- I am creating a Prospecting 101 Series to help new and veteran prospectors. I will try to keep the content as linear as possible and build off of previous concepts. In this episode I am going to discuss and help you identify the "1st" Chrome prospect card for the players you want to chase! Hope you all enjoy!

thanks for the video!!! i've been hesitant to really investing in Bowman till I had a better sense of the products and this certainly helps.
Great video as always Kyle. Thank you for the content
Great stuff still learning this. It would have been helpful to see 1st edition (and how they fit in) too since a few if those parallels and autos are worth the chase.
I’ll probably do a segment on 1st Edition later in the series. I’m trying to keep it as basic as possible. I’ll definitely get there in the future. Appreciate the input!
Thanks for the series, pretty evident how much you enjoy the hobby! I've learned a lot in the last 6 months, safe to say I'm hooked.
Make sure you create a budget😎
@@Letstalkwax Yep, I'm in the hoarding stage right now. Enjoying ripping packs and buying singles of Braves players for PC. Hoping that I can see a return on some of the good prospect cards that I'm not willing to let go of just yet.
I have another player like that. Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz first Bowman Chrome was in 2021. He didn’t get an auto until 2023 Bowman and even then it is paper only sticker autos. I also have a small collection of Damiano Palmegiani who is auto only. It’s kinda nuts.
The paper sticker autos are retail only. It can get pretty complicated sometimes, lol. It’s like the wild west with some guys.
Excellent info!
Great video Kyle !
Thanks Craig
thank you
Hope this helped!
Great vid as always. Been prospecting for about 5 years. The only big prospect win I have so far is Julio. You mentioned you have been doing this for over 10 years. Can you share some of your biggest prospect wins you have had?
Biggest Win: Nolan Arenado (2010 BC)
Biggest Loss: Justin Williams (2013 Draft)
I'm just now getting into sports cards, and bought a Harry Ford Invicta because I'm a Mariners fan (and it was an impulse buy). Probably a bad investment but it'll be fun to see what happens in a few years. I'm probably going to be a collector first, and any profits will be a fun bonus. But I'm kinda interested in trying this more but doing my research first XD. Thanks for the series.
Great video love these 101 tutorials. Hope you do one on where you get your stats and how you use that data. Been wanting to do my own data dump and analysis. Just not to sure where to get the data.
Data 🤓
I use Fangraphs, Baseball Reference, and Baseball Savant - all for different things. Those are my go to sites for data.
Love how you used Anthony Volpe got a true red 2/5 non of him if you'd like to see it. Went with him over JD. Smart idk yet guess we'll see. Great stuff as always
Enjoyed the video. Great content! What are your thoughts on the mega box image variations and mega box autographs? Volpe from your example has the mega box image variation that doesn't carry the 1st designation but is still from the same 2020 bowman set. Still valuable? The mega box autographs also don't have the 1st designation even if from same set as the first (Wander Franco in 2019 bowman as an example).
Very helpful video. Keep these up because baseball is confusing.
Thanks for the video! How much less desirable is 1st paper than chrome. I have an Espino 1st red that I’m fond of 😂
There is some value in low numbered paper but it is shadowed by Chrome. Paper also grades rather harsh compared to chrome. Any card #’d that low has value though.
@@Letstalkwax thanks. It’s a PSA 9. Hoping he rebounds big this season
Is it generally a good idea to send the hot prospect pulls you get out for grading? (unless it is an obvious lower grade, like I have an Elijah Green Refractor, but has some pretty ugly print lines down the right side).
Thanks bro great details! Any chance you could go over all the colored parallel refractors at some point?
With all of the different parallels Bowman has now it might be a 5 hour video, lol! Thanks for watching.
Some of the sport card stores and card shows are over charging on paper prospects, that don't have the ''1st'' on the card. I find it misleading, and not being transparent, it's easy to get taken advantage of...and yes I'm talking from personal experience. Won't get fooled again...🤣
Glad I saved you some dough😎
@@Letstalkwax 😆
This is where it’s weird a RC is in the same yr but a first bowman is the first bowman brand the card came out.
