    Great work! I don't sweat the paint job! Your grandson will love it. I need to restore some old beaters before my grandson gets older. Right now, he throws everything, so I have a little time.

    I think it is good that your grandson gets to play with them, this will ensure another generation gets to enjoy these toys, and while these cars look great on a shelf, this is not what they were meant for. and when he is older perhaps he will clean them up and let his kids play with them.

    Sweet! I love to see the old cars come back to life. To me they are just as valuable as the un restored cars and even more so in some cases, especially when they were ready for the trash before hand. Great Job Bro!

    Little guy is going to love it! I just did a 67-68 Redline firebird convertible.I used actual Pontiac code-Q Verdoro green enamel paint that I had left over from an actual 68 GTO project.Did have to order a new windshield for it. Reused the stock wheels, just touched them up, which took a lot of time.Turned out pretty nice. Love watching your work.

    the "tape" that was on it was part of the racing stripe decals it had. Back in the day instead having to put on and align 4 stickers (1 each stripe) it was 2 stripes on one sticker.

      Welcome to the wonderful world of Diecast collecting and restoration. for most of us its just like you said, a desire to reclaim that little scale dream car from our youths, and along the path, you find so many interesting side tracks of the hobby, like customizing, or scale 1/4 or 1/2 mile downhill racing with car that are "tuned" to go as fast as possible. its an amazing hobby, with so many years of scaled down works of art and a good variety of manufacturers to choose from ;) have fun!

    paint, shmaint. you couldve painted it dark brown and it wouldnt make a difference, as from my perspective, you have taken a broken piece of art, and made it whole again, gave it a nice shiny new suit and some comfy new shoes, now it can be played with or displayed, proudly gleaming like it did the first day it came out of the blister....thanks for taking the time to share the process with us, i learn something all the time from these videos ;)

    That steel wire brush scratches the heck out of those pot metal car bodies. You can see all the scratches in the body from the brusu under the ppainy. Get a less abrasive one. Such as brass maybe. harbor freight sells them for a couple bucks.

    • @painkillersclan
      @painkillersclan Před 7 lety

      some paint finishes on some diecast castings are extra thick and it takes a really strong or a long multi dip bath to remove all the paint, especially those more expensive collectors hot wheels castings, i bought a can from wal mart, came with a spray bottle taped to the side, i poured it into a pickle jar, use an old hard drive magnet on the top of the lid, and some pieces of wire cut to the depth of the jar with a hook end to hang the bodies on...put cars in the goop, pull and rinse. re dip if needed ;) but it stinks so i dip outside, the spray used here in the video is waaaay better for indoors and in general for the environment ;) i will replace my goop with it next time i need paint stripper.

    Use carburetor cleaner to remove the paint. Go to the dollar store, buy a can for 3 bucks, stick the straw in it and spray away. It'll eat it off immediately, and there's very little fumes. I paint cars for a living, and have tried everything to clean my paint guns. Carb cleaner is the quickest and least expensive way.... On another note, I enjoy your videos of those old Hot Wheels. I grew up in a poor household, so something as luxurious as a fancy 1/64 diecast car was a rare treat!

    Just a suggestion, After wire-wheeling it, you could use a 1200 grit sand paper to smooth out the ruff spots, then buff and polish. Makes the spectra-flame look much better. also instead of wire-wheeling the motor's there is a Chrome-paint pen that you can use that will give the motors a MIRROR Chrome look, I use it all the time. Also, dressing this casting up with the white strips and racing numbered decal would have given it a better look all around......Just my assessment.......Good selection on the Deep-dish bright chrome tires. They are all I use....Look me up on Facebook for my 250+ Redline Restorations.....Mark Richard Ah-Low.......

    should have used the file on those edges. It needed more body work. Love that color tho...

    Do you not use primer on your paint jobs

    • @WheelsNThangs
      @WheelsNThangs  Před 6 lety

      Not on the transparent style ones.. Defeats the purpose with primer.

    Meh... Baremetal would have worked on the body a little more to get those dings and divots out. Looks okay, but I think you'd be more satisfied with the time and effort you put into it if you worked on the body a little more and made it look like you put more effort into it. Still great though. Cool to have a restored Redline.

      Yeah, I've watched a few of his in the last week or so. I don't have that kinda time on my hands and these are literally given to a 4 year old shortly after they are filmed. Thank you for the comment!

    I grew up in the era of redlines & am sorry to say I DESTROYED SO MANY WITH A HAMMER or rock....whatever was closest. I am sorry I guess, but it was fun at the time.
    ...just don't get me started on how many thousands worth of cards I put in my spokes
