made up to look like the newer white jems he was pushing at the time.

    • @KandyMan90
      @KandyMan90 Před 2 lety

      I think this is mentioned on his website as well. He has All About Evo and All About Flo and if I'm not misremembering you're right he described Flo as a repainted floral JEM that even had the neck pocket converted to the new style AANJ to fit the new necks on it. Maybe one of the Flo models was the story he told in this video but he's always said everywhere else it was previously a floral JEM

    I envy Steve. He still has his first "real guitar", a Fender Stratocaster (10:10). I'm about Steve's age and I also got my first "real guitar" at the age of 16. Opposed to Steve, who got money from his mother, I worked all Summer in a stinking steel factory to save the money. I also modified my Strat but only as far as that I could revert it back to the original. I remember sweating as to whether I should route out the single coil cavity to be able to fit a Bill Lawrence humbucker... and I did. But because it sounded horrible, I put the single coil back in. Had I not moved around so much, I'd probably still have my Strat and early Ibanez guitars. Great video. I enjoyed it.
