    • @fabulouslychocolate
      @fabulouslychocolate Před 6 měsíci +3

      You have to use heat protectants!! I have clients that like to wear their hair straight and natural. And the only way to keep them from having heat damage is by using heat protectants. Every time you shampoo your hair, your curls should all be the same. If it’s kinky at the roots, and the rest of the hair shaft is wavy, you have heat damage!

    This is such an awesome video! I haven't heat styled my hair in yrs, but your process is absolutely right. Clean hair and tools are key. I've had natural hair my whole life. My process has been to use a clarifying shampoo, cholesterol treatment, cool water rinse, Infusium 23 liquid leave in, rollerset, hood dry, hit the roots/ends w a Marcel iron, leave the length untouched. No other products other than the leave in. My hair looked like Tatyana Ali! So silky and full of body!

    • @Ashley-og9ti
      @Ashley-og9ti Před 4 měsíci +1

      What's a cholesterol treatment?? I've heard of protein treatments ..what do you use? And for roller set you just roll in jumbo and the direction if you were curling it while it's wet then sit under the dryer? Do you do that instead of blowdrying?

    • @JG_SmileSOBright
      @JG_SmileSOBright Před 4 měsíci

      @@Ashley-og9ti Cholesterol is an old school protein & moisturizing deep treatment. Queen Helene, LeKair Cholesterol Plus, and Hollywood Beauty Olive are the brands I use, w LeKair being my fave. You apply to towel dried hair (after a clarifying shampoo) and leave in for 30min w a plastic cap (hooded dryer for optimal results). Rinse in cool water. Med magnetic rollers (secured w hair clips), hooded dryer. Less harsh than blowdrying and gives more body. The rollers provide tension to straighten the hair so you don't have to do so much ironing. I roll the top & crown backwards, the sides down, and the nape upward. Use the thinnest rattail comb you can find (the one w a metal tail), small sections, and drench in Infusium as you roll. The tighter the roll, the straightener the hair. That's why you don't want the rollers too big. If set well enough, the flat iron can be skipped and you can just wrap your hair after removing the rollers. If the roots are wavy, just iron them out. But you want to keep the fullness from the set so don't go all the way down.
      I have 4a hair w a very fine/silky texture. Not sure if you can see in my profile pic, but if your hair is anything like mine or looser, this will work.
      There's a video w Chili from TLC getting her hair done exactly how I described.

    So let me get this straight.
    To silken your hair one needs to:
    •Throughly wash their hair.
    •Use a liquid like leave in( no heavy cream)
    •Us a heat protectant that is liquid as well preferably the one that comes in a spray bottle. (If you only have a serum use a tear drop)
    •Throughly blow dry
    •Flatiron transparent parts of hair.
    How does one combat humidity though?

    • @NiaraAlexis
      @NiaraAlexis  Před rokem +10

      @@lexnthecityyy ok. Those sound good. Might want to try chasing to see if they helps and make sure your ends are clipped. Also I’d look at how big your section are. If your hair is puffy you might need to flat iron smaller sections to get all the hair striaght

    I already straightened my hair twice within this same week and it's still giving kinky blowout vibes. After years of wigs and fenugreek my hair is finally ALMOST THERE to the middle of my back (its shoulder length in its blow out state) and I'm so excited to show off and feel good, but between my tymo straightening brush and my big sisters flat irons I don't know who's winning or losing. Please send backup.

    • @NiaraAlexis
      @NiaraAlexis  Před rokem +12

      My go to flatiron is the GHD platinum plus. Please try not to flatiron too much or else all your head work is going to get fried! I’d also look at your blow dry technique. The straighter you can get your blow dry the better your flatiron will turn out. Also, idk where you live but if it’s warm and summer like weather I’d honestly give it a rest and wear protective styles until it cools down in the fall/the humidity is gone. That’s what I do every summer

      @@far6311 I live in chicago too! The weather has been crazy lately 😩. I’d also try a reversion product like the color wow dream coat. Otherwise I’d try to give it a break until the cooler months. I don’t really wear a silk press in the summer it’s too much to try to keep straight and I’ll just end up damaging my hair trying

    Okay so what if it’s your first time in a few years doing a silk press and your hair is very dry and thick and also low porosity. How would I go about it getting silky straight. I flat iron the first time and it was straight but very pouffy

    • @NiaraAlexis
      @NiaraAlexis  Před rokem +7

      Ok so I think what you have to remember is a silk press is a bit more than just flat ironing the hair. It’s making sure you get every strand straight from root to tip. If you’re not chasing your hair that’s a big thing that can change your silk press. (I’ll have a video on that coming soon!) if your hair is dry make sure you are treating it with deep conditioner & moisturizing but light weight products. Also when I want my hair very silky I use a higher heat temperature. I usually stay around 350 or so but will increase that closer to 400 to get a very silky look. Also make sure you are taking your time and pressing out small sections at a time especially for thicker hair. ❤️
