Thanks! Will do!
Great StarCraft . I rebuilt a 1967 a few years ago had to cut deck out. Working on a 1974 Seanymph now . I enjoy and learn from your videos.
Very cool! Thanks for watching and commenting
Strong work. Looking forward to a complete tear down of the MC1 generation out drive!
Me too, Thanks for watching
If you have the time & tools,...well, you got your work cut out for ya'...personally, I'd be cutting out & rebuilding the floors completely. Anytime a boat is exposed to the elements (& rain) for a period of years, pretty much the wood structures are toast.
PS, our family boat...my folks 16 1/2 foot Seaswirl, bought semi-new in 1973....It's been moving from family member to family member...three or four replacement outboards later, the stern when the latest engine was installed....water came out of the transom when new holes were drilled. The fiberglass is undamaged & all the chrome trim is there & undamaged...the extra waterlogged weight along with the mismatched engine (Too light a weight), makes for funky handling.
Definitely have to research the floatation foam and make plans from there.
That smell in the corn processing plants...Clinton Corn Processing unless they have changed the name over the years
Trailer is for a much longer boat, 18-19'
that's kinda what I thought it was, in Cedar Rapids there are a lot of corn processing plants and they smell too, thanks for watching. I will be making some trailer adjustments for sure.
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina I remember that smell vividly. Grandparents lived in Clinton and wasn't too far from that sinking plant...LOL
Do you still have this boat? I know its a year ago when this video was done. I just recently purchased a 1980 Campion with same motor and leg setup but have no identification labels on the out drive and transom. I am in need of a model or serial number to buy some parts and have no idea how to identify it properly.
Nice rescue. I hope everything pans out with the boat, it looks like it could be a good one. The head on the engine did look a bit different. I wonder if it’s a marine head and the starter which you had already pointed out. Did you get a chance to test the floor for soft spots?
Keep up the great and I look forward to the up coming videos
Thanks,
Tim
I will check the floor out when it gets drier and a bit warmer. Thanks for watching, it may not be a marine head, I will be looking at it closely
I just inherited a 1980's StarCraft( sight unseen), I have concerns about it not being winterized but it was sitting in a Quonset hut for about 2-3 years ( it may have been heated.) If the engine block is cracked what can I expect to pay to fix/replace? I'm a car guy marine stuff is over my head. It's 2.5hrs away from me I just wanna hedge my bets is all. Thanks
Don't pay to fix it, buy another boat with the same motor, there are tons out there for less than $500 and do an engine swap. If you work on cars you can work on boats. Nothing to be afraid of. thanks for watching, I drive to pick up sight unseen boats no worries.
I'm in Alberta Canada, the price for pleasure craft is through the roof, a 14' 1980 lund with a 6hp 1950s evenrude will cost you $4500. I've also been told it was prepared professionally for storage so I'm feeling better about the state of it. It's actually been sitting in the Quonset hut since 2009. So, now it's more a concern about if mice have gotten into it.
How would you register the boat with no paperwork?
I will be covering that in up coming video's thanks for watching
Ability and difficulty depends on the state you live in. Most are a PITA but if you're persistent it can be done.
are you sure you're not a contestant on the price is right
??? lol looks like its not a total disaster should make some good content.
Come on down and see what you have won, ..... another can I save this boat......congrats.....LOL
