Hope you enjoy the Dark Side! I also moved from sailing to motor boating and honestly, once you’ve experienced the luxury and convenience a motor vessel offers, there’s no going back. Occasionally we charter a sail cruiser for a change and enjoy the actual sailing, but the small cabins and basic beds and facilities are no comparison to those on my boat, also American made, a Searay 455.

My sister and brother in-law made the switch from sailing for 25+ years to a "stink pot" 36 ft Bruckmann powerboat. They are retired and got tired of the physical demands of sailing thier 34 ft Sabre. They like the ability of hitting the twin diesels and pointing to the destination on the chart without worrying about the direction and speed of the wind. Good luck with this new boat Bobby!!

You clearly are intelligent and experienced and it sure is nice to see you share this lifestyle with the public. In my days we simply did not have CZcams available to share this info. Instead we attended yacht clubs and listened to people tell us about their experiences. Now we can just visit fellow sailors online. Yikes! Thanks!

Bobby, Good luck with the new boat. I can really relate, I suffered a stroke in 2010 that forced me into retirement. I was always a sailor and found it to difficult for me after the stroke. So I bought a trawler. To tell you the truth, I really have enjoyed the more relaxed pace and I was able to concentrate on my fishing which I have always loved. At 8 knots I burn just shy of 1 and a half gallons per hour so with 400 gallons useable onboard I can go a bit over 1500 miles before refueling. As long as you're not in a hurry it's terrific!! Hope you enjoy and I'm looking forward to your new adventures!!

Can't wait to see and hear your take on that boat. I will learn a bunch, I'm sure. There are many of us who have come to an age where sailing is a PITA if not impossible due to mobility issues. This boat won't give you a lot of rest, but it should be much more manageable. Stablizers, gobs of fuel, good navionics, watermaker, two large generators...should be a good blue water cruiser!

You have certainly learnt the ropes and whereabouts very quickly. A really lovely looking boat which could easily convert you from sail to power. I always had sailboats and then went to live in London. Decided to buy a live-aboard rather than a house.......never looked back. It was a 65 ft Offshore Barracuda (an American Twin V12 petrol boat). Man did it guzzle gas. Totally different fraternity in the Marinas though and in the U.K. there is not mixing between sail and power. I am now a nearly 80 has been, so I bought an offshore powerboat to try and keep me young. Never seems to attract the birds like you though. Guess 80 is past it..... so I’ll sadly have to revert to looking at them and watching your channel and fantasising. Good luck with the boat Bobby

Great name for the boat. My friends had one of these in Florida and I've gotta say, when we went out for cruises with them it was a whole other level of comfort. Cant wait to see your upcoming adventures.

Great your Bobby, it's good to mix it up. I might have missed your specifically saying you purchased it but obviously you did with all you've put into it already. Awesome space in it, should be very comfortable.

That's a great looking boat, Bobby! I'm still so sad we couldn't be there cruising with you right now .... but work starts soon. We'll save it for a few months down the road when we're knee deep in fiberglass and need a tropical vacation. 😉

just a few days ago, I commented on Calico Skies video of them doing some fiberglass work... I used to cut fiberglass cloth for Keewaydin Canoes (many yrs ago), we both commented on the itching.... So when I read your comment, I had to say.... don't you mean, knee deep in fiberglass and itching for a tropical vacation...lol

Looks identical to the '97 Viking 60' motor yacht. I worked on one for a summer and this one looks just like it inside and out aside from the motors being Mans which pushed the boat really well. They have a similar story with the rear addition. Was a Sweet ride to to the Bahamas

I think it's great! Brings back memories from when my dad had a yacht. 34' Hatteras and then he had a 46' Bertram Sport fish but traded out for a motor yacht after . I lost him in 2000 to Alzheimers. Best of luck and Congrats 👍 .
By the way, I'd love to be a crewmember if you ever need an extra hand!

I've heard that Detroit Diesel fuel consumption is basically 1 gallon per hour per cylinder? Nice boat. Hard to argue with that level of comfort. You can always ship it on a freighter when you want to change the scenery. Yes there is fuel cost. But sailboat rigging, sails, etc, also costs money to maintain. And sailboats also have engines on top of that.
