  • You can imagine how my chains occasionally get ridiculously tangled. I've figured out a pretty good technique for untangling them and I'll share them with you in this video.

    I have been trying to untangle a chain since October. I found your video today after trying other suggestions. After 20 minutes I untangled it. Many thanks. 🎉😊

    This information is greatly appreciated nearly nine years after you posted it. I've just untangled a gold chair that has stumped me for years. I had the patience but not the knowledge. Thank you for closing that gap! It is now proudly around my neck once again.

    Thanks Calla. Simple and effective, a combination I like. Now I won't be so hesitant to pack a necklace or two for a trip. I love having a personal jeweler.

    THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I used safety pins instead. I found them easier to hold but the method worked great. I was able to fix my moms chain.

    Easy way to untangle any jewelry chain is to use two toothpicks, or any non metal points. Place Gordian knot on smooth table and tap tap tap on knot to relax it with toothpick. Alternate between relaxing knot as needed and pulling away chains from each other with toothpicks. Untangles fast with no damage.

    I noticed one of the chains had a sharp "kink" in it that wasn't addressed. Any advice on removing the kink from a tiny chain?

    • @Callagold
      @Callagold  Před 6 lety

      Often kinks can be worked out by rocking left and right of the kink. Somehow it just goes back into alignment. However some chains when they kink, they actually bend something that working band and forth can't be undone easily.
      There were these awful flat chains that were popular in the 80's. When they kinked they were really hard to coax back into being flat. Even after the twisty turny way they'd ended up was reversed, they still weren't completely flat. I used an iron on a few of them to re-flatten them. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than how they had been.

    Hi Anyssa,
    these chains are about 1 millimeter wide. pretty thin.

    I put the clasp together then wrap the chain around a cotton ball, my chains rarely tangle.

    some one please help me I have a necklace but its 3 chains connected with charms and its my favorite and its all knoted up some please help

    • @Callagold
      @Callagold  Před 8 lety

      Hello Taylor,
      Sometimes when there are charms as well as clasps it is too difficult to pull the chain out of its various knots. In this case as a jeweler I cut the end ring off of one or more of the chains. The chain ends are now so tiny that I can get them through the charm bails. (The part that the chain goes through)
      In one case the chain was wrapped around the base of the bail and there was hair involved, so I cut the bail off. After untangling the chains I soldered the bail back on the charm and the end ring back on the chain and all was better. So when all else fails, a jeweler can cut and untangle and re-solder things back together.
      Calla

    • @Callagold
      @Callagold  Před 6 lety

      These chains are 1 to 1.5mm thick and 20" and 18" long I believe.

  • @MrDavePed
    @MrDavePed Před 2 lety

    Use toothpicks they won't scratch your table and they won't damage the chains. Just tap the knot to loosen it.

    • @Callagold
      @Callagold  Před 5 lety

      Toothpicks would work well. I like that the pins I use grab the surface they are on which is helpful.
