  • I had to think quickly when my planned car review for this week had to be postponed. So as I have just bought a new DSLR camera I thought I needed to have a play and get to grips with it. So even though it's a bit cliche, here is my '5 Things I Love About My Mini' video.
    Back to normal next week with maybe the best car yet on Petrol Ped. Stay tuned !

    I just got this car 2 days ago. Cooper s roadster not the jcw. But still awesome. The fun factor is crazy hey. Guys at work with wrx's and all those "manly" cars just don't get the fun you can have in a street legal go kart like this. Thanks for the vids. I think you demonstrate how awesome this car is really well.

    I agree with all you say about the roadster Peter (although mine is just a Cooper S), I've had mine since late April and now done about 1,000 miles in it and I can honestly say it always puts a big smile on my face especially when I use the "Sport" button and hear that lovely popping and crackling from the exhaust it never gets old, unlike me!!!! Great video and love the new camera and looking forward to seeing you(and anyone else who subscribes to your channel with a Mini) at MT takes Goodwood. ROLL ON A WEEK TODAY!!!!

    Great video as always Ped, nice camera work & I'm sure the new DSLR is going to give you many hours of enjoyment. I don't know how you managed to get it down to five, I have a JCW Coupe in silver white/chilli red & it's the best of all seven MINIS I've owned including my daily driver F56 'S'.
    Really enjoy your channel but not been having much luck health wise lately hence lack of comments. Fingers crossed that's going to change now.

    We had a Cooper S Roadster from new. Loved it, huge fun. It was hard to live with at times as build quality and refinement weren't the best, but it was a hoot.
    We found the depreciation to be terrible sadly and I nearly lost my license in it as I was done for speeding when I made use of the power to overtake and came across a camera van on the other side of the thing I was overtaking.
    Fun car though.

    I have a Mini Coupe S. I kind of regret not holding out for a roadster. Though I really love the coupe. I have a stop light rivalry with the Boxster because my Mini Dealer also had a Porsche (and BMW) outlet so I often see Boxsters in the vicinity and the Coupe and the Boxster are so similar in layout.
    I also absolutely love how rare the car is, I maybe see another coupe or roadster once every 2 months. And the driving experience just darting around town is superb. I am little sad they won't be making more so I can't buy another under warranty in 5 years. oh well.

      same here.. i have a 2013 Cooper S Coupe but i had mine custom built from the UK factory and got a fixed spoiler on it which i think really completes the look. but yes, love how rare it is and just the conversations you get with other people at gas stations, stops. i have yet to find a person not like the look of it. add in some custom exhaust and she sounds AMAZING!!!! i got a the ALTA 3" JCW Downpipe exhaust system put on and she is a beast..
      i doubt i'll ever sell my bonnie, she's too much fun. if anything i may add a countryman to the mix. ;)

    I don't know about the coupé, but in my Mini Cooper S Cabrio (2011) the Traction control button works this way : (From the Owner's Manual)
    - Push once and the DSC will go on "traction" mode, which means you get MORE traction. It's a good idea to use it when it rains a lot or when you are driving on snowb so your wheels don't slip on the road. The "traction" word will be writted on your head display to remind you the mode is activated.
    - If you push the button for 3-4 seconds, it will totally disable DSC (as you said in the video), the dashboard will indicate it (as it showed in your video). And fun can begin! :)
    You should definitly check your manual too to see what the button really does! Because I think it is this way actually. (The same modus-operandi applies for the Jaguar of my step-father!)

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  Před 7 lety

      Pushing it once just backs the traction control off a little. It will still kick in when you apply too much power for the conditions, it is not a Traction mode. The car will still interfere, especially at pull away or on the exit of corners, reducing power to prevent wheel spin. Turning DSC completely off leaves this to the driver. I do understand how the modes of my car work but thank you for taking the time to comment.

    Fun car! I have had my R59 for 5 years and there is not much else I would trade it for. May be a Boxster. Sometimes the guy with the Boxster at work will park next to me. May be he wants a R59 :)

    I have an R56 JCW and the DSC is either on or off in my car, no half way that I know of. The sport button is a must and I always turn it on before taking off. If I forget I think that there is something wrong with my car. It goes so slow with it off.

    Peter, what is your opinion of the evolution of the Mini since it came out in the early 2000's to today? Do you like the newer, bigger MINI's, with all the variations, compared to the early days of the BMW MINI when it was more of a tribute to the iconic Sir Alec Issigonis Mini's.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  Před 6 lety

      I think today's Mini is a great car, but maybe a little too grown up. My favourite (no surprise) is the R56 generation, Ruby is an R59. The F56 is a very good car but for me it's just starting to lose some Mini character. I'm still not sure about the Countryman ;-)

  • @rebeccacharles3221
    @rebeccacharles3221 Před 7 lety +1

    Hi Petrol Ped. Your reviews on the mini roadster have been a terrific help but I need your advice. I live in Jersey, Channel Islands and drive an Audi TT Roadster 2010 which I love. However, I have had my eye on a mini roadster as there are not many on the island and a local dealer has found and imported for me from BMW auctions a 2014 Cooper Works ivory automatic diesel 2 litre with 10,000 miles on the clock. It's immaculate with white leather seats etc. I cannot seem to find any reviews on this spec. Also the automatic letters (P, N, D, R) are on the left hand side of the gear stick and not in the right which makes it hard to see. Does this seem odd to you and would you think this is a good car to go for. Dealer has offered me a straight swap for my Audi. I can't make up my mind what to do. Help!

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Rebecca. I've had 2 TTs as well as my Mini and am a fan of both. Lots of questions so let me try and cover a few of them off, prefaced with the fact these are just my thoughts and not advice :-)
      The Roadster is a cracking car with lots of character. If anything I think it is a little more practical than the TT. The boot is bigger. Cooper Works Spec should be nice. The Combo of Diesel and Auto would not be for me but it will still have good performance and economy. The perfect car for Jersey I would think, however the ride is quite stiff which is one of the things I love. I wouldn't worry about the Auto markers being on the left of the stick. After a while you won't even look at them when you change gear.
      The best thing to do is drive the car. They are much less common than a TT. I got far more comments and looks in my Roadster. I really love it and I am sure you will too !
      Hope that helps ;-)