Nice vid did you also distinguish mojo autos too
Not yet - probably something I’ll touch on further into the series.
To find 1st Bowman of a player .I use comc !! Type in the name ,then select list by oldest . It will show u what came 1st . Like I said Topps doesn't always get it right!!
I’ve never used COMC - I’ll have to check it out!
@@Letstalkwax since I got sick ,it's really the only way I can stay in the hobby right now.. .comc flipping and a blaster box or two .😁😁
@@BigRichfrank sorry to hear that - nothing like a quick blaster fix😎
If I wanted to buy a box and open it myself of Jordan Walker, what do I have to buy? Or Elly de la Cruz? Thanks
Jordan Walker is in 2020 Draft. His base autos are SSP’d and also redemptions that have expired. You can still pull Chrome 1st’s and Color autos though. Elly is in 2022 Bowman.
If you only wanted to concentrate on one Bowman product per year - What would you pick?
Draft - even though the last two releases (2021, 2022) have been less exciting that others.
What are your thoughts on 1st paper gold? I know it’s paper but are the gold sought after?
I don’t like paper because it’s a really tough grade. It’s not as sought after as Chrome but it’d be like playing the penny slots vs. the $1 slots at the casino, lol.
Should you go for bowman 1st only, or does a bowman 1st + Auto have more value in the long term. Assuming they blow up
The Autos will always be more valuable but you could buy #’d non auto - 1st’s if you are on a budget!
How do you see Riley Greene who's a better buy him or Crow Armstrong im looking to buy a 1/1 ?
I don’t really make “picks” per say - I just try provide information to help you make your own decisions in the hobby. I like them both - and there is a lot of upside for each of them.
I have a Bowman Chrome 2005 Jay-Z superfractor but it doesn’t have the “1st” symbol. Did they start adding the symbol after 2005 or? I know there’s no other Bowman Chrome cards of Jay-Z other then that one print so I figure it’s a 1st. What do you think?
Sorry I commented before getting to the point where you discuss this lol
What boxes from baseball are best to buy no matter the price 2022 or 2023 if any 2023 out ?
2023 hasn’t released. Buying singles is the most effective way to maximize ROI. Ripping wax is pretty risky but it is a heck of a lot of fun, lol.
@@Letstalkwax yeah sure is now I know the meaning of singles vs wax single is a just one card and wax ripping are packs am I correct ?
I’m super new to cards. So all of the paper cards, almost regardless of who it is, they are not worth anything?
If you have an ELITE level player in bulk it could fetch a little coin. Non-1st paper I give away.
Is Anthony Volpe’s Bowman 1st autograph in Bowman Draft, Bowman Baseball, Bowman Chrome? And which year (2022 or 2021)? Thank you.
2020 Bowman
@@Letstalkwax sorry for my dumb question but Bowman what? Which one?
It seems each Bowman product had a suffix name
Also, do you ever take fan mail questions? My boys (ages 7 and 8) watch your videos and they always spark fun questions.
2020 Bowman. It’s a white box with Bichette Jr and Lux on the cover.
Do you know why dalton rushing has no color autographs
Either Topps idea of an SP or a huge QC blunder.
What about some of the 1st bowman cards that didn’t have the 1st bowman logo on it. Happened to a bunch of players in 2020 especially. Baryon Lora comes to mind. Also Francisco Alvarez is similar. Alvarez has 2 cards in 2020 bowman chrome. The auto and the base. Base doesn’t have the logo on it.
Situations like that are significant outliers and a result of Topps QC
@@Letstalkwax yeah. I think majority of ppl don’t realize Francisco Alvarez 1st bowman base Bc it’s missing the logo... making it very undervalued.
A lot of times Topps doesn't even get it right!! Jajajaja
Don’t even get me started😆😆
You guys do realize these are not rookie cards, they are pre-rookie cards
No respect for Rafel Devers at all, has only one rookie card no auto.
