Always loved your channel for the way you hold these books in such high regard - something so may beginners to Magic could do with doing but, in my opinion, we are in the era of laziness. i see some people puts the index finger ,which takes the top packet, next to other fingers which hold the bottom packet. it becomes easier. can we use it? or is it a wrong way?
Great tutorial. Your channel is my favorite. Do you know why? Because you talk about the history of the moves, and if you do that more frequently, that would be great.
Now, I have a question. When I execute the pass, my index finger from my left hand is stretched out, and it flashes. Is it only a beginner issue? Also, a video with an exposed front view would be great.
I always try to give some context. It just helps to keep the larger view in perspective. To your question: No, it´s not only a beginner issue. I have seen a lot of real great, real life performance videos, that get a ton of negative or critical comments, because of a "shitty" pass. I believe this is because a young generation of magicians or better novices of the art have this misconception of the pass being a sleight, that happens when the audience is looking at the hands. It´s quite the opposite. The pass is mend to be performed in a so called off beat, exactly at the moment where the attention of the onlookers goes away from the hands. Because of that the whole move is invisible or better it is not happening at all. At about 5:50 of this video czcams.com/video/fIfoAWVYP9g/video.html you will see me perform a top change, that perfectly works with my spectator. The camera however is not misdirected. With the pass it´s exactly the same. Of course, the cleaner you can get it, the better. But don´t go nuts. Your pass might already be working just fine, if you give it a try....
Just started working on my pass. As I have experienced with some another card techniques (like the opening moves of the one-handed shuffle), I have found myself a little (or a lot) out of breath after completing the movement. I guess part of the reason for this is simply that I am exercising hand muscles that don’t normally get exercised. So I suppose some of this will fade over time. When you practice or perform card routines, though, are you consciously directing your breath at all? Is this something that could be relevant for learning the pass?
Please do not forget to breath while practicing the pass. That would have severe consequences! 😂😅😆

Ich geben zu: ich war zuerst skeptisch. Bisher hatte ich dem Zeigefinger wenig Beachtung geschenkt. Nach Deinem Video hab ich es probiert und war immer noch skeptisch: es fühlte sich seltsam an (ich hatte bisher das obere Paket nur mit dem Mittel- und Ringfinger nach unten gezogen). Aber wenn man es ein paar Mal bewusst auch mit Zeigefinger macht, er muss dabei gar nicht unbedingt ganz nach oben aufs Paket finde ich zumindest, dann merkt man durchaus, dass der Pass schneller und mit weniger Handbewegung ausgeführt wird. Sehr cooler Tip, vielen Dank! :)
Bei Kunstgriffen dieser Art sind es oft kleine, bis kleinste Details, die den Braten fett machen. Neben der Volte ist der "diagonal palm shift" von Erdnase z.B. einer der verzerrtesten Kunstgriffe auf CZcams. Und wegen falscher Handhabe kommen viele nie zu reibungslosen Darbietungen. Man denkt dann, man ist noch nicht schnell genug und muss mehr üben. Am Ende kommen super schnelle staccato Darbietungen raus. Dann machen die Leute Tutorials und stecken andere an mit ihrer "Krankheit". Es gibt in jedem Sprachraum mindestens einen Zauber-Kanal mit teilweise enormer Reichweite, da unterrichten Leute, die eigentlich nicht mal wissen, wie man ein Kartenspiel richtig hält. Das Kreuz auf CZcams ist, dass man nur schwer Didaktik vermittelt bekommt, also eine Ordnung und Struktur der Lehrinhalte. Womit fängt man an und womit hört man auf und wie nutzt man es dann? Hier auf CZcams arbeiten sich Leute an Lehrinhalten für Fortgeschrittenne und Profis ab, ohne sich nur ansatzweise mit den Grundlagen beschäftigt zu haben. Schwierigste Kunstgriffe werden ohne Sinn und Verstand hintereinander geschaltet. Alter Du hast mich getriggert! 😅 Bei mir ... sind alle immer erstmal skeptisch, wenn sie mit ihren krummen Fingern auflaufen.😏
Zwar nicht mehr im Comment, aber... Assad? Ich bin verwirrt. Egal. Und man darf ja immer skeptisch sein, solang man danach so offen ist und es trotzdem probiert. Ich beschäftige mich noch nicht sooo lang mit Kartenmagie und SoH, darum würde ich nicht behaupten, dass ich den Pass schon gelernt habe ;) Ich lerne noch immer und ich ziehe dafür gern verschiedenste Quellen zu Rate, seien es Bücher oder Videos. Falls Du das russische Genie meinst: ja, da fehlt jegliche Ordnung im Vermitteln der Inhalte. Aber es gibt aber einige andere, die sich nicht verstecken müssen.
Der Pass braucht seine Zeit, also gut schon Mal damit anzufangen. Als Anfänger, wenn Du einer sein solltest, aber nicht darauf versteifen. Andere Sachen, alle Mischtechniken und vor allen Dingen, das Markieren von Karten mit dem kleinen Finger sind viel wichtiger. Auch dem Dublieren darfst Du gerne viel mehr Zeit als dem Pass oder der Volte einräumen. Der Pass wird erst wirklich interessant, wenn Du ein Zeitgefühl in Darbietungssituationen bekommst. Dann wird der Pass zur Wunderwaffe, wenn Du das dann überhaupt noch für Nötig erachtest. Das sind zumindest meine Erfahrungen. Wie lange bist Du denn schon dabei?
Seit Ende letzten Jahres (also wirklich blutiger Anfänger) Und ja, vieles ist noch vernachlässigt und vieles noch nicht genug beübt (vor allem die Mischtechniken). Der Pass ist aber etwas, was sehr viel Spaß macht zu üben, das ist wohl das Verhängnisvolle :) Aber ich mach das ja mehr für mich, als für ein großes Publikum, einfach weil ich es extrem interessant finde und es Spaß macht die Fingerfertigkeit zu trainieren. Für eine Zauberkarriere bin ich schon zu alt ;)
Could do with some advice here (I'm brand new to this stuff) - I can only ever seemingly manage to slide the top card off the stack, and I am genuinely squeezing pretty damn hard with my middle & ring finger ;( ;( ;(
Firstly, this is easily one of the best Classic Pass tutorials I've seen, why the hell are there only 27 likes?!? Second, I keep practising the pass, but my biggest problem is the cards of the packet that moves from the top to the bottom keep separating, and tips on avoiding this?
Thank you so much. I donno what´s happening. CZcams is not working properly lately, I guess. 😩 Than about your problems with the pass. First of all this is a good sign, because you are holding a loose grip. This is where you want to go back to later after compressing things a little for a while. Try this: holding the starting position, press downwards with 1st, 2nd and 3rd fingers bending both packages. this brings a lot of pressure onto the back of the pinky sticking in the gap, right!? Try to maintain this tensed down pressure of the fingers while stretching them out. The top package should now come off nice and clean. This feels completely uncomfortable and wrong. But thats how you practice to clip the package between the pinky and the rest of the fingers. By the way the pressure you apply onto the top package while carrying it away also defines the speed of snapping motion, when the package falls back into the palm. So this is high end definition of what´s going down....
Thanks for that, I'll work on that in my next (and future) practice sessions. Should the lower packet be in contact with the upper as you raise it, or completely clear? Because it has a tendency to drag cards out of alignment (this could just be me gripping too loosely again though).
The outer short side of the upper package glides over the lower package. As soon as the top package flips vertikal the pressure of the fingers pushes it against the right long side of the lower pack. Both packs should be griped tight enough to keep them cards together, but also loose enough to actually open the hand. This is a game of pressure balance, you need to find the right time for all them muscle movements come together and than all together relaxing the hand.
Thanks (again), I think I'm doing it right, just holding them too loose. I can't have a play right now as I don't have any cards with me (which in itself is rather unusual). I'll update you sometime in the future on how well I'm getting on ;^>

