    Decent review and the trousers seem good but difficult to know what to trust when every item reviewed is the best piece of kit you’ve ever worn.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  Před 3 lety +16

      Hi, we differ to the usual CZcams 'reviews' in the sense that we're a retailer and we simply wouldn't stock kit we don't love. We're genuinely enthusiastic about all products we shoot Inside Look videos for because they're products we'd actually buy. Narrowing it down will depend on what you're looking for in the trousers, the fit and your budget. Harry

      @@trekitt completely appreciate that Harry and, as said, it’s a decent review. Appreciate you like the kit that you stock (hence the reason for stocking it) just would be helpful for me as a customer of yours to know some down sides. Very few bits of kit are perfect and to understand the pros AND the cons would be more helpful. Doesn’t mean I would buy the item but I would be able to make an objective and informed decision is all. Just my opinion though.

    Great review I went I store today and they are not described as a over trouser but obviously from your review you can wear them as a over trouser also can just wear them as normal trousers when it’s not to cold weather/seasons

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, they're not reaaally overtrousers but they can work as such; especially if you're wearing them over leggings/shorts. Much more versatile than a traditional pair of overtrousers that you'd wear over big walking trousers.

  • @GogsDavies
    @GogsDavies Před rokem

    Love all your "reviews". I ordered a pair of these a while ago based on this video, but only managed to wear them yesterday, and totally agree with the review. They were awesome. I wore them over my Montane Terra pants and felt a little too warm on the lowlands, but pretty spot on when up top. I might need to experiment a bit more on that.
    My only criticism is the leg zips need to be better so you can get them on easily over boots. That said I'd definitely get another pair.

    Could you please describe the main difference between Kinetic 2.0 pants vs. the Alpine version? Thank you very much.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  Před 8 měsíci

      The Kinetic 2.0 pants lose the reinforced nylon panels, so they have a softer handle and are not quite as durable, but do offer more freedom of movement, they are a lighter duty pant compared to the Alpine version.

    I bought a pair of these and on first wear they got absolutely soaked through!!!
    I'm sure they are great (by all accounts) but I guess the pair I bought must need re-waterproofed.
    Does anyone know how to do that? Would it be a case of a spray or wash-in solution? Thanks.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It's unusual for them to soak completely through, especially on first use. How long were you out in the elements for?
      rab.equipment/uk/how-to-wash-your-waterproof-jacket-at-home
      The above guide is direct from Rab, it's aimed at Jackets, but the principle will be the same for your trousers too.

  • @xxwookey
    @xxwookey Před 3 měsíci

    It's 3 years later - are they still waterproof? I've found plenty of waterproof trousers are great when new but after a couple of years you get wet thighs. I don't mind spending money of decent gear but the obsession with lightweight does tend to lead to expensive kit that doesn't last very long, which just seems wasteful.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  Před 2 měsíci

      There's still a number of pairs going strong with some of our customers. As ever there is a compromise between weight and durability. A big part in keeping kit going longer is also the proper care and maintenance of the kit.

    I ordered these pants (36 long) a couple of months back from you guys, and to be honest: I love the way the pants feel (even next to the skin), but even the long version is too short for me...I'm 6,1, so not excessively tall and I'm wearing mid high walking boots (Salomon X Ultra 3 MID GORE-TEX). The pants just barely reach over the top part of these boots, and when I sit down they creep up to nearly half way up my calves...

    Popped in a couple of weeks ago to get a pair of Kangris and your awesome colleague let me try a pair of Alpine 2.0 as a base layer (I turned up I jeans...) Was really surprised by how much I liked them!
    How do you think they compare to something like Keb Actives? Maybe the Rabs are more waterproof but less durable and not quite so good in warmer months? I think I really want a pair damnit.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  Před rokem

      Keb's are tougher and more breathable as there's no membrane, but not waterproof and require regular waxing. The Kinetics really shine in varied weather conditions; think autumn/winter when it's raining one moment and dry the next. I personally wouldn't wear them in spring/summer.

    You said you can wear these stand alone. How low can the temperatures be?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  Před 2 lety

      It's hard to give an accurate answer as it depends how fast you're moving, how much muscle you've got on your legs, altitude, etc. They're not insulated at all, so in sub-zero temperatures when not moving particularly quickly, you may need another layer.

    IMO I think experienced winter cold weather hikers know what they are talking about when it comes to layering and products.
    With that being said I’m not a hiker but I’m a garbage man. I’ve been looking for light weight outer shells for this upcoming winter. Specifically for medium to heavy rain in the winter like around 2C for about a good 4 hours. Do you think that this Rab jacket / pants set is rugged and durable for a garbage man? I do get a clothing allowance so price doesn’t matter but it matters a little bit. I would like this jacket / pants to last at least a couple of years throwing garbage into the back of a trash truck.

      They probably do, but we try to make these videos for all walks of life, from the experienced to the just starting out. In regards to your shell question, I would opt for a 'proper' hardshell such as Rab's Ladakh or Kangri. These are tougher, more weather-resistant and will put up with more abuse. Harry
