Taylor is always way fine. I still miss Megan. I remember laughing at the fuel polishing guy at the Seattle Boat Show, calling it a scam for rich folks. Looks like you got some dirty fuel. Hopefully you have aluminum or stainless tanks. They wont cause rust in the fuel or bacteria. Diesel does the exact same thing as Jet A for Bacteria. You will get water in the humid environment so If you dont have one, get a Racor water fuel separator and plenty of filters. I have had good luck with Power Service fuel additive for constant cleaning of the tank. As the diesel tank is cleaned a black tar looking substance will collect on the filters reducing engine performance. Then change the filter. But you can sail. We did on Lake Union in Seattle a whole summer while we were rebuilding our engine.
Hey Bobby....just a suggestion from a career trucker. Use Howe's diesel treatment. It's a great fuel conditioner, it prevents algae formation and it picks up condensation out of the tanks so it can be passed thru the fuel system and burned thru the engine. Been using it for years and it's great stuff

Well that was a very Interesting look at steel tanks often called 'Black iron tanks' . Very common in Asia boats of that era. I expect that was the first time they had ever been cleaned!

Seeing how you have multiple tanks, that sit around unused a LOT, maybe a small day tank should be added, only 2-4 gallons ( or whatever you use for 1 hour run time avg cruise speed ) and a filtering/recirculating system to help with keeping the big tanks cleaner. Did you get any pictures of the tanks after cleaning ? Please post them if you can, I am going to miss Taylor a lot, as are many of her fans here..

I wish I had so hot company when I worked identifying trees in the nearby Luquillo Experimental Forest some odd decades ago,,, but then again, I'm sure I would have used all my time dippin' in the pools every night to cool off in order to see the greenery the next foggy morning (though I remember I encountered one forest maid under one of the tree falls :) Just saying ....

Timothy a They are steel or so called black iron tanks. Best if you keep tanks full and use fuel up often , hard to do on a sailboat.