What exactly should I do with my left index finger? I can't seem to exert strength with it when it is at that position. I used to practice the classic pass while holding the deck in the mechanic's grip. I didn't know it should be by the side of the deck.
So your index is just stretched out when performing the pass. Just integrate it into the pulling motion that your 2nd and 3rd fingers already are doing. You overall handling becomes smoother by doing so. Also this becomes relevant with my handling of the dribble pass. Check it out and you will see. I’m doing what you said with my 1st 2nd and 3rd fingers to push the top half off I think, but it won’t come off at all. I’m so confused
Don´t be confused. It is actually the 1st real challenge of mastering the pass, to pull the top pack away within the motion of basically just opening the hand. Just try, very slowly, simply to open the hand. Holding the proper grip, the pack will be carried away automatically. Keep trying, you will figure it out! You can do it!
My pinky finger is always hurted when i pull the top packet to the bottom. Do you have any advice?
Yeah, the pinky is very involved in this one. Just build up the muscles and power slowly over time. So no pain no gain, but give your hands and fingers time to catch up on the new load.

How do you keep the top packet together? Mine is always distributed all over the floor in the middle of each attempt :-(
Start from the proper grip explained in the tutorial and do the move slowly and with extreme focus on a clean execution. Steadily very slowly increase speed. Take your time. The goal is to minimize the time crawling on the ground picking up the cards to 99,99%. You can do it! I´ve been there, too. :)
OTHMARIUS MAGIC thanks! I think I’m getting there. The key seems to be the index finger of the lower hand. This finger has to prevent the packet from pivoting around the pinky (since ring and middle finger are pushing it into a circular movement revolving around the pinky). Now I guess I just need to practice practice practice.

is it normal that I need to rise up the right-upper half of the deck to let the bottom one to slide down over it?? because I see in the video that your right hand and its half of the deck stays still (apparently?) instead of helping the bottom half to pass with no friction...
You want to avoid the motion of the upper pack, you are describing. This however makes it much harder for the left hand. I actually practiced to keep the right hand pack as steady as possible for a while. After a while the left hand gets strong enough and the whole move should start getting looser as you continue to practice. Why the Pass is more valuable than the Hermann Pass which I consider not only easier but also less detectable?
It depends on the routine, I'd say. Although both techniques achieve basically the same thing. In some situation the Pass will be the better option. Same is true for the Hermann in other situations.
When it comes to the Pass's detectability it is not only a question of technical mastery, but also of general performance skills.

My hands are quite small too for poker sized cards, xD, i barely can palm so the deck keeps hitting my hand, on briged sized decks it works nicely
@@Othmarius Hey man i finally got it good enough to perform it!, i did it with my dad while he was burning my hands and he didin't catch a thing, my brother didin't either and he knows the move, the only diffence tho is that i preffer my thumb to be on top of the deck instead of on the side, it works better for me and much much cleaner, i got used to doing it on a brige sized deck and moved to a poker sized, after about 3 tries i got the same speed and finess
