Very much appreciated as we had a Chinese Restaurant in Baltimore called the Golden Star that offered it on their menu. It was four six inch prawns that was served with a bed of lettuce and in a high domed serving dish. Made me feel like a king!

Greg, I'm so excited to see this! My father used to make this but this was never on his restaurant menu and I lost him before learning how to do it myself. I can't wait to try it. Thanks so much! - Vivian

      Vivian Tse
Hello Vivian, using thin bacon is best for this dish, to make sure the bacon is cooked before the shrimp.

And I did just that. Exactly how I remember it tasted. Yummy! I served mine on a bed of bean sprouts but using the same seasonings in your video for the onions. Thank you again!

Hubby made this recipe this evening, so yummy and very much the way I remember having at a local Cantonese restaurant in our hometown (northern Ontario) Where all of the Chinese families were from the Cantonese region of China. Been searching for the recipe for yrs now. Thank you Greg Wong for sharing this awesome yummy recipe, we'll definitely make it again and again! ^_^

This is a fairly common dish in the NYC area. I've loved this dish since childhood. The onions though are usually smothered in a tomato based sweet and sour sauce. I wouldn't be surprised if some ketchup was used and usually topped with chopped peanuts. Thanks for the video.!

+abarisol Yes. Kind of a thickened, seasoned chicken broth with ketchup. I watched my dad and uncles make this many times. They made another kind, similar to this, without the ketchup, but it still had the sauce with the onions. Both are favorites of mine. One thing, that Greg didn't mention, is that you use a cornstarch paste to keep the bacon and shrimp together.

I have been looking for this for years. Bambo Gardens in Austin, TX had it on their menu but it was served with a spicy sweet and sour (Szechuan?) sauce with peas and carrots. They recently quit serving it. Any idea how to make a sauce like that?

You did another video of this same recipe but listed all the ingredients, one was a liquid sauce not soy, which I'm trying to find and buy on the internet. Can you suggest a place or internet site to buy Asian, Cantonese, Chinese, and Japanese ingredients? I made this dish Last night and it was awesome! I served it over ramen noodles. I did it once a while ago served it over white rice.

Pastor William Barhorst hello Pastor, first of all thank you for taking the time to watch.
Are you looking for something specific?
I think i listed ingredients for a lobster recipe & that was it. I hope to put a book together soon.
Do you have a Asian market near you? That is where I find all my seasonings also if your looking for a specific sauce or seasoning you can find a lot on Amazon.
I make my sauce from scratch using different soy sauces and other ingredients.
      I hope this helped

I remember this dish, I had this about 40 years ago........they don't have it on the menu any more.....they use to stand up the shrimp on a silver steel stand and the onions in the center......
mmm great video! can't wait when the wonder wok hit the market....
is it propane or nature gas?
