- My Mini R59 JCW Roadster was always quick, but thanks to a Performance Pack 2 with a Stage 2 map from Lohen it is now ballistic. With 270BHP and 395Nm you sure have to hold on tight and when you hit that Sport Button the result is astonishing !

Hi Pete, loving Ruby roadster. I would constantly drive in sports mode the pops and bangs let you know you're alive. I'm 55 this year and own a 2006 Cooper S R 53 with lots of Lohen goodies fitted and lots more to come. Simply great fun to drive, feel like the teenager I was. Huge 👍 for Lohen, the best out there for Mini tuning. Love the vids 🏁😁

wow wow wowwww... I see Ruby again I always thought that you smile always better in ruby than you are in other supercars, it's like connection, you feel her when you are with her, you smile deep in your heart even others can not see, this is you, the original you, the symbol of you, if you only can have one car rest of your life I would imagine that you take her to the end, no hard feeling it's just my honest expression, drive safe as always:)

Variable pops and crackles is a good option, perhaps a tad too many for me, but as you highlight, there is an off mode when the mood requires it. Looks like a lot of fun! I had anti lag via switch on my 98 Impreza STI, it was soooo loud with the titanium exhaust and just wrong on so many levels but I bloody loved it lol Can’t wait to see more mods on RR!

Really enjoyed a man of a certain age enjoy the pops and bangs like I do. Although in New York these BMW guys are taking the pops and bangs to an epic level where they sound like gunshot instead of a performance vehicle. Currently I have a stage 2 flash. Unfortunately I need a new turbo and my clubman is in the shop getting that installed. I also have a new intake, M7 hot and cold intake hoses, K&N intake, scorpion hi flow down pipe. My Milltek exhaust should be here by the end of the week. New Enkei wheels, Koni KYB (red) FSD shocks. Can't wait to put my car back on the dyno!! BTW i also a man of a certain age enjoying tuning my Clubby!!!

Must be fantastic to drive, although I think the duck shoot would grate on me after 2 days.
I would fit some auxiliary gauges for water temp and oil pressure. The lack of a temp gauge annoys me in my R56. I have 2 Stack gauges to fit. These are top UK made quality and the 52mm gauge fit perfectly into the fresh air vents with a cunning modification.

Awesome JCW Ped and 'Party' mode is absolutely cracking 'call the cavalry' 🤣🤣🤣 We never really grow up... Love it 😎🤓 The power and noise is phenomenal and the shape of the Roadster with the roof down definitely takes some beating! One of the best 'B Road' hunters... Awesome 👌
Lohen did the same mod recently to my R55 clubman, what a transformation from what I thought was a mild shopping car into something highly entertaining.
Turns it into a mega little car 👍

Nice. I would imagine it does feel significantly quicker with a third more torque. I have the pops and crackles on in my i30N when going for a country road blast but don't bother for the rest of the time. I heard one in Tesco car park the other day, popping away at 10mph and it sounded bloody stupid.
Careful with suspension mods. If you go too stiff (!) then with the nature of our roads it'll have a negative effect on your fast road aspirations, as well as your back.
I'm liking this mods series, keep it up.

I don't mind a few pops and crackles, but it seems excessive. They come about effortlessly, rather than rewarding the driver for working the car to achieve those exhaust noises.
At the end of the day, if the "transformation" makes you have a grin on your face, it doesn't really matter what anyone says.
They only happen in Sport Mode 👍

Sounds fantastic ! I just got a new 2019 Cooper S and I am so sad they have taken away the pops and bangs from the exhaust :( Im waiting in hope that they release a new JCW Pro Kit for the new model to bump the BHP and add the sounds back the exhaust

When I had a Tiger kit car a year or so ago the thrill of not only getting pops right next to you but occasionally seeing the flame out of the corner of your eye esp if dusk was ...well lets say childish .but great. How much energy did you use up making that vid!!! Brill.
My Caterham was a flame thrower too...I loved it ! The car gives you energy the second you sit in it 👍

They are still on really good shape. I believe you can get the replaced under warranty by Mini depending on the cars age ?

I’m seriously tempted after seeing that! Although currently my Coupe (the only Kite Blue JCW coupe sold in the UK apparently) will be away getting some TLC to restore the paintwork to its former glory.
What were the insurance impacts on the Performance Pack 2? I’ve had the AEM induction kit fitted to mine and that carried a £40 premium increase for me.
For me it was an extra £40 a year 👍

Watching your videos has made me want a mini even more now, and also thanks to you i'm going for the 2013 jcw coupe, for 2 reasons, 1, I want the n18 engine and the better jcw components for modding and 2, the coupe jcw is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than the hatch jcw of the same year and mileage...i mean like 40-50% cheaper!!! thats insane, i guess it's just Down to people prefer the hatch. Which is fine by me gimme my cheap Little rocket!!
That is great to hear ! The Coupe and Roadster are an acquired taste for sure but they are also brilliant little things. I prefer the sloped from windscreen and the Coupe is fun with it 'baseball cap on backwards' styling. Enjoy...I know you will 👍
The only thing that worries me is i'm concerned i'll buy a Cooper s with the jcw kit rather than an actual jcw with the bigger turbo different compression ratio etc.
Any thoughts about keeping Ruby and doing the mods? Not sure you will be able to chop it in for full value now anyway. I have to say that the crackle map it for a 4 pot is awesome. The noise just gets addictive and you start to do it down the High Street for the fun of the reaction....
I would love to keep hold of her. If I did sell her I would do so as a modified car. She is quite well know in Mini circles so hopefully someone would be interested in buying her 👍

It'll be interesting to know what the fuel economy is going to be like? I know people who've had "tweaks" to their cars and they virtually all say, they get better fuel economy.
Also be interesting to know what the 0-60 time is. And did you do any "in-gear" testing on the "old" Ruby to compare to the new one? The 30-50, 50-70 and 30-70 tests.

Fuel economy on the motorway is about the same but when you push on she is more thirsty.I have a 0-60 on video pre mod so can do a comparison 👍

First thing to say is the answer to this question will depend on the driver (age, no claims etc) and the insurer. Some insurers will no allow any mods. For me my insurance increased by £40 per year !

What are the pops and bangs? Is it trying to keep the turbo spinning? Is there a performance advantage or is it just theatre?
It is created by excess fuel being delivered and then igniting in the exhaust. It is purely for theatre 😜

What’s the reason for so many different maps? Wasn’t an option just to have the map engaged when sport mode is on?
It gives options for slightly different driving characteristics and no that wasn't an option.

I have a JCW 2011 coupe (not convertable) I totally love it most fun car I've ever owned, I am having stage 1 ...this Thursday. will take my 211bhp to around 231bhp same as yours I reckon. Then I'm going for stage 2. Did you not need a pro exhaust for your stage 2? It's sounds awesome. I've had a res-delete mine roars and gurgles
I nearly went Stage 1, but the Performance Pack 2 I had fitted was really good value. It included a sports cat and then just the standard JCW cat back exhaust. You might find you have a few more ponies under the bonnet than you think 😜
That's good to hear, I thought I would have to have a pro exhaust fitted for stage 2. I'm so excited for Thursday, mine is same colours as yours black and red. I've had the red stripes carried on down to both front and back bumpers. And I've had mine de-chromed all over. Mods are so addictive lol. Thank you for responding to me
